General Help - Buying Pre-Made Armor
TK bondservnt replied to Proto1001's topic in General Weapons Discussion
it does take art talent to make a tk. it's not easy. none of this is just "cut away the rough plastic and keep the smooth" that's just making it sound simple, which we all know... it's not! -
I keep the chin strap snapped together and just pop my lid on with my thumb holding the chin strap outside the front bottom face of the lid. then I slip the lid on and use my thumb to position the strap. sometimes I have to reach in, but not always. see the chin strap is elastic so it does not need to be unstrapped.

the mohawk gave it away! I used to work with earache records, so digby had a little to do with my music taste. your music list is like a playlist for me.

the lens is curved on measure L nottingham>? any chance you listened to the peel sessions back in the day? any grindcore music in your collection? I added my measurements from my metal socket eagle hengstler with a metric rule.

Chookaboom's ESB Mods to ANH Stunt kit
TK bondservnt replied to Clamps's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
you can always put sticky back velcro on your shoulder strap backs and remove the little white elastic then when converting back to anh, simply reverse the procedure. this is what I do with my dual EIB anh and esb versions. and I remove my canvas belt with the anh holster and replace it with a belt with no holes. novus will handle your bucket situation. it's really easy to mod the shoulder straps back and forth. fuzzy on the armor and hook on the backplate. then it removes really easy, and novus cleans it up good for the anh change back. -

novus 2 works wonders. novus 3 is white, and it colors faded armor. novus 1 is just cleaner/polish 2 and 3 are actually chemical and silicon grit rubbing compounds. they remove layers of plastic like wetsanding. when using novus: apply liberal wet coating and massage with finger in place until the mixture begins to dry. let dry. polish with a novus brand polishing cloth and buff until you get results. repeat. -
my simple goal here is to give karin the advice she needs for the best product possible. I think her hand guards are very nice looking and very well made. it just would be a little nicer to have a material in the neck seal that is really much stronger than just simple latex rubber. and since a neckseal gets a lot of use in a trooping situation I think that the neck can have a lot more pressure put on it for larger troopers such as myself. I suppose I should cut a larger neck opening in my builds to accomodate my neck better. having a nylon webbing embedded, or a seal coat of a stronger tear rating rubber. or having an under suit type of wickable material for the inside. I love the way karin keeps an eye for detail, and her work ethic always shows. (( on a side note, my hand plates tear because my forearms are short, and my arms are short so there's a lot of downwards pressure placed on my gloves over time. I'm sure that people with longer arms like mathias don't have the same problem? my handguards usually tear at the wrist, but I've had them split down the middle of the index finger knuckle too )) I also think it's a good idea to mix in the paint into the rubber before it's poured into the mold. acrylic craft paints mix into latex really well and it solves the color situation from the inside out. TX troopers might also like black latex handplates as well as one of these nice looking neckseals that we all know are going to be the best they can be! keep up the good work here karin!

HOWTO: Make your own ABS repair paste
TK bondservnt replied to TI-3844's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
you have to cut it up and make sure you don't have any sandpaper grit in the mix -
a bandana would make the neck larger. and who says it was a bandana? I'd figure that it would have a cotton liner, thin and wickable. for a person with a large neck (me) I'd need it to be lined, and the latex will need to be very very strong, since my helmet rubs up against my cloth neckseals. even karin's handplate latex tears. I've had 2 pairs tear chunks, or even ripp in half.

the hammered texture should only be applied to the barrel of the blaster. the grips near the trigger are gloss black plastic on the originals.

Shoulder strap spacing
TK bondservnt replied to gmrhodes13's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
screen accurate was almost always the same 5 small ribs, and the front large tab. the rear tabs are removed. -
the photo is the best scale I have. I have old wires that are thicker than modern ones I guess. you're a good judge of scale... try some different widths.
-
dont take the pins out. that ruins the accuracy. the wires you used on your other build are WAY too thick. think 9volt connection wires in green and red. 4 loops around a pencil for each wire. you don't have to solder them, just put a dab of e 6000 on em and paint the dab silver. and the wires don't just run from pin to power cell. they follow a path like this: inside pin on counter 4 loops folds over the inner cell but does not connect, connects to outer cell at rear. outside pin on counter 4 loops folds over front and connects to rear outer cell. it's in series, not paralell

keep in mind the scope is brass, the gun is steel gunmetal grey not silver. the grips are gloss plastic. the grips "T Tracks" on the barrel shroud are black plastic. the gun itself should not be gloss at all. only the grips. no silver on the above mentioned parts. keep it all to a minimum, as the guns in star wars are lightly weathered. you can also use latex rubber as a mask for fine lines and weathered areas.

the brackets can tear the armor, while snaps might not be so destructive in certain situations.
