  1. UPDATE: Now that I am settled in to my new home, I dug this project out so that I can finish it up this weekend. I had quite a bit of trouble sourcing the U-channels, but finally found a set online (details to follow). Although not inexpensive, they are crazy accurate and arrived pre-cut to the correct lengths with the corners rounded. Made of 22 gauge aluminum they are incredibly sturdy. As I mentioned, this will be a display piece but I am sure they would hold up even under rigorous trooping. A quick sand with 220 grit paper to help paint adhesion, a thorough cleaning and 3 coats of paint later they are DONE! Next up: Attaching the folding stock, front D ring, U channels and weathering.

  3. It didnt sit right with me to leave the 3D files the same since Ive learned a lot and made so many changes. I had a few hours free tonight and decided to fix it up. I present the V3 (I think its 3, lost count) Files. Some small tweaks to go but the majority is fixed. Changes include: - New eyes - Modified tears - New Vocoder - Correct Faceplate positioning - More pronounced cheeks - New ears (may need some tweaks) Comparison to V2 on the Left, V3 on right. As always let me know what you think

  10. Hi Troopers! Thank goodness it's the weekend and i can hopefully continue my armour build. I managed to get a stand to aid my build and it really helps me to see the armour elevated to around my height. I'm using my helmet i built during the first lockdown in 2020 it's an RS kit, though i will be constructing a second lid i recieved with my armour. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  11. Bam! Back again for a build update. This time I’m currently working on my bucket build. These photos show the start of the build. Trimming and sanding the skull and face. I cut out the eyes and some of the teeth. Still have more to work on. Will post more this week. Hoping to complete my full kit before Celebration !

  13. Heads down and getting a lot of completion done on Phasma with less than a week to go! I started by getting connections attached to my back abs, following the same method I've seen FOTKs do theirs. We started by velcroing the yolk/chest pieces, as this was important to get a good fit down the sides. I also put a small (barely noticeable) piece of velcro on the abs, so my yolk was sure to stay in place. Then I added snaps to the side of the breastplate and yolk, which will sandwich all together to form a nice tight form. Additional finishing touches completed include the thigh harness, got all the gaps filled and sanded down for final acrylic paint Shaped and added additional length to the spatz. These were not fitting well, so i'm going to cut them down and further shape them today We finished filling all the small joins on the TD and I added a bracket that will slide onto the abs And finished spraying gloss black onto the belt boxes, which will FINALLY be chicago screw attached while we silver the Top part of it

  14. Well, hello there! Welcome to the last part of my helmet build. Lenses, frown cover and padding Supplied with any RS helmet kit, you get a roll of this thin green foil that seems way to flimsy to actually be a part of the helmet. You can simply add this by poking first one hole into it, then fitting it, so it lays flat over the eye-openings and then poke a second hole in there. The foil is held in place via the upper ear screws. Then cut off areas that might hinder you in the future or where you simply don't need the foil, such as over the middle ear screws or at the frown. I tried my best to get the foil to lie flat over the eyes and got it into a position where there's few to no gaps between the plastic and the foil. Still had the same fabric as I used for my ANH Stunt, but only used one layer this time. This is thin, breathable fabric, so whilst it covers the view it does not completely prohibit air flow. I cut said fabric to about twice the size of the frown and then added glue to the areas marked in red. By only gluing those areas, I could glue it into the helmet in a way that allows for a visible teeth gap. Due to the fact that one can now see into the helmet by looking into the frown, I made sure to glue it high enough (higher than marked in the picture!) double-checking the position from below, to ensure that no hint of the inside of the helmet would be visible. Last, but not least, I added the padding. RS supplied chin straps, which go onto the ear screws and close underneath your chin, and star-shaped foam to stay close to screen accurate. In my humble opinion, the chin strap is super uncomfortable and useless if you got good padding (unless you're planning on doing wild stunts) and the star foam makes the helmet sit way too high and doesn't allow me space for my glasses. Tino (T-Jay) gave me some of this thick foam to use instead (thank you!), which goes over the green foil and allows for enough space to still wear glasses whilst trooping. Super useful, and without any padding at the top of the helmet it gives me this good fitting helmet.

  16. OK So here's the hard work that's been happening this last week. Cape! I got the following pattern from the Captain Phasma Builders FB Group. Super helpful, if a little difficult to figure out without a legend. The measurements were originally in mm, I converted to cm and reduced by ~10%, since i'm not 6' tall. I used a white charcoal pencil to map out the placement of my panels - doing this I was able to triple-check my measurements and min-max my panels/fabric. With only slight adjustment, I managed to fit all 4 panels on 4 yards of fabric, in this orientation. I sewed the panels together, keeping a bit of length on them just in case. This is after extensive steaming/ironing. I used my pencil and roughed out my curve, this really helped a lot. The cats also helped a lot. I ironed & pinned the hems, following the CRL to make sure my sides were 1.25-1.5 inches, the bottom hem was double folded and roughly 3/4". I seamed all the pockets/straps (missing one in this pic). Then I sewed them down, doubling up the top stitches. Pinned the pockets down, ensured placement matched references as best I could. Yes, i'm adding a 2nd strap. Painted the long hem using cheap red gloss acrylic paint. I know some people use fabric paint, but I felt the acrylic looks better/more screen accurate. It took two coats. I then used Liquitex clear gloss gesso to give the shiny/waterproof look. This pic was after a first coat using 8oz jar. I should have just gotten the larger jar, I ended up going back and getting a 2nd for full coverage. On the second coating I mixed in some black acrylic paint, so I didn't get the hazy look - it's now full dark. Took the cape to a small build party, and had some garrison guys help pleat and clip some folds in to the neck area. Next i'm going to iron the pleats a bit more, clip my cape a bit more, and start to whip-stitch the pleats together to make sure they stay in place.

  17. Hey, troops I have recently decided that I want to start making my own props, and built a vacuum forming setup (see attached picture). I've taken pictures and videos at each step so that I can put together a nice and detailed video outlining everything I've done, including tools used, measurements, dimensions, and costs. Now that that’s done, I’m looking for a Canadian plastic supplier that sells 0.08, or 0.09 guage HIPS and ABS. There are a few places in Winnipeg (where I am from) that sell these materials, but not in the thickness I want. Does anyone have any recommendations for a Canadian plastics supplier they use for their projects? Actually, what are some US suppliers that people like to use as well? Thanks in advance!
