  1. Just to clarify a few things, James is going for ANH, not RO, which was why I was concerned that the S&T would not qualify, as it is not cast off of an actual Sterling SMG as it should be. It should be noted that the S&T is sold in two configurations - a base Sterling-esque replica AEG, and a "finished" E-11-style blaster. The base Sterling replica is absolutely accurate for Rogue One. The "finished" blaster however is woefully inadequate in its accessories. Production clearly used commonly available hobby-level parts from DoopyDoos and SDS on the base Sterling, not the finished models. As James swapped out the scope already and a wonderful thread detailing the differences is available, I'll assume that he knew that. The real question is - is the BASE S&T blaster with corrected ANH style accessories passable in lieu of the correct Sterling cast base for an ANH submission at L2/L3? I'm curious too.
  2. I suppose I should finish this out, huh? Updated action photo with blaster added to the OP! I also cleaned the blaster up a little too - fixed the bent scope rail, cleaned up the paint on the bolt, and fixed a big crack on a the mag well. Hopefully that does it. Thank you, @TKSpartan!
  3. Added additional links to make it a little easier on you, but yup - RESEARCH is key to finding what will make you happiest with your purchase! OT also look cool with White Shadow liners, but I don't think I'd try to cut the tube vent stripes out of an ABS OT helmet is mostly what I meant. Hope that helped though!
  4. Sounds like you want a Rogue One/New Era style helmet (current options: print Nico Henderson's files, convert a Hasbro Black Series, get a fiberglass one from Jimmiroquai, or a slush cast resin one from 850 Armor Works or Head Shot Props, though the last has been having delivery issues) as they are more symmetrical and idealized, and a White Shadow helmet liner or similar. An OT style helmet wouldn't look right for what you're trying to do, I don't think.
  5. Good point - technically, as the CRL is written, it may pass. But it will be up to the DOs, who take more than just the wording of the CRLs into account, and the RO S&T does have several notable differences from the actual Sterling SMGs the ANH E-11s are based on, as Glen linked. I'll be curious to see what they say at L3!
  6. Many of us in the US use Rust-Oleum 2X Painter's Touch Gloss White for ROTK and FOTKs. OTTKs should only be painted as a last resort, as it is very difficult to match the white of your maker's ABS and (other than the helmet), it is not accurate anyways.
  7. As of writing, they are not responding to messages or producing props.
  8. Having someone competent adjust you during your photo session is probably all you need! Plus, I'd wait for officially required feedback from the DOs before making more permanent mods - it looks great! You'll likely need a new blaster for L2/3 though, as that one is accurate for Rogue One, but not ANH (though not required for Basic approval). If you end up getting a different one, let me know and I'll buy that one And just to be clear, to reach L3, you need to: 1. Submit to your local GML (Gary!) via email with just front/back/sides/helmet off photos 2. Wait for approval at basic and a TKID to be assigned to you 3. Once approved at Basic, post a new thread with the additional photos and info required here and request L2 Expert Infantry status 4. Receive feedback from the DOs, make any required changes, and receive approval at L2 5. Post a new thread here and request L3 Centurion status 5. Receive feedback, make any required changes, and receive approval at L3! 6. Party. This particular Pre-Approval subforum is great for getting a gauge on your armor from people who KNOW stormtroopers, but doesn't have an official impact on anything. Hope that helps and good luck!
  9. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they "slush-cast", not rotocast. Rotocasting involves a big ol' machine that rotates the helmet in an 'orbit' that evenly distributes the resin. If it was actually rotocast, you wouldn't have this problem (or not as bad at least). I haven't seen 850 post a photo of a rotocast machine in their shop either, so I'm pretty sure they slush cast by hand... Some extra resin and chopped fiberglass should set you right and isn't too difficult to add, and the mic tip area and around the neckline are common areas that crack. But at a minimum, I personally would do some truck bedliner to black out the interior anyways.
  10. Sorry, back to make some more trouble... Super. I totally understand that, but other detachments have set the example of not requiring a specific film in their CRL titles. I think "/Anthology, "/New Generation", or "/Non-Saga" amended to Rogue One are among the most popular suggestions for an alternative. What do we need to do to get that going? Shall we start a poll and let membership vote on the name change before submitting to the LMOs for approval? Let's make it happen! Originally, but we've grown! Not being "shiny white" is a different reasoning than "no one is prepared to make the costume". We have folks prepared to make the costume, but who are understandably hesitant considering the uncertainty of an approvable CRL moving forward. I would argue that the "Remnant Stormtrooper" belongs to FISD, on the documentation from LFL alone - it's a "Remnant STORMTROOPER", not "Sandtrooper". The weathering is distinctly different from previously seen Sandtroopers (the black chipping alone), and none have been seen with backpacks (I'd argue Jedha Patrol is a different scenario). There should be sufficient documentation of the angles, if not in their entirety, enough to piece together a full view of the costume. As previously mentioned, we've seen CRLs approved on less. One of us will plan to submit a more formal post in the near future (hopefully with additional input from @BigJasoni, @11b30b4, and some other key stakeholders), to show with certainty that the same armor has been used across multiple properties, warranting amendment of the "Rogue One Stormtrooper" CRL to an updated title, as well as the various required angles and differences for a NEW Remnant CRL to be developed, and once tentative approval is achieved, someone will move forward with building and submitting an example of the costume. Let's keep this going!
