Meiloorun Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 (edited) A while back i have always wanted to make a stormtrooper costume in a r1tk style but now I have finally come around to it. I have the soft parts and the boots from ImperialBoots I bought like 4 years ago. I plan to model all the armor pieces in blender with references from what I could gather on the internet pulled into PureRef and the Sideshow figure if i could afford it i would buy a 3d scanner and scan it from there. Photogrammetry would be hard with it being so shiny so ima just eyeball it. The only model that's the most accurate as others have found is DesertFareCosplays helmet on Etsy so I'll be using that with some of my own modifications to make it ever so more accurate. I anticipate this will be a several months long process so there's no need to rush it and hopefully then after some hard work i'll have a good costume. Edited March 19 by Meiloorun 3 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 Looking forward to seeing your progress. Meiloorun Posted April 12 Author Report Posted April 12 (edited) Changes I made to the DesertFareCosplay Helmet Smoothed out the chin and beveled most of the edges. brought the protrusions on the side of the vocoder and drooped them down made the filters smaller and angled towards each other. also inset the part behind the the decals/greeblies inwards. Changed the shape of the ear pieces so that it is a circle and added bevels to the sharp edges changed the shape of the back so that the tangent of the curve is more squash shaped than pear shaped From the bottom Edited April 16 by Meiloorun 1 Quote
Meiloorun Posted April 12 Author Report Posted April 12 (edited) Chest plate & Back plate Made in Blender The thing I like and find aesthetically pleasing about the R1TK is the nice bulbous protrusion of the front of the chest plate. Back plate The back greeblies. This is the hardest part of the plate that took me along time to reference since i couldn't find any reference images showing this angle. This is how it looked like according to the sideshow figure. * update * There is a small dimple in the bottom left of the left greeblie I forgot to add. Here it is. I love the attention to detail on the back plate/armor, as so few modelers seem to tackle this to the fullest. Keep up the awesome work, excited to see this get printed in the future. 2 Quote
TheRascalKing[TK] Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 I agree - looking really positive and you definitely have an eye for it. Keep it up, we need more good New Gen armor options! 2 Quote
shovelmaster88[501st] Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 I agree!! I hope to get the R1 Stormy, but there isn't really a good guide yet, and I think this might be the one to follow for my costume! Quote
TKModder421[TK] Posted April 18 Report Posted April 18 @Meiloorun Really spectacular work! I have some questions for you, can you message me? Quote
fernferro[501st] Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 i really like the chest piece! by far the best ive seen in a long time, but with my eyes, i think a little tweaks for the back armor. Youre going in the right direction!! I dont know how to get the models of an game, but i think if you can manage to get the SW outlaws model of the TK it would be great since you are mentioning the sideshow/hottoys. Following and keep it up! 1 Quote

Meiloorun Posted Sunday at 06:33 PM Author Report Posted Sunday at 06:33 PM Helmet Update After careful observations I was able to just see several inaccuracies after the other that I could not just fix with sculpting tools proportional editing tools and boolean modifiers I have just determined it was best to ditch Nico's helmet and just create my own. I need that control of topology at its most privative form so that i am able to control how sharp or smooth an edge is also be able to control the tangent of a curved surface without affecting any straight lines. After all that I have landed on something like this... I am still not done, I still have to add some thickness to it and I'm hoping to make it a little thicker to make it a little more durable just slightly. I really wanted all the organic curves especially on the chin caved in holes where the mics go, it is what I find aesthetically pleasing and its organic/hand sculpted nature is paramount to giving slight asymmetric shape to the chin piece. The biggest thing going into this that I wanted to fix was the cheek, on nico's it was to far inset inward. 1 Quote
