  1. Well, that was it, there's always a first official troop. Today, I kicked myself in the a very impolite person, got my suit off my mannrquin and decided to join a group a costumee from Montreal. Some of them are part of the 501st, but the group is a little larger in terms of acceptable costumes. Anyway, here I am, with other folks, it was kinda cool to be hanging around other folks with costumes, was the first time for me! Here're some pics Elite status? damn me for being so lazy, check the Elite thread now ...
  2. Great pic Scott .. Gotta love those ground level photos. Now, I feel like I'm 6 inches tall and that big boy will probably have a lot of fun with me! RUN!
  3. Redford Films is IMO the best AD out there. I've already done business with him a couple times and I've got nothing but positive comments!
  4. With the success of my last Vader meets Jedi, here's SW on snowboard! http://www.transworldsnowboarding.com/vide...p?ID=1000005766
  5. I have AP too, and pretty big calves (volleyball maniac )! If I'd have to redo it, I'd use the abs strip method on my calves & other pieces so that instead of having the piece overlapping, they'd join with shims over them. That would have given me a little more space all around and it would have been perfect. It's still not too bad, they kinda join, but they always end up unvelcroing in the back! You can see the left calf piece not totally closing on this pic http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...=si&img=362 Still looking pretty good I think considering my height!!!
  6. Although I only caught the second part, I liked it. I thought it was pretty cool that they didn't have fun of Star Wars in a geaky way or try to diminish the people. They went along and everyone seemed to enjoy it!!! Found it funny that pretty much all TKs were FX Yeah, I know, 95% of the 501st are! Didn't see that Carrie Fisher thing .. so I'll check it out if it comes online! Thanks for the tips guys!
  7. You can get the orange peel away? I think I need more explanation on this one as I don't see how this is possible? What is the compound doing exactly? Making the paint flatter? Does it take paint away? I'm really curious about this. When would you apply the compound, right after the paint job while it's still "fresh" to some degree or after it completely cured? Would the compound yellow the paint, let's say if the base coat is white, after some time? Too much questions?
  8. Until now, I've painted 2 helmets, my Commander Neyo helmet and my MLC Biker Scout helmet. Both are fiberglass. The Neyo helmet has been painted with High Gloss Krylon Fusion which did some orange peel. I followed the instructions and spraying distance and all that crap and it still did it. 4 coats didn't change a thing. I wanted my Biker Scout helmet to be perfect, so I tried Rust-Oleum paint which also is High Gloss (see other paint threads here). Well, my first spray still wasn't successful and I didn't have the high gloss finish I see here at all. So I sanded it back down to the primer and restarted again. Primer, wet sand, then 3 coats of Rust-Oleum again. THIS 2nd TIME though, I got much closer to the helmet, maybe 6" instead of 10-12" like the bottle says, and my left-right movement for painting was much much slower, I'd say at least by 4 times. I essentially waited for the paint on the helmet to go from mist, to thickness to glossiness on each passage. This gave me a nice glossy finish .. still not as good as Mike's result cause to me, this thing looks perfect!!! But it is close enough for me to be really satisfied. So my tricks: 1. Spray closer 2. Slower back & forth movement Some once told me: "There's a thin line between a nice thick coat and a paint run!". This pretty much resumes it for me.
  9. LOL!!! Awesome surprise!!! My girlfriend went from "Yeah, I think I've seen Star Wars when I was young cause my 5 years older brother watched it" to "Hey, you wanna drop ESB in tonight?" Very nice!
  10. Yep, I also love the bump, but made it a little smaller with a hair dryer!! Took 5 minutes really .. Check the before and after here: http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?s=&a...ost&p=36968
  11. Someone has watched ROTS a little too often ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_west/7360871.stm
  12. Same here, been repainting my brand new MLC V3 Biker Scout helmet for the 2nd time here .. man that was a pain in the a very impolite person!!! But now it's done We're with you buddy!
  13. Depression is when I don't have time to work on my props because I party'ed too much the previous night! mattastic, is that your GF on the pic (can't really see)? You might have other problems at hand then her hating the white armor!
  14. FYI, I had the exact same problem with low batteries too. Wiring it up on a brand new battery fixed that issue! For the sake of others, you should definitely tell us what the solution was, although I strongly suspect it's the battery and you're ashamed to say so!
  15. Great find!!! I'm in Montreal .. so let us know, I've been looking for this everywhere without any success and I'd like a bottle of #2 if available. Or whatever you find ..
  16. I also like the idea .. my fan (only one since the other side os the RomFX), is holding in the bucket with 2 strips of velcro along the upper edge, and the lower edge. Like it was said above, make sure to make this as thin as possible to prevent getting in the way when the fan is on. Also, being able to make that out of rubber would be the most awesome solution!!! Anything hard will transmit vibrations and be a pain.
  17. Scott, I had expressed an interest in this, and it's still there .. but we received our game milestone a month ago, and I'll definitely be stuck working overtime and crunching this summer .. perhaps it will still be possible, but I prefer to let you know in case I was one of those pending persons ... Great initiative .. and I'll make sure to let you know if I ever can make it! I'd be glad to meet you all! Al
  18. New helmet posted here http://threads.rebelscum.com/showthreaded....amp;o=&vc=1 http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=e...etfront3vp3.jpg http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=s...cklucitedf5.jpg
  19. welcome from montreal my canadian brother!
  20. Well, I'd definitely go in this order: ANH, ESB, ROTJ, TPM, AOTC and ROTS I think beginning with TPM is taking an aweful ris with your audience, they'll probably kick yourself asking you why the hell you're showing them such crap! That says a lot on my personal opinion of that movie. While beginning at ANH, you'll automatically hook them on Star Wars as it was meant to be seen .. with awesome special effect and a great story. After the OT, they'll want to see the PT. That's how I plan on doing it on my side anyway! Hehehe
  21. Hey Darryl, Yes this subject has been covered before .. the MR blaster is accepted as canon if you modify it with a counter. You can see a thread here doing just that: http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=1704 The major turn off though is the weight of the gun .. as it's getting heavier on long troops. Also, it's cost and nature as a collectible makes it not as fun to troop with (fear of dropping, can't give it to kids who wanna see it, etc ... )
  22. I strongly disagree with that statement .. Maybe our favorite armor makers are not in for the money, but I don't feel like ABS helmets and a few goodies are worth 250$-1000$ like we see. Now, I'm not saying I don't agree with the prices, but sellers definitely make money with these things .. Of course, not as much as AA .. his prices are completely absurd!! Thanks to AP etc ... it's possible for the "budget" people to get suits!
  23. A quick response to all this is that AA is advertising his stuff with an official web site and was probably making it a little too "official" for the taste of uncle George. While other makers do this by PM, email and with much more secrecy. They don't advertise anywhere and it's a person to person contact that gives the info. That's why we don't name sellers/makers publicly too.
  24. I'm quite surprised by the gloss of that ABS (post 11), I've never seen an AP so glossy before ... Mine sure isn't and I've seen enough direct from AP to know that it's been quite a while since he had such a shine on his ABS. Mmmm
