CRL and EIB Application Requirements All required photos are now in and, after review, we are pleased to welcome you to Expert Infantry rank. On behalf of the DO team and myself, congratulations Trooper! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly In this area we review observations made by your fellow troopers and the DO team. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions. We know you jumped through quite a few hoops on this one, and we appreciate it! Below are some suggested items to make that set of armor look even better, sir. As seen in the reference images, the center of the ear should ideally sit directly below the rear angle of the trap above it, and the screws should closely line up with that angle as well. Moving the tops forward would give you a much sharper and screen accurate look. Reference images The thickness of the outlines is spot-on, but we are recommending that you extend the overall size to better fill in the traps. Reference images Nice job on those shims!! While some overlap is expected, it appears that yours may be able to be trimmed back some, and not sit under the ab plate as much. Reference images A simple strapping issue here: The top of your posterior plate is riding out quite a bit farther than we like to see, and should line up closer with the bottom of the kidney. Reference images The positioning of the thigh ammo pack is great, but the rivets are a lot closer to the corner than they should be. Although the rivet type used is certainly acceptable, the diameter looks to be a bit larger than 5/16 (8mm). Reference images As noted in the reference images, the angle on the side(s) of the sniper knee are sharper. 2 minutes with a Dremel or file would take care of this! Reference images It's just a small detail, but we are suggesting that you move your Hengstler counter forward a bit. The rear should sit centered above the folding stock bolt below it. Reference image Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. More photos may be requested in the future that allow us to make better decisions on possible adjustments. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here. Because Centurion photos show much more detail than EIB, items to pertaining to Centurion might be seen there and not here. We try to point out all that we can from what is seen, but the final accuracy is the responsibility of the trooper. Normally, a small amount of excess brow trim is listed in the suggestions area above, but unfortunately yours is closer to half an inch too long on each side. 10 (careful) seconds with a razor knife and you are golden... EASY fix! Reference images As stated in the CRL, the tube stripes are located approximately a pencil width from the cheek. Reference images They may very well be present and just not seen, but for Level 3 the shoulder straps "need to held down in the back via a white elastic band to the white fabric that connects/bridges the chest and back piece". Reference images You have some pretty big guns there, brother, but we are asking that the shoulder bells be brought in some more. Ideally, the tops of the bells should touch the shoulder bridge, and while we understand that not all troopers can get that close, in looking at the height of your bicep armor, it looks like you could do this and not have a gap between them. Reference image Reference image Nice work on that shim, sir, but before you get ready to submit for Level 3, we will need ya' to fill the seam with ABS paste and make it disappear as much as possible. Reference images As mentioned in your thread, the "Han" snap needs to be moved a lot closer to the edge. Reference images Last up is a common issue we see, where the outside edges of the drop boxes don't line up the outer edge of the ABS belt, Some E-6000 on the rear of the straps would keep those devils in place. Reference images And that's it, brother. Do you have some work ahead of you? Indeed. Do I have every confidence that you can do it? Of COURSE! Thanks again for really stepping up to the plate on the fixes and extra photos, and now it's time to get ready for Centurion!

Always great to see another well built set of armor come though, and yours is no exception! I can tell that you have really paid attention to many of the small details that we look for, and it shows, so well done! Not too many items to go over, but after seeing your mad build skills I feel you can handle the items listed below and make this set of AM look truly spectacular, so let's get started, brother.. 1. I see this once in a while where the bucket sits kinda' high in comparison with many seen in the film(s) While certainly not a deal breaker for Level 3, it is probably due to the padding in the top of the helmet. I had this exact same issue on my first submission, and I was constantly tilting my bucket forward just to be able to see. I removed the padding from the top and lo and behold... problem solved! Reference images 2. This may be a tough one, but the lines around your side and rear traps are pretty thick in comparison to those seen onscreen. If you need some help on how to remedy this without peeling off the decals just PM me. Reference image Reference image 3. Just a simple dressing issue here. In the first photo, the thighs line up at the cod opening, but in the second pic the right one is about an inch off. The ones onscreen were all over the place, lol, but we prefer the "ideal" look. Side note: If you hear a "clicking" noise when you walk from the tops of the thighs hitting the cod area, they can be trimmed down and will still be screen accurate. 4. The angle of the top part is spot-on, but we suggest that you trim down the lower part(s) of the sniper knee plate to where they line up with the ridges of the upper calf. 5 minutes with a Dremel (or file) and you are golden! Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. More photos may be requested in the future that allow us to make better decisions on possible adjustments. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here. Because Centurion photos show much more detail than EIB, items to pertaining to Centurion might be seen there and not here. After seeing this build, I get the feeling that you actually have the 1/4" elastic that is required on the rear of the shoulder straps, but unfortunately it's just not clearly visible in the photos and is a requirement for Level 3. 2. There's no doubt that Quest Design makes a top quality blaster, but your Hengstler counter is sitting too low and will need to be both raised and leveled out to better match those seen onscreen. This will require you to disassemble the scope rail and adjust the bracket that holds it on there, but I have the feeling that you will jump on this. And that's it, Shawn! Nothing listed above that you can't handle, brother. You will be a part of the "Original 1000" EI's, and I hope to see your Level 3 submission soon so that you can be one the "Original 500" Centurions!

  10. You are definitely starting out on the right foot, Paul. And by that I mean being organized! (I'm kinda' OCD when it comes to that, lol). Great to see that you started a build thread, and the one main suggestion I can offer at this point is to ask questions if you have any doubts about a particular issue before cutting or gluing... and add photos. Lots of em'. No question is "too small" and there's no such thing as too many pics. Trust me.

Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions Just a few items here, sir, and some are just basic fitment issues. On that note, lets get started! 1. In looking at the distance between your bucket and shoulder straps, it seems that the padding inside the top may be causing this. I had foam pads in my first helmet, but found that it sat too high and I was constantly tilting it forward just to be able to see (our field of vision is not that good to begin with, lol). I removed it, and voila! Reference images 2. Being as we are ambiguous soldiers of the Empire, our faces should remain anonymous. On that note, we are suggesting that a piece of black window screen be glued behind your frown . 3. It may be the lighting, but the color of your hand guards looks a bit yellowish in comparison to your armor. I am assuming they are latex, which over time tends to turn that color with age and exposure to UV light. Not a deal-breaker for Centurion, but a coat or two of bright white latex paint would do wonders, and is actually screen accurate. Reference images 4. As seen below, your right forearm is sitting a bit high, causing a gap between the wrist opening and hand guard. We are suggesting that you lower it (and the bicep) a tad. The left bicep could come up about one cm as well. The most important thing is that the gaps on both sides are as close to symmetrical as possible. The rear photo below shows an even greater disparity in the gaps. Reference image Last up, we are highly recommending a haircut for your canvas belt. Some fraying is expected, but 5 minutes with some scissors and a steady hand would make it look much better. Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. More photos may be requested in the future that allow us to make better decisions on possible adjustments. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here. Because Centurion photos show much more detail than EIB, items to pertaining to Centurion might be seen there and not here.   14. Lookin' SHARP, sir! One of us will with you shortly, but in the mean-time I would suggest raising the thigh ammo pack in the front just a bit. Although some Troopers were seen with it lower than others and showed the top of the ridge (photos 2 and 3), none were quite that low or had a gap. EASY fix, sir!

  16. Hi Sergio, Nice job on the fixes so far, and my apologies for the long delay, but there are still a few items that need to be corrected before we can get you to Level 3. Since you used many of the same photos on your Centurion submission as you did on your one for Expert infantry, the issues are still present. This will require you to take all new photos of the issues (examples at bottom of post) after they are corrected so that we can see the finished armor in all it's glory!   17. As Glen mentioned, we will need a few more photos (no need to get suited up). He also pointed out the paint on the teeth. As this is actually a requirement for Basic, we are asking that you spend a few minutes with a cotton swab/toothpick and some (non acetone) paint remover to take a little off the tops, as seen below. Looking forward to seeing the results and new photos so that we can get that EI badge under your name!

  19. Hi Ian, and sorry for the delay. Again, after going over the following items with fellow staff members we have to hold off on your submission for the time being, sad to say. As I mentioned, several of these items were fine in your EI request, but after changing out many of the components they no longer meet the requirements for Centurion level, which is all about the small details. We sincerely hope you can remedy these issues and re-submit soon, and if you require any clarification or need any help, just ask! The base of your helmet has quite a large divot as seen below the rear of the right ear. This can be effectively covered by moving the base of the ear backward, (photo 3 shows another RS helmet to give you an example). Doing this would also move them into a more screen accurate position. Many of the screen used buckets were a little wonky in certain places, but we can find no references showing any with such a large recessed area. Photo 3 Reference images (Note how screws line up with rear trap angle) The "Han" snap will need to be moved farther out toward the edge as seen in the reference images. We are also highly suggesting that you eliminate the overlap of the ab-plate on the right side. Reference images As stated in the CRL, ".. the corners of the plastic ammo belt shall be trimmed at a 45 degree angle that meets the outer edge of the cloth belt". There are 2 ways to go about fixing this.. 1. Get a cloth belt that is a bit narrower, or 2. Get a new ABS belt and leave it a bit wider when trimming in order to get the correct size on the angles (photo 2). Photo 2 Reference images Your shoulder bells will need to adjusted to where the tops are touching (or very close) to the shoulder bridges as seen in your EI submission (photo 2). Photo 2 Below is one more suggestion: Your sniper knee tops could use some trimming to give them more of an angle. EASY fix! Reference images
  20. Hi Stephanie! Although under (compression) suits are readily available at most major sporting good stores, they can be pretty pricey so I would try Amazon. Just search "Ladies black long sleeve compression shirts" and "Ladies black compression suit pants".

  22. I would definitely keep all the return edges on the bottom of the chest, top and bottom of the kidney, top of the posterior (butt) plate and top of the ab plate.

Before you submit for Basic 501st approval, I recommend reading through the CRL here, then on to the overview here and finally, submitting your photos here. That way, we can offer any suggestions that will make your submission go through a lot easier. If I can be of any help, just let me know.
  24. Welcome, Scout! Yeah, I did sort of the same thing... I ordered a kit from ebay before finding out about the 501st/FISD and found that it was not acceptable. Ouch. I would try to sell it on there just to recoup some of your funds, though. To answer a few of your questions: 1. "I have also found on ETSY a 850ArmorWorks. Does anyone know if they are a good set of Armor, I have not seen them listed here at all, but they have kits for $400." 850 is absolutely acceptable when built correctly, but note that is for Rogue One armor (different that A New Hope) and does not include the helmet. 2. "Does anyone know if there are is a site that shows how to build your armor right to Centurion level"? Since we at the FISD are the ones that approve troopers at that level, this is the site you need! A good idea is to look at some of the EI submissions located here, especially those with an approval number after the title. You must achieve Expert Infantry level before applying for Centurion, though, and looking through those will give you good idea of what we look for. If you are going for an OT (Original Trilogy) Trooper (A new Hope/Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi) I have a thread here which will help, as it shows what the various differences not only from the films but in the different levels of accuracy required for advancement.
