  1. Gentlemen, thank you for your replies I dared enter the hallowed domain of a fabric shop today. The ladies looked pityingly at me, and informed me that the pink/red colouration comes from a nylon/bleach chemical reaction. Seems that my strap has some nylon in it, and the red comes from the chlorine destroying the nylon. Also went to a pharmacy, and spoke to the gentleman behind the counter. Upon telling him what I was doing, he got a nerdish gleam in his eye, and said if I dropped a bit off to him, he would try every chemical he had on it and see if any worked. I have some awesome fabric paint, and I've given that a go. The khaki colour really likes to bleed through, so it is taking 3 coats to cover it, by which time all the detail of the fabric is hidden. More tests to follow.
  2. Terry, what ratio do you think it may have been, and what sort of bleach was it? I'm using sodium hypochlorite bleach. The 2 little strips are my latest attempt, the one in the middle is water/bleach at 10/1 ratio, the one on the right is water/bleach at 20/1 ratio, both for 25 minutes. They are both still wet, so a little darker than they will be, but nowhere near off white.
  3. Hi all, I've recently found a roll of the same vintage cargo strap that Wyatt had a little while ago. Yay, you may well say... only problem is, it is olive drabish in colour. I've tried bleach, and dye remover on it, and it just goes weird colours. Left, original colour, middle, 20 minutes in bleach, right, an hour in dye remover. Anyone know anything about this stuff, and any way to get it looking whiter? I'm trying to get my hands on some white fabric dye, but have not been able to find any locally. Thanks in advance, Dave.
  4. Mr Mitchell Laine has been mentioned on this forum before: http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=12655&st=0&p=154638&hl=mitchell&fromsearch=1entry154638 He has gone by a couple of names, and a couple of ages. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=11148&st=0&p=139135&fromsearch=1entry139135 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=9991&st=0&p=126240&hl=mitchell&fromsearch=1entry126240 He keeps appearing. He generally puts pictures of other peoples stuff up, and says it is his. He isn't a prop maker, he is just a bastard who likes ripping people off.
  5. Happy Birthday, mate. Hope you are having an awesome day
  6. Same here. I'm running FF4, and it just looks dark and dismal
  7. I've got 4 different trooping E-11s, a base Hasbro, painted black, a doopydoo'ed hasbro ( I've not used this one for years), a basic pipe build, and a you-beaut pipe build with all the bells and whistles. I never thought I'd troop with a Hasbro again, but we recently did 4 Weird Al gigs, and there was no way I was going to jump around on stage with either of my pipe builds. So, painted Hasbro it was. I think they have their place. Btw, they are all illegal in Australia, so I can get arrested for carrying any of them. The "I have a Hasbro because it won't get me arrested, and a pipe build will" spiel doesn't cut it here
  8. Karin, we pay anything up to $500 US to get a suit of armour sent to Australia, so I don't think a bit extra for hand guards is going to bother anyone.
  9. Just looking at my Gino V2, and my TE2, and although neither of them is as pronounced as yours, the indentation is still there in both of them. Leave it as is
  10. Thanks, Paul. Would help if I read the thread title
  11. Sean, which costumes CRL are you looking at? ANH stunt?
  12. I tried Officeworks first, and they didn't have the right ones. Shawn, I have a heap, and am happy to send you a set. May be a bit cheaper than having Brian send you a set.
  13. Maybe you could buy a newspaper, or a coke or something, and make it worthwhile?
  14. Shawn, I popped in to my local newsagent, and found a pack of 30 for $2.50. I haven't measured them as yet, but, to my untrained eye, they look to be the right size.
  15. Indeed. I think he said he is not going by that name any more. Not denying that it was him. Lets face it, the guy couldn't lie straight in bed. Don't expect consistency from him.
  16. Thank you Karin, the Sex Pistols should always be our ambassadors of the English language Bollocks it is!!
  17. Thanks It's Friday night, I'm relaxing and sipping on a single malt, watching a game in the Cricket World Cup, and reading that Facepage page just made my day
  18. Generally, when LFL want to talk to someone in the 501st, either in the Legion Command, or down to Garrison level, the Fan Relations people ( the soon to retire Steve Sansweet, and Mary Franklin ) get in contact. These are the people who actually do the talking about events and stuff. I've seen Albin post that he has been in contact with uncle George on 501st business, and I know there are a few folk who seem to know him, but I think that probably has nothing to do with the 501st, they just know him. On a personal level, I was in Georges presence 3 times at CV, twice within 18 to 20 inches of him, and I may as well have been a fleck of fly poo on the wall.

    Thank you!

Congrats mate Paul, you and all of the staff do an amazing job. Thanks Dave.
  20. White Spirits, or Mineral Turps are the way to go. Both work fine with enamel paints. Mineral turps is cheaper, about $3 /litre here in Australia. Much cheaper than the dinky little cans that Humbrol sell.
  21. All of my internet identities are either davej, or davej351. The 351C is for the finest motor car engine ever produced, the Ford 351 Cleveland. I've owned a few in my time, and I love them Legion ID 351 was taken, so I added an 8 to the front of it. 8351, signing out...
  22. Looks to be one piece. Fibreglass or resin? Unusual looking bucket.