  11. Got my Rogue One Stormtrooper approval! 3/9/21 Got my Imperial Staff Officer (Non-Saga) approval! 3/17/21 57. Star Wars Day Storytime and STEAM Costume Workshop for Portola Springs Elementary - Irvine, CA - Tue. 5/4/21 (ID #21 and ROTK #1)
  12. Looking amazing so far! The number of belt boxes alone can be intimidating forsure. Looks like you've had lots of practice drawing colored lines on things ;P But that's very helpful - great thread!
  13. Delightful video and story, and I wish him the best! But also...
  14. Fascinating. Could be "stunt" suit mods. Great collection of photos and I concur that the L3 requirement: The front belt protrudes past all mounted ammunition boxes above and below by approximately 1/8”-1/4” 3-6mm. should be struck from the CRL or modified to reflect the reference presented at the next overhaul.
  15. The photo shared is from either deleted scenes or promotional materials and never actually seen on screen in Rogue One. That being said, the majority if not all of the belts I have seen (including ones seen on set in person) were even across the top and bottom, not stepped on the bottom like in the shared promo photo. I think either way should be allowed by the CRL though, personally. I'd be surprised to see any with the boxes hanging past the edge of the belt, so definitely post some official reference if it's out there.
  16. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001JJCI0Q/ Here's the one I used off Amazon. It's a little closer and still pretty cheap. Had to remove the adjustment knob housing to move the front clamp, but since it's mounted backwards, it's not like it ever needs to hold zero again haha
  17. Absolutely - I think this will be only the second New Generation suit you guys have looked at after Jeff's, and the first under the new CRL he helped write, so I'm happy to be patient. Just since I'm suiting up an additional time to finish this out, it would be great to know if I have any Centurion changes to make (other than showing the tabs on my trauma plate) or fitment issues to watch for. It's kind of a whole production to get the suit out, put it on, and have my fiance take pictures, so any efficiencies I can create are appreciated. Feel free to PM me if/when you have anything, and thank you!
  18. OUTSTANDING post, Jason and very much appreciated. Your info and pics make the picture very clear, so mostly to recap: "Remnant" Troopers are distinctly different than any New Era stormtroopers we have otherwise seen in any of the new properties, and are acknowledged by LFL as such through licensed merchandising. Is it a DRASTIC difference from the standard, cleanwhite New Era Stormtrooper? No. But is IS clearly and consistently different. And should be accounted for in a CRL somehow, once someone builds one. I don't know how this process formally works, but we would propose a new Mandalorian "Remnant Stormtrooper" be created. However, suits which should be noted that are NOT substantively different are the "Rogue One"-style suits from Solo and the Mandalorian thusfar, and I think it is extremely likely that we will see this same style armor as the standard depiction of OT-era stormtroopers moving forward in all LFL productions. ANH is VHS, New Era is 4K BluRay. These suits also need to be accounted for - and I would second Jason and strongly suggest/propose doing so by renaming the Rogue One CRL something like "Non-Saga", "New Era", or "New Generation" Stormtrooper to include these other properties, as the IOC did to cover Staff Officer costumes from these properties with their Non-Saga Staff Officer CRL update. I believe the only change to the CRL (other than the name) would be adding optional accessories from the other properties (SE-14R and E-22 blasters to start, as there is clear reference). We believe there is enough reference material to support these proposals and people willing to create the new Remnant costume and separate CRL. So what else do we need? Let's make this happen, @Sly11! *Another note - the weathering on the Remnant is distinctly different than those for Sandtroopers - notably the black chipping seen. Also, no backpacks. MEPD can't have it
  19. If possible, can I receive any other feedback you may have in advance of suiting up again for the blaster shots? If I have anything to fix or focus on for Centurion, I'd like to do new photos at the same time.
  20. I would say with a fair degree of confidence that that is the S&T Airsoft gun that they sell under part number (AEG-ST-AEG-68) as a "completed" E-11-style blaster, with electronics added instead of shooting BBs. For the Rogue One studio guns, to the best of my knowledge, they used the Airsoft rifle as the base Sterling, but had mostly resin Doopy-Doos and SDS accessories added to them, not the ones included on the completed S&T "E-11". Cool, and could be modified to be a Rogue One/New Generation style blaster without too much effort, but only good for approval if that's your intent and the costume you'd use it with.
  21. I'm getting my second vaccine this weekend and I anticipate being pretty out of sorts, so it'll probably be another couple weeks before I have a chance to. Wish I would have known I'd have to suit up again for that... I'll get to it... : facepalm :
  22. I have the Jimmi integrated version, and it's might easy to get on and off, and the gasket areas stay in place nicely, so +1 for that.
