  2. Thanks CableGuy. I just finished trimming them actually. Total span is 98cm now. Looks way better. Just found out I’m out of white 1” elastic for the drop boxes. Only have black left. Had such momentum going today. Been doing some fine detailing for now, cleaning up a few areas that need it like excess glue, filling in the wrong holes I made with ABS paste and so on. I’ll be adding those pics and posts to the sections of the build they belong in later. Right now I’m trying to decide…coffee or whiskey. Nice look and fit. I hammered the single cap rivets down to attach the ammo boxes to the canvass, cut the white elastic straps for the drop boxes and attached them, and glued the button covers over the rivets. The snaps are on and holding perfectly. The drop boxes are lined up to the edge of the ammo belt. Forgot the flash but you get the idea. These are the specs for the holster location. After measuring and marking I punched the holster hangers with my leather punch. Then I marked the bet for the holes. I punched them out with the leather punch too. Worked fine here. CRL says Chicago screws are accepted so I’m using them, at least for now. Just screw them in and it’s done. Holds the E-11 nicely. That E-11 will be replaced with this one.

  4. I don't think Anovos is too concerned whether the armor is 501st approvable out of the box. Obviously they have another priorities, like sales. And technically they're correct this armor doesn't need paint, it's white and the resin pieces are white. What they're not telling buyers is if they plan on seeking to join the 501st modifications will need to performed. That said not everyone buying one these costumes, or any other costume from any supplier is planning on joining the 501st.

  6. Yes, I use cloth gloves while trooping. The people I know who do use rubber gloves for trooping often wear a thin glove liner (I think they come in silk) to keep your hands from getting too sweaty. And thanks so much for the fixes and updated photos - I'll get working on your review tonight and do my best to get back to you before I leave for Celebration Wednesday morning! Also your burrito comment made me laugh!

  7. Hiya. Here’s a video from Ross of RWA; 1.5mm is a popular choice with many (including me). It’s nice to cut when you’re building your armour and is relatively flexible to wear. 2mm acrylic capped is more shiny/glossy and is less likely to suffer from UV damage. However, to my eye, non-capped is more accurate to the originals. I haven’t seen many armour parties publicly listed on the UKG forum. It might be worth you signing up and introducing yourself, then you’ll see if other troopers are in your area. PM me if you need any help with that. :-)

  8. Good work, Dave. Making solid progress. :-) Something worth looking at is the amount of excess plastic above and below the ammo packs on the belt. As below, you could easily get away with losing a few mm, if you wanted too. :-) Dan

  10. Hilarious! Selling pre-order replacement parts before delivering actual kits. They truly just jumped the shark! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  12. Yeah... I've been on the fringes of the 501st for almost two decades, and I wish I could say it no longer needed repeating: There's no such thing as an approvable-out-of-the-box costume. A piece, maybe. But never the whole thing.

  13. Hello and welcome I've not heard a good comments about 850 armor, only a few not so nice stories. KB does a plastic kit, also Anovos have just started shipping there pre orders kits, who knows how much longer they will be to fulfil. You are better staying with known sellers or it's buyers beware. Have a look through the build sections and I'm sure you'll get a lot of info there, good luck.

  14. Exactly as I've been saying since initial images of the kits had been posted, as long as those wishing 501st approval are informed they do need some work and paint

  15. Nice work on the painting, trim those ears a little and you'll look so much better, but if not you may be ok for basic approval, dependant on your GML (garrison membership liaison)

  16. Good start, James. Whilst it’s a tricky kit to work with, it looks like you’ve made a good start. Something that I believe will hold you up from the higher levels that you’re aiming for, ie EIB and Centurion, is that you’ve sealed the ears to the lid. These should be separate pieces. You could also afford to trim them down quite a bit. Here’s some reference pics with suggested trim lines. This is likely to become a roadblock, possibly even at basic level. Might be worth checking with your GML about that. Paint work looks good. Keep up the good work. :-)
