  1. It's great stuff and glad to see others using it. I never use anything else!
  2. Just the same as I use.......
  3. He's telling the truth. It is cast from my JoeR Helmet. He doesn't even lie about it.
  4. I'm so over it. That was so earlier today. Life's too short.
  5. Hot glue is not permanent. It will peel off the abs quite easily. Just make sure you use a low heat gun.
  6. This is such a grey area and I know some people class us all as recasters. What I don't get is these very people are members of the replica community and fuel this very thing. If it wasn't for people like me spending thousands of pounds and getting to know the people that have access to original props and moulds there would be no screen accurate props cast from originals. At best you would have fan sculpted or licensed props and we all know with the exception of a very few talented people what we would all be running around in! I don't just offer Stormtrooper armour, I try and offer a range of fine quality replicas from cult movies. If you have ever seen my other props you will know what I mean. Someone posted on my facebook page basically saying I was no better than the person that recast me and that I should step down from my moral high ground! This is someone that is a collector and maker of replica props! Well all I can say is good luck in your collection, you obviously don't care for any screen lineage. I feel quite passionate about this topic as I go to a lot of trouble to offer what I do. I have never recast anyone to my knowledge apart from TMs handguards when we first started as I was told by the person I got them from that they were from an original pair! LOL so out of respect to Paul I sculpted my own even though he graciously gave me permission to use them. If I am going to be branded a recaster for moulding and casting production made items I may as well stop what I am doing and move along.........
  7. Yes, the screen used helmets and armour are injection moulded. A lot of the props are also printed. There has been a lot of problems with the armour and props due to them not being particularly hard wearing. Great start to a great project. They are a lot wider than most believe.
  8. No real cool story behind mine..... I used to be a bit of a smoker.....of the finer variety...
  9. Thanks chaps. It was only a matter of time.
  10. Hi everyone Just thought I would spread the news that the tosser named makerofthings! Has recast my Rotj JoeR helmet and is openly selling his cheap HIPs recasts on eBay. He even tells people what they are cast from if you ask. ---------- Not much I can do about it but feel free to message him with your concerns of his blatant recasting. Thanks peeps. Mark.
  11. If you are building Rotj then you can as the stunt Endor troopers were very dirty. Just not in a Sandy way. I see no problem with clearance if it's a representation of a screen accurate trooper.
  12. OK, I didn't need to put anything on the page other than the web address! It's working now I think
  13. Score and snap tutorial added..... If anyone knows how I add a video to the page rather than just a link please let me know! many thanks,
  14. Nice work. Looking forward to seeing tomorrow.
  15. You don't have to pre wet the two parts. Clamp them together and put the solvent to the seam. It will soak in and bond them.
  16. Looks like you've got it covered on the thighs.....Too be honest I have only ever assembled the armour as standard so have never had to mod one.
  17. Well it definately looks better in fit. the bottom certainly sits better as does the top They seem to sit better overall.
  18. NICE
  19. Lol, I missed that bit. I thought he was talking about a normal helmet. I hadn't realised it was one of those helmets!
  20. No the back n cap is one part, faceplate another and the ears. The same as ANH but ROTJ are glued whereas ANH are screwed together. No helmet with screen lineage has the cap and back in separate pieces.
  21. Unless you are building a ROTJ helmet they are not glued at all.......
  22. Yes, I understand that Vern, I was being sarcastic.
  23. I don't think that's you Vern, it a couple of faceplates!
  24. Vern has a few good points..... HIPS won't actually absorb moisture from the air. Only ABS will you need to heat if it's been sitting for more than a couple of days. If you are storing it in a heated house it's not so much of a problem. Heating the moulds a bit will help to a certain extent but if we are to get technical it's probably better to mention the rooms ambient temperature as that has a big play in your forming too. The main problem is when you apply the vacuum you also remove air from the room and move it about and this all affects the way plastic forms....To have a perfect forming room the air has to be controlled too. Forming is a lot more complicated than it looks when you start to get into it......as for blowing off the mould you will need a compressor and high pressure blasts will help.....or a vacuum table that has a blowback system built in...... To remove the plastic it's best to do it when the plastic is still warm.... Cold will tend to make the plastic brittle....depending again on how hot you got the plastic to start with..... It's good to experiment on what timing you heat the plastic for.... a second or two can and will make a difference. Another way is to have a mould that collapses... There are various ways to approach this... You can have a sliding mould where the pieces slide together and can be solid or you go for the plug method of silicone moulds that have a plug you pull from the inside and the outer mould then collapses and pulls out easily.... You can even reverse vacuum form by having a negative female mould and suck the plastic into rather than over....Mould making is an art form in itself......
  25. I can tell you that he is a nice guy but with no morels when it comes to recasting other people's work. All he has ever done is recast other makers armour and helmets. Makerofthings translates to Makerofotherpeoesthings! Yes your armour is cast from an original set a few generations removed. He used to recast TE then CAP now it looks like RS. There are only two makers currently selling armour cast from original. That's myself of which is ROTJ and RS which is ANH. I'm the only one that currently sells "cast from original" ROTJ so no real confusion there. ANH is another story. There is loads of history on here but most ANH armour apart from TM, RS and a few other fan sculpts derive from ROTJ armour re engineered to look ANH and started out as TE then recast by CAP who gave permission for all to recast which gave way for a multitude of offshoots. It's complicated. So bottom line is that makerofthings sells recasts of other vendors armour and helmets.
