TK Ear Caps ~ "Dont give into the hate"
TK bondservnt replied to PeteK's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
follow the pencil lines, and ignore the forming lines... you really have to look close at the shapes. the rear of the cap (top part ) of each ear needs to have extra material, as well the curved parts that go over the cheek tubes need to have lot's of extra material to have no gap. the pencil lines, and the final ON helmet photos above show clearly the profiles needed to trim ATA ears. -
TK Ear Caps ~ "Dont give into the hate"
TK bondservnt replied to PeteK's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I use a belt sander. but you should cut off only a little at a time. start with really large cuts and slowly get a feel for how much to trim. use your eye and the old messed up ears as a training guide! it's also best to put the screws though the helmet to hold it in place when you're test fitting ears. draw a pencil line about 1/4" from where you think your final cut will be and slowly work down the ear until it follows the contour. the key is to take off small amounts until you get it the way you want it. you need to look at a lot of ATA helmet photos in threads in the EIB and centurions that wear ATA this will be your best guide! and finally fitted. LOOK close... all these photos show how to leave excess material in all the right places to keep the ears flush zoom in, and copy the shapes exactly. keep special attention to the rear of the ears and don't just sand them flat at the top of the cap. every line on the ears is a curved complex line that when held under pressure aligns with the helmet. don't follow the mould lines exactly or you'll get screen accurate "gaps" -
so that would make the strap 4 plus 1.5 plus 3/4" or 6 and 1/4 total strap length with added for mounting to holster and belt. yeah I noticed that troopers handling luke, and the troops running away for the droids all have their ab's mounted over the chest plate. it really looks like it. I'm digging out my copy of ROTJ in blue ray to check on this now! if you look closely at the sides in the droid forest photo you can see that the chest plate is indeed below on all 3 troopers. luke surrenders I see ab over chest in these photos? also a lack of ab button paint on the main panel on both. shows rubber gloves not sewn on. droids surrender front trooper. clearly shows ab over chest. also when you look at the film, the holstered trooper running after, in different screen poses you could go longer than 4" I'd venture to guess 5.5 inch gap for this forest trooper and 4.5 for the elevator troopers. also note how high the belt line is on the kidney/butt... way above the anh standard. all 3 troopers running after the droids have the same strapping situation with the ab over the chest. when you watch it in slow motion, it's really clear! the two troopers who enter the elevator with the commander after luke surrenders have the same length straps, it's just their legs that are different sizes, from my view in frame by frame advance. fun stuff to consider. from my viewpoint this clearly shows that the ab is over the chest in these shots. just one of those things you catch when you look for it! I used frame by frame advance, pause and my digital camera to do these shots on my ps3 with led tv in closeup mode with no flash.

yep, it's just thigh rotation. not a problem really nice job!
-
so the range would be 4.5 - 5.5 inches in gap from belt to holster? with 1.5 inches extra at the top, and 3/4" at the bottom to account for mounting? adding up the distances: short 4.5+1.5=3/4 equals 6 3/4" total strap short long 5.5+1.5=3/4 equals 7 3/4" total strap long does that sound more in line with the correct measures?

great example of a good post there phil! I totally agree that paul can help to interpret this screencap, and mathias clearly shows that there are different lengths. some short and some long. star wars is filled with small differences. my point is that the CRL should reflect statements about the longer strap and show the correct photo. imho needs to be updated. the trooper photo looks great! just the holster photo needs changing my my thought. my only point is that we might show a measurement as the CRL did in the past? as always I'm sure that paul can direct us to a series of numbers for the CRL! when I make a holster for ROTJ I shoot for a 6.5 inch gap from the belt line to the holster top so it really depends upon the belt line and the holster top. is this a correct measure paul? can this image suggest a distance from belt to top of holster at 6.5 inches? does anyone see that the ab plate is strapped over the top of the chest plate in this screencap, and in others?
-
nice! is that a hero neckseal?
-
we have the film screen caps, the past CRL, and paul tm. the measures were established before by other members of the FISD, and we also have 'scale' to consider for troopers who are taller or shorter. any past staff member should be able to provide the correct photo and measures. I'd suggest a variable to allow short or long straps, in a set of numbers. and I'd suggest a photo of the correct holster for the CRL. just a series of observations and suggestions from me... I'm sure someone with more expertise can make a stronger suggestion. I'm in the process of making an ROTJ holster, so I could provide photos with different length strapping to show the variable nature of the lengths?
-
the topic exists here because the trooper does not see the correct information in the CRL. done deal. argument? what argument.
-
you know mathias... that comment is just not called for. the holster shown above is not even correct for an ROTJ. it has tan showing on the strapping, and the straps are not long enough. whining? where does this come from...? I'm certainly not being rude to you?!!!!! the main reason the trooper in this thread asked the question in the first place is BECAUSE THE CRL does not have the correct information in it.
-
this is un-important? we have an ANH stunt holster pictured in the base CRL for the ROTJ trooper, and we don't show the correct strap variables? how is this possible? we change a photo, and some text. how is this "a lot of work" more a lack of work.
-
sounds good! we should specify the base short and long distances, put them in the CRL and change the photo of the holster in the ROTJ CRL to specify a ROTJ strap design!
-
the split rivets are only used in some sections not all locations! only the left side of the torso has 6 split rivets! also one in the cod and 2 on the thigh! the rest can be poppers!
-
actually the CRL is supposed to be the deployment standards not just suggestions? like the law book we all go by for deployment? if it's just a suggestion then why do we deny deployment when it's not met?
-
I have no claim i'm asking questions and going by how the CRL used to be brother! so we could say 4.5- 6.5 inches?
-
moot? ROTJ holster strap length? what is the cannon distance? 6.5 inches WAS in the CRL before! what is the deployed length? 4" what is the EIB and centurion standard? since holsters are required we have to re-establish this all over again?

