My first build - ROTJ Trooper
sskunky replied to Disco's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
If you sand the ends of the grey tube to taper them a bit like sharpening a pencil. Then you can slip the caps on and push them in. They will be tight. I will be making a new mould for these as I have found a metal pipe 1-2mm larger. This will make the caps slip on easier. But not until I'm in my new workshop. I have plenty of mould improvements to make on a lot of the moulds. Just don't have the time or space at the mo to do it. -

@Stuart, Get yourself a flat round tipped paint brush from an art store. It will make life easier getting the roundness to the ends on the frown and vocoder. -

That's alright then! -
My main point is that Anovos came from the very community they are so quick and ready to slag off.
-
Luckily for us our courts don't rewrite the law to suit whoever has the most money.
-
A bit rich considering half of Anovos came from the replica prop forum. Now they are paying shed loads on licences they have to slag us passionate small guys off. We are just as passionate about materials, products and customer service as you ANOVOS! We don't have to pay large licensing fees as they are out of copyright. Not our fault LFL forgot to put an artistic licence on them! Grow up springs to mind.

The mic tips are only hard because you added the soaked material to the inside. I have never done this as the originals never did. If you hadn't then you can screw the nut and washer on the inside tight against the mic tip kinda squashing them together. You can't do that as you have a solid area now. -

You should be able to see a feint line to trim to. Anything curling up on the back n cap gets trimmed off and you can trim fairly close to the three lines running from the chin detail. -

Acetone will soften superglue but not sure you want to be rubbing that on the abs. I use a liquid solvent for all the abs parts. The only place I use superglue is to hold the internal strapping in place before coating it with stelmax. BTW don't use superglue on the bubble lenses it will cause the acrylic to fog up. -
I think it's a bit wrong to take people's money on the pemise that they will be getting ABS only to be told it's now PVC? I thought RS stopped PVC due to problems with it?

Left side is a bit trickier due the the back of the faceplate tube being a bit rough. I may smooth it out on the mould one day but that's how it was straight out of the mould of the of the Oakley helmet. -

Good to see those ratchet clamps. Nothing beats those. -

How much have you got on the top of the face plate? You can trim it down to about 1 1/2-2" this may help in getting the the orientation better. I don't glue the forehead or brow. I use ratchet clamps. The large ones I feed through the eyes and clamp the ear areas. Then manipulate the it so no gaps and use small Ratchet clamps to grip the bottom of the two halves so no gaps. It takes a bit of wrestling but I have always got them together with no gaps showing. The ears will cover to a certain extent. -
White paint of screen used helmets

I would go with Appliance white..... most hardware store will sell it..... It's not a cold white more warm..... I am sure others with more ANH background will chime in but I used that on my old ESB lid and it looked great. -

They are completely asymmetric. So if it looks wonky it looks right...... Trust me. Once you have it assembled put it up to a mirror and have a look at the shape then... You will be amazed how wrong it looks as we are used to the orientation of the asymmetry we see normally..... Try it! -

Just twist the faceplate round a bit so that both sides meet together. If you haven't trimmed too much it should fit together.Clamp one side then the other -

You can take more out of the eyes and a little more out the teeth too. I'll post a pic up of the one in building today when I get back in. -
The gloss ones were a pretty close match to the pinseal ones I make now. The Satin smooth ones were a little whiter and would need painting but you should get away with the gloss.
