PROPS to you for allowing me to re-purpose the logo design!!!
Jancelot[TK]
Looks great and congrats! I've enjoyed and benefitted from your progress pics. I'm building mine with Centurion details as well. Al..most...there. Ā Question on the kidney extensions: how did you attach them? I'm currently planning on gluing them with extra ABS on the inside. Clamps[TK]
I used for sale sign material and e6000 and then black Gafe tape. White ducts would work as well this gives it flexibility.
TrooperTim
Congratulations, Clamps? (I want a nickname like that!) Nice work on your build. It's such a sense of accomplishment when it's finally done. Mostly. You'll probably find things to tweek as you wear it for extended periods of time. It's such a sense of accomplishment when it's finally done. Mostly. You'll probably find things to tweek as you wear it for extended periods of time. Thanks Tim, I already have a list of fixes to make this more troop-able and I want to take this to Centurion (need my resin blaster done). It felt so great to get the big step and get into the 501st officially and be recognized with EiB all within 24 hours. Ā I also want to make this a Dual kit for ESB. I have handplates, a second bucket (not built yet) and I will make my resin blaster convertible to ESB. I will be a busy bee in the work shop for a bit longer, that is for sure!. Ā The nickname "Clamps" came from our crew of local folks (Tantive IV Boarding Party) seeing photos of my build and the tons of clamps I had and was using (they were on sale, how could I pass it up). I have always been told (and I tell folks) to own it, so I did. so much so my ID # translated via telephone dialling = clamp. Ā excite to be part of the organization and raise money for the kids!! Clamps[TK]
Ok a few tweaks the last day or so. Ā Mounted my iComm/Aker in the chest plate: Ā Ā Tad bit of E6000 to hold the thigh ammo pack in place: Ā Ā Trying out bicep "Han Hooks" to keep bicep/forearm in place. If this fails I will make a strap to hold to shoulder. Ā Ā Ā Team Clamps approves of this message: Ā
TK bondservnt[501st]
the han hooks mount in the center of your bicep muscle, over the "thumbprint" looks like you're putting them along the seam line? Ā putting them on the sides of the bicep is not the correct location! Ā Ā you can see his hook location is directly above the thumbprint over the bicep muscle and are mounted from the inside. Ā Ā you can see his hook location is directly above the thumbprint over the bicep muscle and are mounted from the inside. yeah I knew Han's hooks were in the middle, but I wanted to mount mine where they would not be seen. Either way, I trooped with it last night and was not happy with it overall, so I plan to connect the bicep to the shoulder bell with a strap to keep the rotation and positioning correct. TK bondservnt[501st]
I like the duct tape hook for really keeping everything in place.
Clamps[TK]
Any other lessons from your first troop? Ā Not really until I see some photos. no real pain points...after Centurion application I will make a few trims, my boots need more breaking in and perhaps less thick insoles. only thing that hurts today are my shoulders Ā I need some practice with my AKER, as every time I turned my head too far right I got feedback. also, my iComm is wicked loud compared to my volume. I also hate having the bucket tethered. I think I will get a head mounted mic (I took off the wire to mount in the bucket). Ā

bigironvault
Could be your volume or your position of Aker in chest is too high. Just a thought. We'll check it out in two weeks.

Ā ok noted, will tweak the areas I intended to up front, they are very minor at this point anyway... though that seems to run contrary to most everything I have been told that the kit is ever evolving tweaks and mods to make better, more accurate or more comfortable. Clamps[TK]
Clamps is back in town and on a mission to get things tweaked out for Centurion submission this weekend. Ā Last three items on the checklist: Ā 1. Finish up Resin Blaster (see resin blaster build thread). 2. Boot scuffs (taken care of on troops 1) 3. Hand Painted (or hand painted style decals) for the bucket. Ā For now, I am going the decal route, so here is step one. Not since Day one has my bucket felt so naked: Ā Ā Ā Here is what is to come tomorrow evening Ā Ā Almost there!!
Clamps[TK]
And here we have them applied. these are a pain in the but thin. I tried ONE decal without using the soapy water install method Mike shows on his site and it was a pain i the but as I could not get some bubbles out. The other 5 I used the soapy water method and they were much easier to get right Ā Ā IF I have done my homework, this should be my last step in Centurion preparation. Time to suit up and see if I am up to standard! Ā
TK bondservnt[501st]
water and dawn dish soap is my way. after making 20 helmets decals are still never easy to apply.

gmrhodes13[Staff]
Looking good Charles, Centurion here you come. Oh I used the soapy water trick too, like you said takes a bit more time to dry but makes it easy to move decal around to the right spot. WESTVIG
Thank You for posting this thread. I am building a AP set myself and I see more magnets used in the build. Do they really help? I used only clamps but any advice would be great. Ā Mark

Magnets are great for the areas that clamps can't get too, along the middle of cover strips, good for first setting up your helmet too, would highly recommend them. I had 20 3/4 rare earth magnets and could have done with more. Best place I found to buy them was ebay. Jancelot[TK]
I've found them indispensable as Glen mentioned. The middle of long cover strips like the thighs and shins are a great example.
