  1. Good one on the painting! I forgot about those times when I would have one ear perfect, then flip the helmet to do the other one and completely smudge up what I just finished!
  2. Might help a lot of new builds out there to see what we all have done- everyone can learn from these and avoid the same silly mistakes we all have made! Everyone is human and can and have to laugh at ourselves sometimes. The adrenaline rush and the excitement to get started and tear into the build can sure lead to a few mistakes. Some costly, some not, but all are usually fixable! On this forum I have seen upside down ab buttons, scopes reversed, thighs turned sideways, etc. I made a bunch- Tube stripes backwards on one side of helmet Rushed into trying to put on helmet stickers on tears and traps without using the soap and water method; horrible job resulting in a re-order/re-do Did not see to cut posterior shin shims wider until after I cut and ran out of material! Punching holes for snaps too close together which you then cannot snap into; Incorrect rivets used on first try of ammo pack Used the gloss black first on E-11 resulting in a total sand job Took some initial pics with hand guards on wrong hands Used too much glue on latex hand guards and ruined rubber gloves with spillover. Had to cut off and re-do Sure there are others I have tried to bury away that I am forgetting. Anyone have any good ones to add? Oh my tube stripes-
  3. I found those same binocs/compass! Worked perfect for the front lens. Glad they did give us two, I got superglue all over the first one! I was lucky and had an old scope that one of the len's was a perfect match for the back.
  4. Looks fantastic- Awesome build!
  5. Yep, thighs and shins looking great!
  6. You could get some of this stuff-http://www.jbweld.com/product/j-b-plasticweld-putty/ It's a putty that hardens just for plastic, you can sand it to make it smooth but if you take your time putting it on it can start off pretty smooth. Then paint and you are all set. The vocoder would be very easy with this stuff, the ear ranks would take a little more time but very doable as you are painting both anyway.
  7. Gotcha; I saw an old post where someone was looking for a vocoder from an Fx helmet- I see why now!
  8. Great pics- looking good!
  9. You are getting after it- looking good!
  10. That's an interesting one. Something to play around with for the kiddos and it's always nice to practice on something before the real deal! If you were out anymore than 50 I would say ship her back; parts may take some digging to find.
  11. Point taken- learning more everyday!
  12. Ouch! OK lesson learned on the belts- sorry guys! It seems in most of the pics of submissions I look at the belt is low on the bottom of the kidney. I think most of us here and some TK's in the movie were doing it wrong! Are these not movie ref pics found right here as well?
  13. Congrats- looks great! All I see is the back of the belt needs to be pulled down a bit to the bottom of the kidney; It looks like your thighs are twisting a bit outwards on you too. Not sure if the external snap on the upper rt kidney is for EIB or Cent. Love the TK labeling and the matt for the pics!
  14. LOL- yep a lot! 1- yes you can make your own, I must admit I have never seen it though. 4-E6000!!!!! 5- Paint all the way, white fabric and white leather paint. Or buy white boots 6-yes tutorials here on the belts 7. I dont see why a pair of long johns underneath your undersuit would hurt anything. Hide a candy bar in your TD. Good luck!
  15. I'm petrified of cutting! Best to confirm w the experts first, they will chime in.
  16. Awesome job- great looking build! Just a couple of things I saw; is the neckseal riding too high up your neck? In the close up, you cannot see the ridges, really only the cloth underneath. Could be wrong though and it's just the lighting. Also the chest piece could maybe be trimmed a bit, where it curves around and is pointing towards the back. It looks pretty close to the back piece where there should be a bigger gap. Congrats!!
  17. Get the 2oz size, but get at least 5 of them. Easier to work with and you will have a few do overs of coverstrips most likely. Easy to leave the caps off of em too! Cheapest thing of the whole build!
  18. Great job- looks fantastic! Congrats.
  19. Heck yea! Looks awesome- congrats!
