My JoeR CfO ROTJ build
sskunky replied to iconoclasta_88's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I think the teeth are open to artistic license. Just go with what you feel comfortable with. I trim mine quite large as that's what joe said his was like and I've seen a couple of screen grabs like that and exhibition suits...... Cheers for the glue tip... I take it is contact adhesive.... -
I just put a buyer beware notice on my auction warning people not to by them from "Propsplus" as they are recasts of mine. Not a lot else I can do really....
-
What makes me laugh is that he is selling copies of my mic tips not direct copies of originals. I tried to explain that if a fraudster is to copy a masterpiece he would copy the original not a fake. He can't understand that mine are unique and I made them that way on purpose. Just for the reason I've pointed out here.
-
Thanks guys, This guy really is a piece of work! He's know saying I'm calling his dead father a liar! And that I recast his mic tips. You've Gotta laugh. I just got this retaliation.
-
I think I did document this somewhere. When I first met AA many years ago as he was just starting out he gave me a few pairs of his mic tips with the view of me improving on his design. But as he had had the tools made for injection moulding at considerable cost he didn't bother. Pretty much like how he used my E11 parts for his blasters but didn't listen to me about making them more accurate!..... He always knows best. So I kept my improved design of the outer tip and that is what I offer today. The innerds are my own sculpt and always have been. They differ slightly to the originals but are close. All these tells are unique to my tips and you won't find them the same anywhere else. That's how I know he recast mine. Now you know my little tells.....
-
Check out the similarity between his and mine! Mine have a tell on them. Look at the HOVI PA2 writing.... It's in the middle of the fins..... All others have it in line with the Fins.... and hi copys...

The front some people have!!! I just got this back from Kevin! He's accusing me of recasting his mic tips! Hi, Thanks for reaching out. These can not be yours. My set was passed down to me from my Father, who purchased the Plumbing Aerator overseas back in the 80s. You do know that the Mic tip used in the original Star Wars movies were Plumbing Aerators, right? Glad you took the time to carve out a duplicate, but I promise you, these are the original. I will not take them down. I have been selling them for years. They are not a copy of yours. If anything, you, and everyone else selling them, copied my Fathers. Kevin

Ha Ha .... There are loads of these but this is definitely one of the best..... cheers Paul....

Hi guys, I have found a recaster on ebay that is selling direct recasts of my mic tips! Does anyone know who he is? http://cgi.ebay.co.u...e#ht_1587wt_902 I would like to get him to stop.... Maybe if enough people badger him he might give in.... I also sell these on ebay, trooperbay and I know Mike sells them on ebay too (with my blessing). I have messaged this guy to ask him to take them down but not heard anything as yet and probably won't.... Any insight would be appreciated. Cheers troopers! UPDATE! I've just found someone else recasting my mic tips and he's in the UK. Some people! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Screen-Accurate-Stormtrooper-Helmet-Hovi-Mix-Pa2-hollow-cast-Mic-tips-/221407542442?pt=UK_Collectables_SciFi_fantasyCollectables_EH&hash=item338ceafcaa http://resintrooperhelmets.weebly.com/accessories.html Decide for yourself? Mine I've asked him to remove them but not feeling hopeful. As he's selling recanted resin helmets too. UPDATE 2 I've been assured that he will take down the auction and destroy the moulds. His Intension was not to rip anyone off. UPDATE 3 He has relisted them! Bombard him with messages of concern please.

Bloody Hell! I must have had my head in the sand. I missed the announcement of your retirement Paul! Thanks mate for all you support and help over the years. It's been a pleasure. Without this place, help and support CFO wouldn't be here now...... Cheers buddy, you deserve a good rest! Mark.

My JoeR CfO ROTJ build
sskunky replied to iconoclasta_88's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Juan, That looks great! I agree with what Joe said about the eyes and frown. When trimming the eyes just make sure when looking at it straight on you don't see any flashing.....It's minor trimming as they don't look bad at all. Saying that the colour is good. Satin black is what you should have used and it looks like you did...... What glue did you use on the inside to add that old yellow look? I might have to nick that idea from you!!! I like the metalizing touch on the tips.... Very good! I might nick that idea too! What did you do..... dry brush? -

Childrens stormtrooper suit
sskunky replied to troopermaster's topic in The Foundry - Armor and Prop Making
Paul, you can form on The Acrystal Prima. I have been using these moulds since I started and they are still the same! It has a good heat and moisture resistance. I dug the info out for you...... You might find it interesting. http://www.benam.co.uk/images/uploads/product_files/PRIMA-TECH.pdf You must go through a hell of alot of filler!!! -

Paul, This looks great. Are you using body filler for the moulds? I'm always interested in mould building, I've used so many different materials. I used a resin plaster called Acrystal Prima on my ROTJ moulds. It ain't cheap but it is nice to carve and shape. It comes out super smooth. I did degas the plaster in a vacuum chamber to rid it of bubbles. You can paint it into a moulds the slush cast a few layers then mix it with fiberglass strand and build it up like a mad pie type thing. Then you get hollow moulds but with high strength. Then make fiberglass moulds using a tight pull in 3mm HIPS of the plaster tool as the mould.... -
Hi guys and gals...... I thought as I had a Disney tour suit and it has the left shin that my armour and any other ROTJ derived armour is missing that I would take them apart and cast it up. It wasn't easy taking them apart but a bit of perseverance and I got them done. I have dammed them up and ready to pour in some plaster to take a mould. I have extended the bottoms as they were cut short for the Star Wars Disney dancing! There will be excess cast so I can reshape the bottoms once they come out. As they are cheap casting plaster they will be easy to reshape and carve into the correct shape. Once I have them in good shape I can vacform them in a nice thick HIPs and fiberglass some new moulds..... Then I will at last have both sides to the shins on my armour. If these turn out good the I may well do the forearms. I might do them anyway as I'm working on the shins....... Oooohhhh....... I almost forgot I will be doing the shoulder bells too..... Some of you might find this interesting..... The first picture of this venture isn't too exciting to say the least but I'll post as I go ....More to come.

Some of the detonator details are longer and thinner than others. The thinner ones are more like the ANH and the fatter seem to be only in ROTJ. The thinner ones I think are formed using the terminal that Paul posted but the fatter ones I think are made differently. I modelled mine after the fatter one pictured in the blurry pic above.....

This is a bit blurry but I think this is a different type detail on the detonator of this Death Star Trooper....

People will tell you differently but I think the return edge is open to artistic license and a comfort thing. If you look at the screen used suits some have return edges in parts others don't. Some have the back top of the calves cut away, some don't. That can be said of the arms too. I think the main large torso parts all had an edge to them but it really depends how big your arms and legs are as to what trimming or edge you have. That's my opinion.