Creating the Original Stormtrooper Armor
TK bondservnt replied to TrooperJesse's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
AA did dot make the original design and appears to be a recaster of TE. this post is for karin! you're right of course mlady! -
ROTJ never had loops? the CRL photo does not have loops? you're the DO? wow? there has never been a question of loop in ROTJ? just distance and length of strap the CRL was changed cause someone just pasted the ANH stunt holster text in there only esb has loops! the photo can be taken for certain!
-
this photo from the film looks pretty close
-
in those photos tim I noticed one thing! one of the things I notice is that all the ROTJ troopers appear to have their AB plate strapped OVER the top of the chest plate! if you look close... you can see it! makes me want to look at ROTJ closely again!
-
the CRL used to specify 6.5 inch gap in the ROTJ. is this correct? from belt to top of holster... sure, scale is important! just like putting the holster on the belt, that also depends upon the waist size of the person. what would be the actual distance for a strap in the ROTJ format... do you have those numbers paul?

Creating the Original Stormtrooper Armor
TK bondservnt replied to TrooperJesse's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
everyone loves to hate AA. I don't mind his other works, the helmets he did create for the series are out there, and it's clear, the TIe pilot, the deathstar gunner, the rebel helmets. all AA's designs. he didn't sculpt the original stormtrooper design, and we know that, he's just sculpting his own forming tool from the basic design that liz and brian originated. there's also some evidence that AA lost the original armor parts forming tools in a shop fire. so he says he recreated the sculpts from the "skins" that he had. many believe that AA re-cast the armor sculpts from TE armor. when you look at the detail comparisons in photos between the original LFL sculpts and the AA form, it's pretty clear that there are missing details from the sculpts that AA uses to form armor. the abdomen plate, the shins, details in the button plate, knee plate and the shape of the shins, thigh tops and other subtle details don't directly compare to the original LFL details. the videos AA made were also part of the original court cases, it's really a great read to see the details of this amazing drama between LFL and AA. about the video: since a forming tool is needed to be made out of metalized resin coumpounds he's showing how he created and defined the original sculpt from it's original form, into his own forming tool, and thus he did sculpt the tool, but not the design! since AA didn't cast the sculpt from the original, he had to create the tool. -
patchet sterling clip end details/ measures
TK bondservnt replied to TK bondservnt's topic in ANH BlasTech E11
post saved to compare doopy do's clip end, for making a model to cover it. -
A Distance from stud to clip end 1cm hole is 6mm diameter B 2 cm. (outer measure total is 2.7cm which tapers to the outer measure on F ) C 3 cm D 1.2 cm E 3 cm F 2.5 cm (this shows that the clip end tapers according to the magazine well, which also tapers, thus ensuring the mag is located correctly) next photo series will show the front edge, which is rolled over and also has a slope, as well as a front lip. and other photo will show the rear edge which also rolls over, and has no lip

sadly in the stormtrooper world, my own projects take a back seat to the troopers I'm helping currently. far too much work to do on other people's armor, blasters and holsters to keep me busy to finish this build even before 2013 hits. all that's left for me to do on this build, and it's a lot! assemble and complete milling on steel tube, clean up template and prep for braizing. find a machinist/gunsmith to help with the prep and braizing of parts to the tube. assemble the blastercore, with wires, led's rumble motor and power packs. assemble charging station install hall switches, and test boards paint, assemble and photograph. lot's of work, time and money left to go!
