Was there a other mould?
john danter replied to Turrican's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Just read this again GINO maybe referring to the thermoset properties of HDPE over ABS HDPE has more 'memory' when vac formed so will try and get back to the flat state as it cools That's not why that oval is there though. That's an intentional detail. It's too symmetrical and on too many lid to be a freak of thermoforming plastic. It may have been added to help the plastic key in the tear mould....? -

30" inside leg with TE derived armour
john danter replied to john danter's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Ah ok, clever You've used spare ABs strips to create and put the lipped look back onto your thigh Cheers Noel. Do you you show how you alter your thighs? Or is it just the lip you've cut away? -
30" inside leg with TE derived armour
john danter replied to john danter's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Cheers lads. Keep em coming. I've done the notch but still think my thigh is slightly too short..? I've already glued them front and back, so making them shorter now will be really tricky. -
Anyone here have any tips to make sure you can walk successfully in TE style armour with a 30" inside leg? Any tips with pics on how you've sold this and still been able to walk ok Thanks in advance John

Anyone manage to make a removeable scope rail?
john danter replied to SamJ's topic in General Weapons Discussion
Steves suggestion leaves little markings on the sterling The scope rail is held in between the tension of being bent into the last vent hole (file little grooves in the rail bend so it bites into the vent hole) and being stuck into the rear flip sight I did it to mine also -
So are we going to have a guidline of what close up shots will need to be taken? So if we decide on a glued sniper plate etc, then we need a close up of the sniper plate, right? Free floating shoulder straps, so we need a shot of that. Stud assembly joining left side of torso, close up of that. Single right side popper, close up of that. I'm only asking as I never went for EIB, but I may when this new one is finished and also try and go for this Centurion look too It's just at the moment I don't know how to submit an application for EIB even.

the 3 states of a stormtrooper armor
john danter replied to budspencer1971's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
You just need liquid latex masking fluid dude I use masquepen, not sure if it's in the states though. Spray the kakhi undercoat, apply the masquepen where you want it. Spray all over with white primer Spray all over with final white spray Rub the latex off to reveal the green underneath. Simples There is a thread of someone on here doing just this. This is me chipping my E11 Add silver underneath, add fluid. spray black let dry and rub off fuild to expose silver -
Bluey's TM 1.5mm ESB TK Build[*TM]
john danter replied to FIVE's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Yeah forget the shims. For the sake of trying to make it look better by having no black there, I think it can look bad if not done correctly. If it's a huge huge gap, which yours isn't, then maybe add a shim. But I think it looks great as is PS: Give your mirror a quick once over lol I always get had with toothpaste splatters when I use mine -
R2 KT in the cartoon series a great handshake back to Albin and our work. If you didn't know, R2 Kt was a pink R2D2 that was made to keep Katie, Albin's daughter happy by her bedside etc when she was ill. Now she's passed on sadly. Lucas must have been moved by that as R2 KT is made immortal in the series and there's even a toy released by Hasbro http://www.r2kt.com/clonewars.html Also the 501st are Vader's guards. They storm the Jedi temple and in books etc that's how they're now refered too

the 3 states of a stormtrooper armor
john danter replied to budspencer1971's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
It depends what you want to do with it?? Troop or leave on a shelf for display? Troop: Out of the factory: All be it the odd scuff here and there actually add to the suits worn in look. Shelf: Do what you want. Although I think to base your TKs look exactly like it appeared at day 17 of a 80 day shoot is a bit like trying to replicate a famous F1 racing car, all the way down it's tyre's depth at lap 17 of an 80 lap race. Personally I prefer the out of the showroom look -
Centurion Requirements : ANH Stunt Discussion
john danter replied to Daetrin's topic in FISD Centurion Program
Bingo Matt If you want to be that accurate you'd have to morph your body shape.... People don't do that, they assume we'll make a compromise. So those people who try and set that bar so high, should in all honesty, do the same -

I think this should be in terms of what you see in an average and clearly intended sense...? You can't base this on a one example of what you may see for a split second on screen. That means I can have no shoulder bell, an open calf, a bicep with no sealing strip etc....Common sense it be based on an average of what most of the TKs have. As for body specific costume appearance..... Overlapping biceps is clearly not going to work, as is people with larger body frames. I didn's see any 14 stone 6'2" TK walking about but we clear them. Does this mean the larger among us won't be going for this award then? It's NOT seen on screen I'm short so my biceps do hide inside my bell. But what we can do, regardless of our body size is replication of what you see on the outisde. So those pretty flower rivets down the sides etc, fine. Doesn't have to be the wire brackets etc on the inside as no one ever sees that. I realise this may not be aimed at 501st guys but that's not the point. There will be members here who will want both. A troopable 501st clearable costume and a prop replication.......on an average sense (i.e NOT Mr No Stripes) As for chipped helmets... Na They were NOT intended to be like that. Does many promotional material exist showing these banged up TKS? Not much. Most is pristine TKS If you track the film from 1st shot scenes to final 8 months later shot scenes, you see the flakes slowly start to appear. they're not there from day 1 of filming. And hen Lucas wanted close up of TKS (Han and Luke) he asked for pristine ABS versions to be made... Obvious why in my eyes As for all the rivets etc, yes. Great idea -

Also..... Hmm...? I've done my torso now and am in 2 minds to cut the lower chest lip off or not. I'm short yes, but my torso is quite long for my body I have 2 chest/back pieces TM from ages ago and the BFA one with the whole suit Here's a pic of this as it fits me Should I cut the lip off or not? Or cut the BFA and leave the TM as it is? -
Luke's ANH armour fitting
john danter replied to john danter's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
This is my interpreation of the accurate rivets etc on the side of the suits Inside it's made like this chicago screw through hole Elastic and washer placed over screw shank Closed with the scrw slot head Popper side is done like this - instead of using the normal popper back plate parts, just use the pretty pattern Jersey back plate This way it looks accurate the outside world (if ever noticed ) but I can pull the torso apart with the poppers. -
