Hey all, figured I'd start up a thread while waiting for parts to ship. My husband and I will be making HWT backpacks. I'm going to roughly use the build pattern laid out by Ukswrath because it's awesome. So far storage contains, oil pans, and antennae are inbound. We'll be doing a lot of the work at an armor party next weekend Since there's no pictures yet, I thought I'd start it off with a question; has anyone plasti-dipped the backpacks before scuffing/weathering? It might give a really neat texture.

As others have said... I nearly bought pre-built but ended up going with a kit. It was hard work to figure everything out, and definitely a process, but now that I've made it I feel so proud of it. I'm already working on a second now with my husband. If someone as inept as me can do it I believe anyone is capable of it! There's so many great resources here on WhiteArmor If you have your heart set on buying pre-built, I'd definitely check out AP or RS. Both makers sell pre-built (I believe... might have changed since I inquired) and are both great sets. Don't gamble with Ebay.

You can pick up something called "Pet Mesh" from Home Depot. Like $9 for a giant roll that you can do every helmet you ever come across 4 times over and never run out of

Who did your pauldron? It looks slick! Great build

TK-16127 Requesting HWT Centurion Status [RT] [5]

That DLT-19 is BEAUTIFUL! You look great Trooper! -
Finally buffed out all the nerf dart marks... time for Centurion! http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/39147-tk-20466-requesting-anh-stunt-centurion-status-ap/ Hopefully I got everything there. I took in the wrists a bit more but honestly there's not much more I can take off without completely removing that last indent button. After that... I think I'm going to start a conversion to Heavy Weapons Trooper

Cricket's RS Stunt Build (for the Vertically Challenged)
Alay replied to Cricket's topic in ANH Build Threads
Damn you're coming along amazingly with this build! As a thought, you might want to split the difference some places with foam padding on the interior. I just worry you might end up with helmet proportions seeming weird. -
Wow amazing shots! Thanks so much Paul! That figure would certainly be a great start for a CRL reference! It might be a stretch (especially considering they were in the film for < a second) but maybe one of the screen used ones will turn up.
-
Are there any plans to add this to a CRL at some point in the future as an ANH accessory or would a "space pack trooper" be its own deal? Considering undergoing trying to build one...

Begun the ANH Stunt Build has [RS]
Alay replied to Alexx_G's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Looking good! Your eyes could be trimmed out further as there's still a bit of material in there.

RS is a great kit -
Thanks I added new hooks to the biceps and they worked great all weekend! Now that I'm done with the con it's time to repair what went astray and submit for Centurion! wooooo

A bit, but not too awful; I'm running the mic on a push-to-talk and the fans have an on-off switch in the back of the helmet. I also don't leave the fans running non-stop, just when I get overheated or need to combat some claustrophobia from feeling my warm breath in the bucket. If you're running fans 24/7 (Arizona troopers, for example ) you might want to go the route of a throat mic to avoid interference.

They work great! I would suggest not using rubber gloves at all for Trooping though, as Nomex gloves are sooo much more comfortable, and also work on smartphones.

Cricket's RS Stunt Build (for the Vertically Challenged)
Alay replied to Cricket's topic in ANH Build Threads
That movie chestpiece looks like it's snapped. Some of the costumes got very damaged during shooting because the stuff doesn't take falling down hard too well. Cricket, you're doing amazing! The pieces aren't too large to hot water bath... What I did was tie them how I wanted them using string to "squeeze" the sides in, put it in my sink, then slowly pour a pot of boiling water of them. Rather than a "direct" bath. You just need to be careful of spot-warping. -
Lets fix those darn rotating shoulders. From the EIB thread: First thing I should note is my shoulders are naturally rolled in like that, so best we can do is try to bandaid the problem a bit The bicep change below helped it as well, but the major change was shortening up the elastic strap at the top. New ones on top, old ones below That seemed to mostly do the trick... now for the biceps. From EIB submission: I don't know if you noticed by I have TINY arms! The biceps move around a ton... First thing I did here was cut out a nice sized chunk of foam (you can get this stuff cheap at Joann Fabrics) and added velcro to it. I cut a similarly sized piece and added it to the inside of the bicep Without undersuit it has a nice light snugness to it. With the undersuit on it sits quite snug and doesn't move much; perfect! Finally, for tomorrow I've decided to use a small mic inside the helmet instead of my normal throat mic. I think the throat mic distortion is a tad too high (or at least my husband says so anyways...) Velcros right in and doesn't get in the way. I'll be using it with the iComm and a PTT cable ran to my arm tomorrow. All together! Right side still needs a little bit of work, but the left is on point.

First problem; my butt is weirdly shaped and slides under the thighs Cricket pointed this one out first. As you may remember from previously, I cut the width of the butt plate but did nothing with the vertical size. Using my husband's AP butt plate as a guide (which is trimmed to full out of the box size currently) I figured out some "rules" about the shape of the butt. For example, the side after the last angled taper is 3 inches down from the return edge. So I marked that area Mirroring these marks on both sides (and adding a bit of eye balling... not ashamed to say!) I cut along these paths and recreated much of the shape of the original piece: Here's my butt piece put inside my husbands so you can see the difference in sizes: We need to take come off the back of the thighs too, but that will have to wait for another day... Here's it suited up!

Wooo got my level 2! Along with some great feedback from Ukswrath Lets get to work on fixing it up for Level 3 and for the convention tomorrow!

TK-20466 requesting ANH Stunt EIB status [AP] [636]
Alay replied to Alay's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Thanks!!! I will definitely be making those adjustments and submitting for Centurion! Thanks again for taking the time Ukswrath! What's the suggestion for fixing the shoulder bells? They seem to "roll" forward... should I add straps to the chest and back too so they don't move with wear? Or keep them centered on the biceps better somehow? @Sam Crow; They're decals. You can get stencils though for painting. -
