The only thing that I would recommend is cutting the backs with a crescent shape rather then square. The center is the main pinch point correct?

I put my pauldron on after the pack. Straps should be under that. Not sure how it could get affected. Pictures would help see what the problem is.

Hey Kara, one of the members of NEG had one and she's about your height. So if she can do it so can you. If it was me I'd do the pre-order and while I was waiting I'd go with the original TK and build that while I was waiting. With the original you'll gain experience cutting and sizing and you'll be trooping by the time your TFA ships. We always could use more TK's!
