Shouldn't really be an issue the difference in grey from helmet to ab buttons, I doubt your GML (garrison membership liaison) would even notice. I would remove all the darker grey from your buttons and paint with the lighter, use thin coats as Humbrol does not like going on thick and can/will wrinckle.

Normally Humbrol paints are used but you can use others if not available, some use Testors or even acrylic paint and apply a clear over the top as acrylic paint dries matt. Color references

I wouldn't worry about your kidney until you test fit everything, you may find it's not noticeable from the outside. You can loose the upwards ridge on the butt plate, will sit better with the kidney. Gallery sections are a great reference if you get stuck

Exciting times, I remember that feeling of first kit up. A couple of areas I added some foam padding to help centralize, the inner top sides of the shins and the lower outer sides of the thighs, if you look at your front image your thighs are angled inwards towards the base and the shins top are also angled inwards, the additional foam helped to keep them in alignment, something you may want to play with. Also knee armor is a pain to get sitting right, if you check your image they both appear too far to the outer side and also angled downwards towards the middle. Just a case of playing with gaps and positions.
