  1. Well I looked over my boots this am. Flexed here & there & no paint came off. So maybe this lite coats & 12hr dry time will work. Just means it will take 10 days to paint my boots
  2. Well I used the lite coat with the 12hr+ dry time. I looked over the boots & flexed here & there. Paint stayed on. So maybe this lite coat, 12hr thing will work. just means it will take 10 days to paint my boots
  3. I contacted the manufacturer today. They suggested stripping the boot down to bare leather or using a lite coat of paint with a 12hr dry time in between. I tried stripping the boot best I could. used more of the color prep, then used acetone & even tried gasoline on one of the heels. Let me just say that black is staying on there. So I went with option #2 I sprayed a lite coat on the boot & will let it set for over 12hrs. At this rate Im lucky if I can get 2 coats a day. Been cool in the mornings, so prob will have to settle for 1 coat a day.
  4. Bought the Nu-Life spray paint. Used several lite coats, 10-12 with 20-30min in between coats & they came out really good. Left them overnight in the garage. Next morning I put my hand in the shaft to look them over. Where ever the boot flexed, the paint cracked. I contacted the manufacture & they said. The leather has to be cleaned almost to bare leather & it requires 12hrs in between paintings. Neither is mentioned in the instructions or thier website. Took me all day to remove all the paint. Will attempt again after an aceton bath
  5. Ok I have another thread here with my progress & failures. Can anyone help out with the preping of the boots before painting? I contacted the manufacture & they suggested cleaning the boot almost down to the bare leather. Or letting a dry time of 12hrs in between each coat. Neither is suggested on the instructions or mentioned here on the FISD. I removed all the paint from the boots. Im gonna run to Walmart to get some aceton & rub the boots down with that. So can some of you that have painted your boots help me out. I'd really like to know how you pained your boots & what process did you do before painting. I used Melatonan Nu-Life Spray Paint & Nu-Life Color Prep. ----------
  6. All the paint is removed. Wearing them around the house to break them in. Will apply 2-3 coats tomorrow with at least an hour dry time in between.
  7. Ughhhh ran in to a problem, Paint didn't stick. I will spend the day scraping off all the paint. The only place the paint stuck was on the rubber sole. I will write the company & see what they say. The paint did not stick anywhere! The boots looked really good, so I stuck my hand in the shaft to look them over. Thats when I noticed the paint start to crack where ever the boot flexed. So I knew it was a no go. I put them on & walked arond the driveway for few mins. Everywhere the boot flexed the paint came off. I will scrape off all the paint & walk around the house a few times. Maybe the paint will stick better to a worn in boot. I will try one more time. I think this time I will spray 1 lite coat a day. Anyone have any ideas?
  8. Same boots. I bought mine from the TKBoots website a few years ago. I bought my wife these boots from Ebay last week. Both boxes have the sme shipping address. Gotta say best shipping in the buisness. Ordered them 6am & received the next day 3pm
  9. Here are the boots with about 10-12 coats. I've looked at them in direct sunlight & outdoors in the shade. Seems the whole boot is the same shade of white & I'm happy with them. I will let them dry overnight. Tomorrow I will add the dog bone & toe trim.
  10. Here's the boots so far. The first 4 pics are of the boots with one coat of paint. The pic with both boots in frame have about 5 coats on them. I will add a couple more coats as there is about 1/4 can of paint left. I bought 4 cans to start with, didn't want to run out. I also bought 3 jars of Color-Prep & used about 3/4 of 1 jar on the boots. So Im thinking for those of you who want to repilcate my work. 2 cans of Nu-Life White spray paint & 1 jar of Nu-Life Color-Prep should work fine.
  11. Color Prep on, rubbed the whole boots several times. Dries very quickly. I noticed on one of the boots there was a tiny circle of leather comming up. Barley noticable, but I know it's there. So being the perfectionist I am I decided to glue it. I was gonna use superglue. But I figured E6000 would be better since it's flexable. Now I gotta wait for that to dry. Like I said it' so small, probably already dry. But I will have some luch & paint the boots when I get back. I would have taken pics of the boots after the color prep was applied. But there was no real diffrence when I stood in direct sun light. So the next pics will be of 1st coat of white paint. Stay Tuned.........
