Airport security and armor/buckets
TD2802 replied to Thanos's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Why not transport/ship them via third party courier to the final destination then? Some guys at TORP did just that to avoid security hassles. Possible drawback is the cost but if you've invested time and labor into something, it may be worth it. A lot of hotels too are more than willing to accept parcels on behalf of their guests. -
Wow, wish my son had the same reaction but he wants to go Jedi because of the light sabers (what does he know? he's only 5!)

Good work overall Jim. Wonder how many elites in GT now? -
I saw this on another board; its cute but seemed coached.

Will this interfere with Elite status?
TD2802 replied to Peregrinus's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Your plan is intriguing but does beg progress evaluation through pics to compare it against helmets completed with a more 'minimalist' approach as a control. -
My home made MG-34 & lewis gun
TD2802 replied to TK-2126_MD's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
The lewis seems to be coming along nicely too. I always had a soft spot for the scratchbuilts. -
I'll be in Tokyo first couple weeks of March visiting family. For all your Star Wars needs, nothing beats Akihabara, or Akiba as the locals call it. That's where i'll be.

Rom with someone else's legion i.d.

Yes, it is.

As an older member, I'm past caring what the peanut gallery has to say. Telling them about the good works we do usually shuts them up but other than that you might suggest they tell it to MySpace for a more sympathetic audience.

At first my wife was puzzled why I would want to pay big money to dress in plastic but eventually realized that there are far worse vices I could adopt. We've been married nearly 20 years so I also belong to the 40+ crowd where enough time has passed for her to become familiar with my various pastimes. However with the kids' college tuition, a mortgage and retirement planning taking priority I am limited as to the number of costumes I may have. She rarely comes out to my troops but is heartened by the our efforts in charitable events. Overall I think she's just happy to see the geek she married finally getting out, making new friends and socializing a bit more.

Store in Bothell is called: Helping Hands Thrift Store 19213 Bothell Everett Hwy Bothell, WA 98012 (425) 481-6682 If you ever go TD, I got some of my scratch parts for my pack there too. Sorry 4261 for the hijack. Back OT.

If you're not picky about used sportsgear, try some of the local consignment shops where you can pick up a used batters helmet. Most are youth sized and super cheap. You could then just remove the liner and trim it to your own specs after cleaning. I know there's one store near Thrasher's Corner in Bothell that always seems to carry a few (once I come up with the name, I'll post it) You may also try Value Village. Its better than paying full price for something you only need a part of imo.

HOWTO: Make your own ABS repair paste
TD2802 replied to TI-3844's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
That's a repair tip worth remembering. One for the books as they say; definitely something to try on my next ABS mishap. -
See these all the time too. This one isn't all that creative either. I'm more amazed at the number of people that still fall for these.

In my TE2, I've got a couple CPU fans, RomFx, mic and batteries (10!) so everything's self-contained. Never had any problems with neck fatigue wearing it in the 2+ years I've had it tricked out this way. That includes strenuous events like the TORP.

Kudos on your lawn - makes my plot of moss here in WA look even more pathetic. The subprime lending fiasco has indeed made this a buyer's market - that is if the buyer has the dough to do it (last week's fed rate cut make look good to borrowers but also hints of a possible recession?) I once thought about moving to the San Jose/Bay area but most of my friends there warned me not to because of the inflated cost of living. Ironically they've moved up here for a more affordable lifestyle.

If the high-end toy companies who are officially licensed to manufacture and sell figures of the sandies are any indication, then the color ranks for the sergeant and corporal are close to what was speculated here earlier. Koto (and maybe Medicom) designate the black pauldron as a corporal while the white is a sergeant or NCO. However that may be more for marketing purposes and certainly not likely to resolve anything.

And quality-wise, a well done FISD elite or MEPD deployed is better than anything used onscreen.
-
I wouldn't characterize it as silly not to avail oneself to more accurate sets of armor out there for uniformity's sake. Seems a more likely reason many don't is simply a matter of economics according to recent FISD polling as well as size issues. Chefhawk, keep up the good work!

New name for Deployement
TD2802 replied to Scott M.'s topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Well I thought 'cohort' was a good idea in the earlier thread in keeping with the legion aspect and Lucas's derivative use of Roman or fascist tones in the storyline. However I think people are more familiar with its contemporary usage (ie. sidekick, partner in crime, etc..) instead of the original meaning: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cohort_%28military_unit%29 Incidentally, the US Army in the 80's had a program to increase unit cohesion called Cohesion, Operational Readiness and Training with COHORT as an acronym (I know, all the letters don't match but that's military speak). So as examples: ANH Cohort ESB Cohort ROTJ Cohort My other suggestion would be 'Bone-white Janissaries of Death' -

Nice work Paul! How'd you get the lines on the cheek traps? Decals, paint?
