HenryS Posted January 9, 2025 Report Posted January 9, 2025 (edited) Hello guys, My first Stormtrooper armor is currently being built, and everything was going great until I encountered a problem with my feet... I have a pointy "bump" on my insteps — a pretty large one on both feet. It's hereditary and part of the bone structure, so it's not "removable" (see attached pictures). The issue: Due to the lack of lacing on Stormtrooper boots, I haven't found a single Chelsea boot that fits without causing significant pain. Every model I've tried so far (more than 10) literally "grinds" against my bony bumps. 1. Do you think it's possible to make an exception for medical reasons, allowing me to modify the boots for example by making a small cut where the bumps are and sewing a piece of leather over them for extra space? 2. I found a pair that hurts "less," and the shoemaker might be able to widen them without cutting or altering their appereance because they're made of softer calf leather. Would this boot meet the requirements?: https://www.henry-stevens.de/products/marshall-cb2-002-marshall-cb2-schwarz?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=DE | HS | PMax | Brand&utm_id=20846747720&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4fi7BhC5ARIsAEV1YiaMeSl9eeFqGORu_aE4Nd1LVUJyuKW46E_YO8oAjoMFpZhK3s-IuxkaAo3jEALw_wcB Of course, I would color the leather with white leather paint. I'm asking you before taking them to the shoemaker because the boots themselves are not cheap, and the adjustments won't be free either. It would be wasted money if the modified boots aren’t even allowed. Thank you so much in advance! HenryS Edited January 9, 2025 by HenryS Quote
T-Jay[TK] Posted January 9, 2025 Report Posted January 9, 2025 Hello there and welcome to the FISD. Can't find anything wrong with the boots in your link. They look good to me. Should be no problem, even up to level 3, if you plan to go there. Quote

giskard8[Staff] Posted January 9, 2025 Report Posted January 9, 2025 Looks acceptable to me for basic approval. That of course is up to your GML for final approval. Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted January 9, 2025 Report Posted January 9, 2025 Those boots are suitable once coloured/painted to white, but as to your modifications, that will definitely fall on your GML as the approver of all 501st costumes for your garrison. Basic level is more lenient, so I highly suggest you discuss this with them first. If the piece to be added is of the same overall shape as that side of the boot and doesn't look like an addition with extra stitching in different locations, then their decision will be easier. For level 2 and 3, that falls under the Detachments' approval process. Without seeing the finished product to make a judgement and due to the tighter regulations for accuracy, it is very difficult for our Deployment officers to make that call. Quote
dblcross[TK] Posted January 10, 2025 Report Posted January 10, 2025 I wonder if your shins will cover any mod you do to the boot. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted January 10, 2025 Report Posted January 10, 2025 An issue with some boots is the height of the neck/ankle is a little low, you may find you will need to add some elastic or velcro to the front of the boot to the inside of the shin so the shin stays down, they do tend to move up and down when walking. Reference of screen used boot Looks like the one you posted should be ok, one issue I do see (and it's entirely up to your GML) is the lean on the elastic and the bottom seam. Would be entirely up to the @Deployment Officer Team in regards to higher level acceptance, doesn't hurt to ask your GML before you purchase, hopefully the DO's will also be along and comment Quote

Well due to the fact that the shown shoes are the only ones I can wear without pain I really hope the slight lean is not a big deal because it's either the slightly sharper angle or a modification on top of the instep so... And in reality the lean is not as heavy as the lines in the picture. Crazy that due to this medical condition the shoes are the most nerve wrecking thing about the whole armor... 3 Quote
dblcross[TK] Posted January 11, 2025 Report Posted January 11, 2025 Is this on the top of your foot? I was just wondering because I have heel spurs Quote

themaninthesuitcase[Admin] Posted January 11, 2025 Report Posted January 11, 2025 I have issues with Chelsea boots due to my foot shape, which amongst other things include a small (though significantly smaller) bump on the top of my foot. I have to size up a lot to be able to wear them. I am a UK 10.5 but for my TK boots I have a UK 12 (US 13) to be able to wear them. Is this an option at all? It's a bit like walking around in clown shoes but I've gotten used to it as almost no "correct" size shoe fits me. Quote
Chemi[Staff] Posted January 12, 2025 Report Posted January 12, 2025 @HenryS In my country, there is someone who makes custom-made boots... He makes them for Troopers, clones, mudtroopers, officers... If you want, I can give you a link to his page (PM) and you can ask him if he would have a custom solution for you (as well as price, etc...). Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted January 12, 2025 Report Posted January 12, 2025 You can also increase size an area of leather, first dampen the inside, use a dowel or some other item just larger height than the area needing to stretch, force the dowel/tool into place, ;eave to dry, you can also add some heat from the outside which can also soften the leather, then leave for a few days. I did run across this stretcher on Aliexpress which you can add pieces to help stretch specific areas 2 Quote
