  1. I need to try the padding for the sniper knee lol. Actually, a lot of the upgrades you speak of are stuff I can apply to my own kit. I've been trooping without my glasses which hasn't led to anything awful so far, but I will keep the front padding in mind!
  2. Wow! You got that together pretty quick lol. Missing some metal paint on the handle by where the selector switch is, not that anyone would notice. If you do decide to weather it, be careful around the T tracks and handle. Those shouldn’t have “metal” showing.
  3. Have you taken your files to an online repair service? That might help fix those issues.
  4. Looks good! Maybe you can fit some doller store lights and sounds to it later down the road!
  5. 0. Fourth of July Parade @ Flagstaff Arizona, 7/4/21 - Wrangler My Imperial training complete, my civic duty called for me to assist troopers in the first major operation since the plague swept this portion of the galaxy. This was the single largest gathering for this particular event in recent history. As I marched alongside my future brethren, an announcer pulled me aside to ask what my "costume was", before rhetorically asserting that my "costume" was that of a "fan". The nerve-the audacity! I was a future trooper after all! I have no idea how I could be confused with a spinning mechanical component. I don't even look like a droid! I merely answered truthfully yet respectfully that I was there to ensure the safety of the troopers and ensure they had adequate drink. Should the need arrive provide assistance if necessary. I will not forget his insolence, my wrath will be great. Despite this insult, I carried on to the completion of the march. Afterwards, we arrived at a commissary which found itself understrength despite a warning in advance. Holo-net interference seems to be a likely culprit. Despite this, the mission was a success. 8/10/21 ANH TK (Stunt) Approved 1. Free Comic Book Day @ Flagstaff Arizona, 8/14/21 - ANH-S TK All forces gathered on time and we geared up. Operators of a local food establishment took particular notice of us, we kept the location of this "Tikki Bar" in mind and will perform a closer inspection of their cuisine later. Much Imperial relief was gathered for the Imperial mandated food drive. Mission Successful. 2. Coconino County Fair @ Flagstaff Arizona, 9/3/21 - ANH-S TK Arrived Late due to local fair gate attendant requiring authorization I did not have. Despite asserting they need not need to see my identification, it was to no avail. Lord Kylo would soon arrive on the scene and granted me access to our staging area where the rest of our task force was gearing up for the mission. First few hours went well. After a few hours of mobilization, Three young rebel rabble rousers compromised the mission and we were forced to retire early. Our scout trooper commandeered local transportation - further documentation will be provided in the near future as evidence. Despite trouble makers, Lord Kylo learned the meaning of friendship. In light of this, I can say that this patrol was not a complete waste of Imperial resources. Mission successful.
  6. I can appreciate what they were going for the helmet visor/antenna, but kinda disliking the pauldron. I'm assuming once it's released we can no-clip to get all the needed views or even just rip the model from the game.
  7. Kinda sad to have not seen this armor in the Bad Batch yet, considering just how big of a fanboy Dave Feloni is with video games. Really hoping we get to see Vader keep his 501st clones together for as long as possible like what happened in legends.
  8. You’ll find it hard to hear with the helmet fans. I myself have been eyeing Uks’ hearing assist
  9. It’s really awesome that you’re doing this! I’m sorry that first contract didn’t go according to plan, but this is a huge step forward for FOTK! I might print myself a set at some point in the future.
  10. I was in a state of limbo with my AM 4.5 build with updates coming in months at a time. What finally got me to finish my armor was wrangling for the first live troop since Covid at the 2021 Flagstaff 4th of July Parade. Having over 100 members of my garrison showing up was awesome and so I quickly got motivated and submitted my photos. I am a little on the heavier side hence the Armor Master build, but I was super conscious about my weight and felt less and less motivated as I put on the armor, much less submit my photos for approval. after the parade, I took a deep breath, asked my local garrison members to help take the photos for me, and sent them off to the GMLs. Two weeks later, I get an email saying that I got accepted into the legion without any modifications needed. That gave me the confidence boost I *really* needed, and made me excited for my first troop that was just a few days away.
  11. Looking up E-6000 on multiple websites says that it can only withstand up to 32 degrees for prolong periods and up to 40 degrees for short periods. Not ideal for areas where it can reach 44c in the shade, let alone sitting in a hot car traveling a few hours from point A to B here.
  12. All my limbs have double strips on them. The area they are most important is the shins though, but you’ve already caught on to that! I should also mention that depending on where you you two are, don’t troop in the heat with E-6000. While the stuff is great when building, but the garrison I’m with has had issues of the E-6000 melting and coming apart in the Arizona heat. Most of the troopers I know use super glue which definitely has its drawbacks.
  13. Try selling them here, this is the personal items section which is open to everyone. The sales section you went to is for 501st merchandise.
