zv288bot's AP ANH stunt build! Whoop Whoop!
ComradeDave replied to zv288bot's topic in ANH Build Threads
Looking good Jorge for sure, all looks good! -
I haven't tried anything just yet Kris, but I will be trimming the return edges down to around 8mm or 1/8th inch like Tony (Ukswrath) suggested I'll pot pictures when I get to it brother. I also found that the hammer and anvil snap too I got from Tandy is a real pain so I went out and bought snap pliers. we'll see how it works!
-
for strength probably double snaps Jorge. I have enough of them. but I like the nylon I think if you sand the inside of the armour where you're sticking em, that flexibility and permeability of the fabric will hold better
-
well i tried all of the tutorials with snap plates. I think I like the nylon one the best. easy peasy, the abs strips are ok especially when you heat the snap up with a soldering iron and really set it into the plastic. I need to get a set of snap pliers though its loud as hell banging in the basement on the anvil and snap bit tandy gave me. I also started lining my helmet with some industrial velcro for my padding. All in all the snap experiment took way longer than I hoped and this is all I got finished tonight.

Ab/kidney Plate Reshape help
ComradeDave replied to ComradeDave's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Yeah Marcus, I need to really trim the returns like Tony suggested that may help me later with the flex. Thanks for the input Terry. I already made a big blunder with my heat gun lol I want to try and stay away from that option :L -

Ab/kidney Plate Reshape help
ComradeDave replied to ComradeDave's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
YOu're right Tony, I know I just want to bring the sides in a little bit and push the front and back out a tiny bit. will the belt help this? -
Did anyone else notice the problem with the oval shape when the kidney and ab plate fit together? it flares past my chest plate and looks silly. check out my other thread I started and let me know if you tried anything to resolve it. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/36997-abkidney-plate-reshape-help/#entry489561

Ab/kidney Plate Reshape help
ComradeDave replied to ComradeDave's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
My question is how to make the fit of the 2 pieces of armour more circular rather than oval basically. Would a covered iron work or something? -
Ab/kidney Plate Reshape help
ComradeDave replied to ComradeDave's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Thanks guys. that might work. for comfort. However I still want to fix the oval shape it looks off with the chest plate. the ab and kidney flare out sideways past the sides of the chest. I don't like the way it looks. -
zv288bot's AP ANH stunt build! Whoop Whoop!
ComradeDave replied to zv288bot's topic in ANH Build Threads
No Worries Jorge lol. You should see some of my armour, it looks like I was in a sword fight! keep up the good work brother! -
Hi all, Ok so I've scoured the forums to get insight on how to modify the armour. I found a lot of advice on bending armour to the wearer's body, however I have not been able to find in depth help on the part of the costume I am looking to reshape. When I fitted the Ab and kidney plates they fit but they are digging into my back and sternum the way the oval of the clam shape is. I was wondering if there is a guide or a good explanation of the method to make the oval more circular and bring the sides in a bit forcing the back and front out more like the attachment Here are some pictures of my set up

Good Stuff Jorge! We're here to cheer you on. Lots of pictures alright? Even when you aren't stuck! -

Ok. So I managed to make some more progress without cutting off any appendages or shedding more blood... For my thigh armour, first I followed the AP trim lines nicely but noticed at the back of the outer thighs theres a little tab that sticks out. It's at the back of the thigh so its not for the ammo pack (even though there is a bit of a dimple that looks like it's for a screw or something). Do I cut these off? Here you can see my bum thumb too lol. Now here's the rest. And here's what I did on Sunday before I cut my thumb off. Ab Buttons Shoulder Straps

Sorry spice. Ok I used a number 3 welding shield and cut out the lenses from it. I got it from a local welding supply vendor called Praxair. But acklands grainger or McMaster Carr should have the same thing I got 3 sets of lenses from it. As for the putter I used plumbing epoxy putty. It's a 2 part putty kneaded it well stuck the nuts with the screws in them after measuring where I wanted my drill holes to go on the lenses and let it harden. It gets super solid after about 10 minutes. As for your gaps use a heat gun on the lenses out of the helmet heat them up and press around the helmet eye holes. It forms the lens to the shape of the hole. Sent from my SGH-I317M using Tapatalk

TK-56072 Requesting ESB EIB Status [NE][558]
ComradeDave replied to RoninTK72's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Great Job Omar and NorCali team! Watching with delight as I build my ESB trooper. Feel free to peruse my thread if you spot anything I need to work on along the way! -
Aight, I'm gonna Michael Jackson it and wear the no cut on my left hand lol
-
Aaron I found that just giving them a gentle bend by hand made nice curves, These are those flexible straps that Mark was talking about. Also I glued them and my buttons on last night before destroying my thumb, They look pretty good. Little concerned about the symmetry of the straps though, It might be my stupid perfectionism again but they seem just ever so slightly different depending on the angle you're looking at them...

In all fairness I've only screwed up 3 pieces of armour, and sliced my left thumb twice. Most of my cuts are fine in ABS plastic. That's got to be low on the screw up scale.