  12. That will work fine. My first undersuit was a diveskin. Let me tell you, it was freaking hot! I have since changed to an Under Armor type 2pc. I get them at Walmart for around $12 each piece. I belive they are Starter brand. Same as Under Armor, just waaaaay cheaper.
  13. Alexey keep an eye out on your emails. Another guy asked for a specific size & received an email saying they were out of stock. Then the next day or so he received another email saying a pair was found & they were his if he still wantd the.
  14. i already have the shoe paint. Bought 4 large cans of NU-Life White. Just not sure how to use the prep. No directions on the bottle. Was wondering if I should use a little all over the boot & repeate. Or is alot better as to where the boot is saturated with color prep?
  15. I read some where on here that they are considering making the Ralph McQuarrie "concept stormtrooper" 501st approvable. How is a concept being considered but not an actual stormtrooper that is seen multiple times & has a speaking part not approvable?
  16. Hello All, Just wanna consult the experts here before I attempt my project. I will be painting 16" tall black engineer boots white to turn them into Biker Scout Boots. I know they will not be screen acurate. I will add the "dog bone" to each boot & paint the soles a tan color. But living in 110' summers the glue on my scout boots is starting to come off. Since everyone over in the BSN reccomends Marcell for boots or a tutorial on how to make your own. I'm back to my original problem. Hot temp & glue not mixing. So I wanted to get your help with painting the all black boots white. I purchased Nu-Life White Spray Paint & Nu-Life Color Prep. I know how to use the paint, but I've never used the color prep. Do I just use a towel, rag, or a make up wedge to apply. Do I saturate the boot, or use in lite coats. Will the boot turn white or ashy with application(kinda a drying out) Just wanna get this right as it being a huge project. Will post before & after pics. Here's the boots new out the box. -------------
  17. Nice, Im tinking of turning one wall into an armory wall. Was thinking of making Death Star corridor wall. I've always likes the gray & long oval lights.
  18. Thanks Guys. Soon as I get some time I will take some pics with it in costume in the woods. I have a lifesize Ewok, prob take some with him too.
  19. There used to be a area for weapons not specific to the Imperial Stormtrooper. I wanted to share my Concept Biker Socut Carbine. I used a Hasbro Ultimate Clone Blaster as the base. I replaced the original stock with a Nerf N-Strike collapsable stock. I decided to keep the scope, but added the insides of a small pop up sprinkler, plexiglass lense. The rear eye piece has a plexiglass lense with an inner lense with crosshairs made out of a 7-Up bottle. I also added some brass knobs as windage/elivation knobs. I attached the stock to the original stock opening with a PVC brace & pvc glue. Sanded the whole thing & used an air compressor to blow off all the particles. Next I used apx 3 coats of gray primer followed by 5 coats of silver paint & finally 3 coats of flat black. Next I gently sanded the entire gun hitting the edges & where I wanted battle damge to show a lil harder. then wiped the whole thing down with a wet hot water towel. I chose to keep the original scope & magazine because they make noise when removed or reattached. I love the reloading sound it makes. Here's a couple pics of what I started with & the completed blaster.
  20. Ordered some TKBoots off Ebay yesterday morning around 6am. They arrived today at 3pm
  21. I ordered a pair off Ebay today. Already shipped. Should have them by Friday. TKBoots is selling few odd ball sizes there.
  22. Just picked up a new pair size 6 TKBoots from Ebay. These will be my wifes, so worked out perfectly. Few odd ball sizes left, but going fast.
  23. I just thinks it BS that this guy will take your $1000 & not take a few mins to update you & why can't he be upfront & let people know that it will take almost a year & half to make your armor. Which is BS. If I was paid $1000 to make something I would do it as soon as possible. I know it does not take weeks to pull a kit. My friend here in town & here on the FISD can pull several kits in one day. We all knw real world problems do happen. But a lil 3 line email would solve everyones worries. It's the same with all armor makers & everyone just deals with it. ohh he's the best in the bussiness, good things come to those who wait, can't rush perfection...ect if we all stopped sending this guy & others like him our hard earned cash things would get better. Sorry to hijack, but this stuff erks me. This poor guy was told "DL" was the best & was lead to belive he would have product within a reasonable time frame. I bet he's still waiting for his kit.