  14. Something to keep in mind for further accuracy is that the scope is made of brass, with the handle being plastic. That being said, it only really matters if you were planning on weathering your blaster at all. With the scope, learning to drybrush can allow you to achieve some realistic details.
  15. Are you doing double cover strips? If not, I highly recommend having internal cover strips + external ones. Those provide the extra rigidity for armor. i’m always weary of using hot glue guns. Especially since AM kits are thicker than most so it might take a little extra time/force to get them to shape and provide a higher risk of making mistakes. You might want to look into using boiling water to get them into shape.
  16. Thought I’d share something that’s been sitting in my back pocket (or rather, workbench) for a while. It’s a preview of things to come.
  17. Looking good you two! I was just recently approved with my AM 4.5 kit! If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask! here’s my build thread if that helps!
  18. Vaders are always wanted since there tends to never be enough to go around. My garrison since it’s starting to wake up from the Covid nap has a little bit of competition for Vader slots since everyone wants to get trooping again. Usually Vaders have other costumes that they go as when that spot’s been taken. as others have said, Vader costumes do tend to be expensive, so I’d take that into consideration.
  19. It’s honestly awesome seeing what you’ve done with eva foam! One of the things that really stuck out to me was the fact that all the skills you learned from foamsmithing really does apply to working with hard kits as well! I’m still terrible at using bondo and sanding lol. Not only that, but you strive for accuracy as well! This is what the 501st is all about and I hope to see you get a plastic kit some day, but no rush! I am super glad that you are sharing your journey with us here! I look forward to your future posts!
  20. Really sorry to hear that! It took me 2 months to get access to the garrison forums because of some maintenance shenanigans where my application got lost in the nether. I ended up messaging a trooper here on FISD who was with the garrison and he engaged with the garrison commander and let me sign in. You don’t need to be a 501st member to be a member of a garrison’s forums, but being in the 501st allows you to see more forum sections and allows you to sign up for troops. This is one process I do find a bit silly, but I understand why they put restrictions on who can join the forums. lastly, have you tried messaging Ukswrath here on the forums? He’s one of the admins and is located in the western Cali, but I’m sure he can get you in touch with garrison members in your area if you asked him.
  21. Sounds like either Armor Master or RWA kits are probably where you’d want to conduct your search. The next step is to look through build threads and see how other troopers of a similar size have built their armor. It will also help you understand the differences between those two kits.
  22. I can understand that the hobby is really intimidating when you first join FISD, and when I was much younger, I felt the same as you. To the point I *gasp* bought ebay armor because “what does it matter? Armor is armor!” sure enough, I opened the box and realized just what I got myself into. Between poorly made parts, tons of inaccuracies, and just in general, terrible part quality. Thankfully I was able to return the armor for a full refund. Didn’t sign back onto the forums for a long while since I felt so discouraged. Then I decided to go to the page Gmrhodes posted and ended up making that my home page for a bit. Weeks go by as I started to really study the different armors to figure out which one was best for me, between quality, durability, and accurateness. I started reading other people’s build threads to get a better idea of what I can expect. I got in contact with my local garrison and they arranged to have dinner with me in just the span of a few weeks! All for a total stranger no less, but they were excited to meet a possible future trooper! Eventually I settled on an Armor Master 4.5 kit. A kit that costed twice as much as the 400 USD ebay armor I got! And let me tell you, I did not regret it. All the research payed off and I was able to get help from everyone on the forums. Not only that, but one of the troopers at the dinner turns out to live just a few minutes from my place and offered me to work on my armor in his basement. He basically was a guiding hand helping me every step on the way and was the one who helped me take my submission photos. What you get for joining the 501st is finding a second family as it turns out lol. what sets the 501st apart from other costuming groups is the fact that we strive for movie accuracy, to aim for a level of authenticity that even Lucasfilm even recognizes. That’s not to say that there aren’t other costuming groups of similar standards, it’s just that in a lot of ways, the 501st is the gold standard. I suppose at the end of the day, you will need to ask yourself why you want the stormtrooper armor. If you want to dress up as a stormtrooper from time to time, it is perfectly fine to do so without the strict guidelines of the 501st. However, if you want to go the extra mile and be part of a group that helps others and has a lasting impact both to star wars and her fans, then maybe this is the place you want to be. Sorry for the long post, but I think it will give you a better idea of “why we are the way we are”. The 501st isn’t for everyone, but unlike Yoda, we are certainly open to people who at least try.
  23. The trooper who guided me through the building process said it normally takes about 60 hours for a normal TK build and that mine took twice that amount because I was so focuses on making sure everything was made to a higher level. Once things calm down a but where I’m at, I’ll get ready to submit a pre-submission for EIB. I’ve already done my first troop up in Flagstaff. Hopefully some troops open up down there so I get to finally troop with you valley troopers!
  24. EIB will probably be the next step. I should be in a decent position. All I’m worried about is just the helmet paint.
