Hero helmet on a stunt?

Recommended Posts

Last night I was watching ANH on blu-ray (again). But this time I really used it to get some good screen shots on the large screen. At the start of Chapter 5, a group of TK's are escorting the good princess to Vader. There are two troops in front of her as they walk. The Trooper on her right (left side of the TV screen as they walk towards the camera), appears to be wearing a Hero helmet. The frown is definitely of the Hero variety. They eyes are smaller and cleaner. And it looks as if the ears only have 3 bumps. Am I correct in this? Sorry if it is old news here. I had never heard any comments about this before. Was this done accidentally or on purpose? Just curious.

6 Hero helmets were made for closeup shots, the armor that a tk with a hero helmet is no different than a tk with a stunt helmet except the hand plates.

Not entirely true. Many stunt helmets can be seen wearing "hero" hand guards; "Alternative style hand guards" is a way better term.

Honestly, I don't think they kept track of what was Hero or not.  If that were the case, all the Hero helmets would be in the up close shots and the stunts would be only used in the background shots.  The only "Hero suits" used as intended were Lukes and Hans.  Otherwise, they threw on what was available - mixing up hand guards, belts and helmets.  Heck, I'm sure there are NO suits kept together as one.  They mixed armor components too.

the space trooper actually has 2 of one hand guards,  karin points out the costume mismatch in a thread.

That's why I said 'matching' Handguards mate, two rights which Karin kindly made for my Spacetrooper only recently ;-)

Remember the 501st CRL's are not about exact prop replication, but instead given the inconsistencies of the movies meant to capture the canonical likeness. It's one thing to watch the movies on Blu-ray on your 60" HDTV and freeze frame to see a detail, quite another when you watch the movie on the big screen.
