If they don't close because his calves are too big, replacements would have the same problem, no?

From what can be seen in the eBay pics, it would appear the ears are plain grey. So yeah, probably.

Question regarding Cent level ROTJ TK Shoulders
Darth Hilarious replied to kaa1304's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
The padding may be handy to stop shoulder bells from rotating. As Mark says, all you should need is enough to make the shoulder bells look 'padded'. Hey, it was 1983, it was the style of the time... -
NICE!

His suit was used, no idea if he was in it. BTW, droid's name was TC-14, if I recall correctly.

I'm confused, is this an official eFx thing or are PCR painting them themselves and selling them on? Licensing, how does it work?

General question: LED on suits?
Darth Hilarious replied to shoptoylife's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
It's probably the same thing, the TFU Trooper they're referring to is the TFU Shadow/Stealth TK. And you only see those guys when they uncloak. -
Maybe it's just ESB troopers who think sitting down is no big deal...

Modifying a recast for approval?
Darth Hilarious replied to DizzyStormtrooper's topic in The Foundry - Armor and Prop Making
I made the mistake of buying a bad recast suit before discovering the FISD and doing my research, and I found the level of effort it took just to get it approvable quite frustraing. If you've got lots of time, why not get a really good suit and make it super-accurate and go for Centurion? I only wish it could have been that easy for me... -
Icomm + aker volume
Darth Hilarious replied to kaa1304's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
I have my amp to the left too, I tend to find the whole chestplate starts working as a speaker once you've got some volume happening. If you want to completely avoid feedback: When you're checking your volume, try to have your head in that problem position. Turn it up until feedback, back it off until no feedback. You now will have no feedback, just use that LOUD voice to mix nicely with your iComm effects. You might find that it can even go lower and be satisfactory. Or, turn it up just a little bit more, and be careful. That's probably what I'd do. Also watch out for confined spaces like elevators/lifts, tight corners and echo-ey hallways/tunnels. All of these things make for more feedback. -
sports wear as under armour?
Darth Hilarious replied to Trooper328's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
But I'm in Australia, we have heat, I swear! But seriously, I find that once it's soaked, it starts cooling you down beautifully. I think it's called 'evaporative cooling'. But it's pretty gross. I also move around as much as I can (even justadjusting from side to side) to encourage airflow. Needless to say, you're probably much fresher smelling at the end of the day than me! I still like the O-material, but I'm pretty tempted to try the wetsuit as you suggest- it also worked for Jabob, if I'm not mistaken. I'm very certain that he wore a wetsuit. -

That's what this place is all about, mate. Troopers helping Troopers. -
sports wear as under armour?
Darth Hilarious replied to Trooper328's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I hadn't even thought about price! (hehe, I just assume everyone has more money than me) If you want to go one piece (with a 2-way zipper for bio breaks), there's also stormtrooperundersuit.com (he even does a discount if you're building your costume to go 501st) -

BRILLIANT! LET US KNOW HOW THAT GOES FOR YOU! -
Fantastic intel for those of us on 56k or mobiles!
-
Nope, not at all. Otherwise I would have been required to have chipped, peeling paint on my lid, and gaffer tape holding down my shoulder bridges. (ESB armour was far more beaten-up than ANH, and exemplifies just why we don't aim for 100% accuracy) Remember the slogan: We're costumers, not prop replicators. That said, it's your prerogative to have frown mesh or not- if you don't mind people seeing your face, that's cool. More power to you.

That statement seems somewhat overreaching, unless you'd say the same for AM kits. The oversized O-II, the symmetrical forearms, the sculpt of the pecs, nothing is quite 'so'. Perhaps the requirement to push for would be 'TM or screen-derived kits only'? Cheers! I saddens me to see people disheartened because they think their kit is bad, just because it isn't TM or RS quality straight out of the box. And it goes to show that the old FX holdouts really don't have an excuse anymore!

Armor Cleaning and Polishing
Darth Hilarious replied to The White Knight's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
It is entirely possible to melt your armour using E-6000, if you apply it foolishly. If you want to give the Goop a try, just be sure to read the instructions. If it worked for your buddy, it must not always do Very Bad Things. And let us know how you go, always good to have the low-down on another glue. -
sports wear as under armour?
Darth Hilarious replied to Trooper328's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
There's no Centurion requirements placed on the undersuit, so anything that passes basic should pass EIB or Cent. The stitching around the knees on those Nike pants may or may not be an issue, but that would be at your GML's discretion. The hard and fast rules are as stated in the CRL- Non-textured No visible zippers or logos Hope that helps. Oh, and whatever you do, don't get the blue one! PS- I know a lot of guys who use this sort of undersuit. -

You're the right height to have your pick of any kit. Gah, stone! I can convert pounds to kilograms in my head! If that's girth-y, AM might be the way to go, otherwise, again, any kit you want (and kits can be shimmed anyways) I might have to throw this to someone with better knowledge of UK units, I also am unsure of what £590GBP will buy you (more than $590AUD, I know that much) As for material, I'd recommend ABS. HIPS gives sharper detail, but ABS is Tonka-tough. -
Thanks mate. Well then, get it finished ASAP so we can vote on it! I think the shins.greaves are one of the worst parts on FX, the curved detailing at the top is nothing like the angular business on proper kits. That's why I replaced mine And of course the chest/back mods are a must. Let's not even talk about FX lids. What parts do you find particularly troubling?

Important question: How big are you??? -
Also remember, you can link to photos from anywhere, you don't even need to use Photobucket or similar. My whole scope tutorial was done using pics I posted on Farcebook (just right-click on the pic to get its address and copy/pasta from there). Just don't use your bad mobile phone cam to take your EIB application shots, this will cause Mathias to make fun of you LOL

short TK in need of help
Darth Hilarious replied to Mrstarwarsfan66's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
LOL man Gus is WAY shorter than you (though he's a Sandie) And I swear Merrilea is UNDER 5 foot... She still looks great in TK. PS that AP does fit you sweetly indeed. -
Just another perspective on the heat issue- I'm in sunny Australia (so a bit warmer than you UK guys), I find having the balaclava is great in hot conditions because it wicks sweat away from the face, keeping me drip-free. But YMMV, what works for me may not mork for you... On topic, I use Trooperbay mesh (it's nicer than the gardening shadecloth I used to have in there).
