Hey All, I was just wondering if there are any fat stormtroopers out there? I'm almost done with FX kit. When test fitting the ab/back & chest/back, it didn't sit right. I need to add some velcro to the inside of each plate & attach some elastic to keep the parts pulled together. Hopfully this will work. The back is the real problem. I made some strap tabs to attach my suspenders too. But when I did this it stuck out too far. So I cut small slits into the armor directly(Like my skinny wife's armor) to attach the suspender clamps too. But this is where I saw the main problem. You can see the suspender clamps If the clamps are still visable when completed, I may have too turn my TK into a TD. The backpack would hide this problem. So my question is to all the chubby stormies out there. Do you have any pics of yourselves in costume? I'm 5'8 & 240lbs Maybe it's time too go on diet

Berlin's New Sandtrooper Armor
Chunk replied to Chunk's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
You are correct the theigh strap should be black. But I painted them when I was weathering the armor. Im going to remove them on my next weekend & attach black tab/snap straps. -
Here are some pics of my wife "Berlin"'s new Sandtrooper costume. I spent 12hrs painting & sanding yesterday. We tried on the armor to see where I need to make improvments. Found a couple & will correct soon. Next week Im starting on her backpack. We're getting ready for San Diego Comic Con

Walmart has it in the craft section. The first time I went to Walmart I missed it. I was looking in the adhesive sction in the hardware department.

I thought it was Republic Commando armor just in black, & since they were now fighting for the Empire, they called them selves Imperial Commandos

Thanks for the help Panda. Both legs are done. The sniper plate was very easy to install.

Does anyone have a close up pic of "Their" front & side of the right knee "gas cylinders"? In some pictures I see that the lower belt corners have a rounded corner. My FX kit is older & I don't think it has enough excess plastic to hold on if I was to make the rounded corner.

modded rubies supream tk armor
Chunk replied to TOM R's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
It's too bad that most unsuspecting fans think that the Rubbies is a great costume. The picture on the box looks nothing like what you get once it's opened. The pieces are all warped & sit wrong when wearing it. I saw this thing in person when it first came out. It looked horrible Grandma or Mom don't knnow about the nicer cheaper kits out there when they buy lil Jimmy a stortrooper costume. -
Hey Hawkeye, One thing I would reccomend is changeing out that old brown masking tape for some new blue or green painters tape. The old stuff will leave a nasty residue. You'll have to remove it with WD-40 or some mild detergent. I found this out the hard way. I had taped all the pieces together just like you with regular masking tape. I had to spray the WD-40 onto a napkin & rub gently to remove the residue. I did this over the sink so I could rinse it off quickly if needed. I have an older FX kit. The WD-40 did not hurt my plastic. It even left a shiny sheen. I know this was not what you were looking for. But Im doing my legs right now too. I was looking for useful information to help me. But Im on the right leg & need help with the "gas cylinder" belt. So Im off to find useful information

Maybe I should have said this in the beguining. I have an FX kit that I bought back in 2007. I have made no modifications to the theigh as of yet. I slide it into position & hold it while walking around. The length seems to be good. The only problem I see is. I will have to dremmel the back just a bit for comfort. I get "armor bite" on the backside of my knee.

Ok, then it sits right. The bottom edge of my theigh sits right across my knee
-
Hello, Im almost done with my TK legs. Im ready to attach the "gas charges" belt on the right knee. But Im not sure where the bottom of the theigh should sit. Right now if I slide the theigh all the way up into wearable position. The bottom of the theigh rides right on my knee. Is this correct, or should it be above my knee? Need to know before I drill my hole & attach incorrectly.

I used E6000 on the front of my theighs. But for the back I had to make shims. So I used velcro on these. I applied the velcro to the shim & can attach at will. If I gain or loose wight I can change the shim out for a better fitting one.

Another useful tip Evike.com or airsoftgi.com will have the mich pad knock offs for cheap

Started making the shims out of the trash can. MEDIC! Got a blister cutting the trash can up. After all the shims were cut to size & shape. I used a dremel to score the sides where I'll attach the velcro to the plastic. I have industrial strength velcro with the sticky back. Is this strong enough to hold to the armor, or should I lay down a bead of E6000 to secure it?

FREE T-Track C/O World Cup
Chunk replied to tk7713gra30's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I see those laying on the side of road all the time. Especially around a major sporting event time. The basketball finals should be finishing up.I should start seeing more of them soon. I'll have to stop & pick them up now. The clamp that holds them to the window must get weak with the constant wind blowing & they snap off at the base. I'll keep my eye out for sure now -
Right now CABoots.com has factory seconds on sale for $50.00. But only has limited sizes. ----------

DOH! I forgot about the smell. Yes the CA smell FOREVER! The TK's smell like new leather. One thing that I forgot to mention is price. The TK cost $49.00 + $13.00sh CA were $70.00 + $18.00sh. Also the shipping is much faster with TK. A friend of mine ordered his CA about 3 days before I placed my order. He's still waiting for his boots. Mine were ordered on Sun May 30,10 & delivered on June 2,10. I would have had them a day earlier, but Monday was Memorial Day(No Mail Delivered)

My dog loves my boots

Comparison is up. I forgot to mention. The dog is super cute. He's a "real" ARFtrooper -
Here is a comparrison between TKBoots & CABoots. Both are a size 10. Looking at the pictures, the TKBoot is on the right side.(Except the rear faceing. I accidently switched boots) Both are very true to sizing. I wear a mens size 10 police or military work boot & both fit great toe wise. The TK is a lil narrow on the sides. But being leather they should strech & become more comfortable with each wearing. The TK is real leather & has a dull or "mate" finish. The CA is patent leather with a glossy finish. The TK is about a half inch shorter in height than the CA. The TK has a plain front & has no seams running down. The CA has one slanted seam down the front & then inward to the ankle. On the rear the TK has a leather strip with two seams. The CA just has one seam running down without the extra material in the back. Both have the elastic sides, & the heals are almost identical. To me both were about the same comfort wise.
