  1. I love it! If you get a build/run going I will take one for sure. Great idea.
  2. Thanks guys- great suggestions for sure. I like both of them, may need both the elastic and velcro! Walking upstairs was pretty hairy to say the least! Definitely going need to trim a bit of the bottom thighs. Still hurts.
  3. Thanks Andrew; good call, I thought they looked super funny. That sure will be a tight fit, I see why a lot of folks use either the velcro or snap running from the shoes!
  4. Did a fuller dry run! Nearing the end with the fine tuning still to come of fixing some bites and making it a bit easier to walk. I made the arm straps between the biceps and forearms shorter but looks like I need to go some more. The trick to run elastic from the but sides to the ab worked like a charm!! After taking the TD off I noticed it scratched the back all up! Hope this normal; hidden by the belt I guess. Please hit with me with any critiques! Still have the ab buttons and shoulder strap covers to glue down.
  5. Looking good on the shim! Really try to match the bend of the kidney by bending and shaping it before gluing, made a big difference for me in getting the seam to smooth out.
  6. Thanks a lot everyone- great advice! I shortened up the forearm straps this morning and added the snaps across the butt to abdomen to keep this tighter. Waiting on the glue now so I will try a dry run again in the morning; Germain, Alex and Eric, really appreciate it!
  7. Great job! Belt came out fantastic. I think I may have put my belt snaps a little to close to the rise in the ab plate, one snapped apart a couple of times. Yours look much better.
  8. Thanks a lot guys! The little secret I must share which will save you a lot of mental anguish, is to dust the seam with some spray paint lightly. I probably could have done this after the first round and gotten close to the same result, but it does make the difference if your seam is smooth after the ab paste sanding and not still a physical gap for the paint dusting to help hide it if still showing in spots. It took trying out the third can on some scrap of different brands of white gloss before I found a match, but it sure helped finish it off. Just do not get in a hurry, lots of coats, a couple of dustings at a time, a couple of times of day, and the seam got lighter and lighter. You can then polish around the outside edges of the areas where the paint and natural plastic meet to blend it in, but it matches so well you hardly have to do this at all. Good luck everyone! This is the brand that matches AP-
  9. Lot's of progress! Finished up the arms and suspension- Got the legs done (small crack in the sniper plate while clamping!! Will have to be a later fix)- Finally the kidney plates/shims are done enough to get to snapping and strapping! Felt so good to put everything on for a sneak peek! I've got problems though- the butt! Any ideas how to fix this? I have hardly no butt in real life, but in TK land it's really bad. See the flaring? Do I cut this or try to bend it in more? It seems the belt is riding too high to keep it in place?
  10. Not 100% when you get up close to it, but I had to get on with the suspension so I am going with this right now. Pretty happy with it, just frustrating that it seems the more I sanded the more I then started to see the seam again! It's finding that happy medium where you are OK with the contour of the paste vs wanting to get it sanded back completely down. Added the rivets- no gap!!!
  11. Belt looks great! I know what you mean about the sniper plate. After wrestling with it and then gluing it up, I walked around in the leg armor. It pointed too far inwards and it was poking me. So off with the plate for re-gluing. It actually went on better the second time, I think the clamps and glue helped bend it a bit into the shape I need, but just make sure it does not point too far in towards your knee. My shims are coming along; I will be out of town for a few days so my project will be on hold, but you will be able to get them done and can hide the seam for sure.
  12. Started with the 220; now time to move to the finer stuff. A couple of divets need attention to, but the gap is slowly vanishing. I have been slowed down a bit by work so only get a few minutes here and there to scrub on this baby.
  13. Good deal! I have not even looked at the belt yet! I did curl it and the ammo pack in a circle and am holding them together with clamps; hoping they will retain some of the bend when I am ready to start on those. I bet with the belt the costume is really coming together!
  14. OK, so live and learn; definitely not a quick process, but I think I am getting the hang of it. Dont use medium grit; it simply removes the paste you put on and you are back where you started. After I sanded down on round 2, I could see the seam peeking through again. So I added another coat of paste, a little wider to allow me to sand with fine grit only, starting on the outer edges of the paste to allow the seam to be the thickest part of the paste after I am through. Very tiring and tedious. So I started with what looked like this for round 3- And after 30 minutes or so of sanding got down to this- So making some progress; a lot of sanding with finer grits of sandpaper still to do, but I have to go to work, so off to the hardware store tonight to get super fine grit. I'm using 220 now but will get some whatever is between that and 1000. Then comes the polishing, but I think there will be a successful end to this part of the project by the weekend! I know of course it does not look good now, but again, still much work to do to get it smoothed out and polished up. Will post more pics as it moves along.
  15. I added my first velcro yesterday to one shin, but I did not glue it down, just used the industrial velcro and stuck it on. Did it not hold long?
  16. Small paintbrush. Really pressed hard into the seam the second time, that may have been why it still showed in spots after the first attempt, as I just kind of brushed it on lightly. That should be perfect for time between application and sanding. Good luck! Hopefully you will nail it one the first attempt. I got the Novus kit online from the spa store- got here in 2 days on regular shipping!
  17. It is an AP kit; I went with 2 inches on each side. I could have squeezed in one inch but I figured if you are having to hide the seam anyway go ahead and be comfortable. I waited overnight to begin the sanding the first time. This second round I let the paste sit up overnight and it actually came out a lot better. I put more shards in a shot glass, barely covered them w the acetone and then covered the shot glass with foil. When I woke up I stirred it and it was ready to be applied, which I did w a small brush. I used med grit to sand first to just knock down the rough stuff, as I taped off the clean edges so they did not get scratched too badly. Then used the fine grit (220) then the novus 3 and 2. It is no picnic for sure! Think I may bust out the power tools this time around for the sanding and buffing.
  18. Got a lot done this weekend! Went ahead and used the stickers that came in and hand painted the stripes on the tears and traps; so the helmet is all set! Padding is in and chin strap is attached. I trimmed the neck a bit underneath. Glued the kidney shims on and cut the notch; still working on hiding the seam that shows, but it is completely smooth. Started on the suspension as I only have a couple of cover stips left for the thighs. Made some Han clips and began making all of my snap connections. Should have a dry run fitting this week without tape!
  19. Needed to extend the kidney plate a bit to meet up with the ab plate. I had been saving my shavings as I went along in preparation. Glued my inner shims first than matched up as best a I could the outer shims. Added my acetone to the shards after taping up the seam. After the mix started to get like syrup (about 15 minutes of stirring) I poured it on the crack. I let it set up overnight before sanding and polishing. After the cleaning up a little, with a long way to go still (and cutting my kidney notch), the seam is completely smooth, but in some areas along the seam I can still see it! I hate to repeat this process. Any ideas? I was thinking about running a thin line of paint (trying to match as best I can) along the lines I can still see, then really polishing it down to blend in. If done again, I know I can paste it thicker and wider on the seam and then sand down, but I was hoping to not to see the paste like I would if I went that route. Appreciate any tips!
  20. Great info above- in addition, get your rivets, elastic (black and white), nylon strapping, TD clips, work on E-11, get upgraded lens for bucket, bucket pads n straps, voice amp, and then get more magnets and clamps! About 3 tubes of E-6000. Also some small white knit elastic for shoulder straps. About 5 packs of snaps and whatever you want to back them on. Will also need paint for helmet and ab buttons, S trim for bucket ,ind. velcro for shins. Dont forget Novus 3 pk for cleaning and scratches! Good luck and have fun! Hit me up if you need I have learned so much already, many times from my own mistakes!
