  1. I've just used the screws that came with my AP kit, and it pretty much set things right where it should be. And it does hold everything really tight. Again, now that I think about it, you must be talking about the 2 head-piece sections of the FX helmet?
  2. God .. I love that .. And I was just about to go buy my hardware for my bucket's guts. I'll definitely go for that as I hate the hot glue finish around my lenses. I also need to find some rigid green lenses .. I wonder if anybody on the board would have some extra - maybe some rest from a welder's mask or something? The green plastic I got with the AP suit is way too thin for my taste. Also, are the fans glued to your lid? They seem to hold in the air .. from the velcro only? And a more general question for those who painted their bucket's inside, what's the best way to make sure to not have black paint past the inside frame?
  3. IMO, it's a shame how much people ask for shipping. May it be from US or Canada, people tend to try to get a few more bucks out of your pockets by overcharging the shipping. I am in Canada and it costs really not much to ship oversea or to the US .. I could even go to my post office and ask for you, if you want, lmk the weight and destination, I'll lyk! PM if you want! I think you can see honest people by the price they charge for shipping. I was sent speakers from another tk here, and the shipping was the same as the us, which is pretty normal .. that's service my friend! )
  4. For me, trimming was the best part. Yes, my dremel made a lot of sounds for a couple nights and there was abs particles everywhere but it was clearly the funniest part for me. In mo occasion I regretted getting an untrimmed kit plus. Actually, it was so fun that I may eventually get another kit from AP and sell this one as completed :-) BTW, about your modeling skills, don't forget that the bigger the pieces, the easier it is to trim
  5. For those who'd care, AP never actually went forward with this as his test armor revealed an armor that was way too much "bendable". Sorry for the lack of vocabulary. The armor details were great (I saw it myself), details, sharpness was incredible and its test ABS was pretty shinny too. But when grabbing the pieces, you'd feel like it was made out of plastic paper and AP didn't want to send such a product to people. His first desire is to make sure people like his kit upon reception (I did for my 0.080 one!) and that was not his feeling with the 0.060 thick ABS kit. Thought I'd share, Cheers
  6. First, I'd like to say that this is a really really constructive discussion, really liked going through it. Now, that being said, I'd just like to point out that a lot of time, I read that people over 6' can't go other than FX or should get the FX because of the size being bigger in proportion. Yes it's true, the kit is made bigger BUT IMO, it has nothing to do with height (look at me, I'm 6'3'' and been told (to my surprise) that I was looking good in my armor. Everything has to do with body proportions or weight. Forget height, I'm sure some people got discouraged by the fact that they were over 6' and went the FX way just because they read everywhere that the FX was pretty much the best option. While in fact, it has all to do with weight and body proportion. I guess I'm lucky enough to be at 6'3 190lbs and looking good in my AP kit. I actually started a thread to get any feedback on things I should look into to make the fitting better since I'm a newb to all this too Cheers
  7. Well I guess you have the right body proportions to wear the ANH right? IMO, a lot of people considers the height of someone as the restriction for ANH armor where it's not the height but actually the size / proportions that goes with it normally. I'm 6'3'' 190lbs .. so that's proportional and people told me on another thread that my armor actually looked real good on me. While on all forums, the thing you hear is that over 6'', there's no ANH option for anyone. Height doesnt not matter, size matters To come back to the point here, I'd go all the way ANH if the armor is nicely done. I do not regret the AP I got. While sometime, I'd like to try some parts of the FX suit I see everywhere. Mu shoulders are actually a little oversized for the kit. A good snap system fixed that part Cheers
  8. I agree, I'm pretty sure it would. But for one, I don't have a heat gun, and also, I'm sure some people with AP kit figured it out, or a way to twist it etc... I might try the heat gun though, also sounds safe considering if something happens, well, it's just the knee piece ...
  9. I've used the tools that came with my snaps. Some kind of metal punch and a metal base to make the hole. One hammer smash and it would punch right through anything. Then, I quickly waved a lighter under the hole to seal the fabric and make sure it won't begin to fall appart over time. That worked real neat for all my straps and snaps on my kit.
  10. TK Well .. the way it's molded doesn't leave a lot of space for interpretation .. I'll try to get a picture of the kee + the thigh to show you. Anyone with an AP armor should know what I mean .. These are not so well molded like the RTMod I think!
  11. The tiltle says it all .. I'm trying to figure out how to fit the knee plate on my AP kit .. but just can't seem to get a good grip at it! Who did it and what did it look like? Any good pix I could refer to? As usual, thanks for the help Cheers
  12. Damn, so much projects there man .. I wonder when you had time to keep the girlfriend project going? ))
  13. Hey Daetrin, Would you be so kind as to post a pic of your setup? The liner I bought was preventing me from putting the helmet on. It wouldn't let me fit my head in since I needed to fit in sideways and it would prevent my head of getting it all the way down the bottom of the bucket to be able to turn it back in line. So I'll end up buying foam but not too sure which foam to buy yet! And I thought I had a small head .. but then again, that helmet sure is small!!!
  14. I get the trimming tool setup .. but I'm not sure about the "how it really gets bigger by just removing 3 pennies worth of spaces" on the abs. Actually, what I did here, even if that's not enough to get it much bigger is to just remove the black rubber, take a pencil and draw a line (kindof a smile - starting from one side, getting larger in the back center, and then back flush with the other side) , cut there with exacto and sand to get a good finish. Then, I put back the rubber. That gave me almost an inch more of space to get my head in .. and I can't even notice the visual difference, it's just much more spacy to fit my head. I still think about removing some more but then, the black rubber won't reach around anymore. Notice how virgin my bucket it? Funny compared to all those crazy wired lid you guys have!
  15. Hey guys, I figured I'd ask here since I've had these questions from day 1 that I've built my helmet, maybe you'll be able to shed some lights on any of em! I built my ap bucket, everyone knows we have to twist it to put it on? Right? And then I bought a construction hat to remove the liner and put it in my helmet. Just to realize that I wasn't able to do that since putting a liner in there was preventing my head to slip in properly. If I do that, I can't slip in sideways then turn it inside there. So I'm stuck with the only option to put foam in there, which I guess isn't that bad either as I read around that a lot of people loved that better than the liner. So what did you guys actually do in your non-FX lid? I'd appreciate pix of the inside if you have any, I might take some ideas before going an buy any kind of foam out there ... Also, has anyone of you enlarged the "head hole" and make it bigger so that you would have less difficulty to get your head in there? I noticed in the movie that Han's lid had been enlarged so much, and the poor guy needed to twist it off anyway Anyone had the courage to do this too? Cheers
  16. Wow! That's just perfect!!! Thanks TK8280 & Troopermaster!!!
  17. ANH holster .. as I have an ANH ap armor as well
  18. Hi all .. First, I'm new to this forum and salute you all! I'm in the process of completing my armor, and now, looking for the final details, weapon & holster. So, I'm trying to get my hands on a holster pattern since I have leather shops close to my place and would like to give a try at having one built for me. So, would anyone have a pattern with proper dimensions and details? Thanks, Al
