  1. My six yr old daughter likes the Wii.
  2. Congrats on the job. "my team is known as the "Jedi Council" and the wditing [my bold] team are the "Imperial Forces." " So, why haven't they put you on the editing team? J/K, couldn't resist. Congrats again. As for a Jedi name... how about spelling "imperial forces" backwards? Lairepmi Secrof? Or is that just too clumsy sounding?
  3. If you have a "business park", "industrial park", etc in your area you might want to check the yellow pages to see if there is a plastics dealer. If you buy it in larger quantities, the price is better anyway.
  4. Although there seems to be some bargaining going on at the time, I think the 50% cut is something of an exaggeration. From what I saw when I did some surfing it looks more like the pay increase that has been tabled is not satisfactory to the union.
  5. Personally, I've never listened to a podcast. It's not something I would even think to do. Mind you, I'm a little behind the times when it comes to tech and stuff.
  6. I'm not a 501st member. I just love the costumes and the idea of building stuff. I started with Vader (in retrospect, I should have started with something EASIER!!), and decided I wanted to have more home-made SW lids and stuff around. I hang out on these forums mainly to learn more about the details of the costumes...and to chat with cool people too, of course.

    Scary!

Evil, I tells ya! My wife's b'day is also on the 22nd.
  8. Depending on the size of the item this is true, but parcels can be costly to ship between Canada and the States. I've done a fair bit of shipping into US from Canada and some of the costs are rather high. After having sent something from Europe to Canada, and then into the US, you're probably looking at prices comparable to just going with the higher priced services out of Europe in the first place. This will not be true of small packets of course.
  9. If you can get some grease solvent that should work. Lighter fluid also dissolves plasticine, but I'm not sure if it will affect the mold.
  10. Those are just funny shaped rocks. Tricks of light and shadow.
  11. Maybe they just sent you the fan kit as a "reminder" and to see if you want to give them money for a new membership.
  12. Interesting. But is it needed to say "Star Wars character"? I mean, why dress up as any character? Robocop? Iron Man? Batman? Pokeman? Winnie the Pooh? A French maid? An early 1900s gentleman? Are the underlying reasons not all the same?
  13. I must say that I have had pretty good luck with people following through on their orders (for which I am very grateful) but I do have a policy of securing an order with a deposit. This ensures that my basic supply costs are covered prior to purchasing what I need to make it. After all, this is a hobby for us all, and sometimes life gets in the way of buying those fun things we really want, but just can't justify letting the bills pile up for.
  14. I always thought it sounded kinda like TCHUNG! TCHUNG! (not to be confused with the smaller blaster sound that is more like TCHUU! TCHUU!)
  15. An interesting bit about "burning the midnight oil": http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/80200.html Phrases and ways of speaking are often changing (at least in English) and are given to having a number of different acceptable "styles" depending on what groups you hang out with. It can be confusing. In fact, even between British English and North American English one can run into interesting differences. Some of them can lead to blushing if taken the wrong way.

    TK Blues

I've been doing this long enough that I no longer tell people what I'm using the stuff for. I might say I'm working with plastic, or with fiberglass, or whatever I'm working with, but that's about it. After the last episode of "whatcha doin' with that?" followed by "eeeeooooookay" I decided it wasn't worth my time to respond to their questions. I'm all for being polite and having a conversation with most people, but when they ask a question about what you are doing and then respond as though you just turned your head around 360 degrees that's their problem, not yours. I know, I'm just adding more rant to your original post. I'm afraid I don't have much else to say really. I also live in a town where many people don't give a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys about SW or the costume/armor hobby. I've known a few people who didn't even recognize Darth Vader, if you can believe that. Meanwhile, 99% of the world seems to be going insane over the Olympics. I really don't understand all the crazy hoopla about sliding down a hill really fast. At least I can honestly say that when people talk to me about the Olympics I try to be polite and show some kind of interest (except with my wife, but she knows how I feel about it - it's kinda like a running joke with us).
  17. I generally don't give much consideration to the prequel trilogy. I guess I'm with Dark-GTI04 in terms of order of preference: The original trilogy, in the order they were released. And if I had to put the prequel trilogy in there I would say episodes III, II and then I, in reverse order. I was 14 when SW first hit the screens in 1977. I feel this was the perfect age for me to have been impressed for life by this amazing movie.
  18. Was this filmed by Roger Patterson?

    New spam

My first instinct is to assume any such message like this is SPAM. In fact, I may have even deleted the occasional legitimate email or PM because I suspected it was spam.
  20. Check out the forums at Telescope Junkies. http://www.telescopejunkies.com/category-view.asp A lot of helpful and experienced telescope users there. I became a member a while back when I decided I want to build a reflector telescope. I haven't started the project yet, for various reasons, but having joined this site I now feel like I can take it on.
  21. Hmm. The whole things sounds weird. I would be inclined to say to them that I know where they can purchase a helmet. That way nobody is out anything if the rental goes lost, and you don't have to worry about your lid being targetted as being involved in some kinda money-making business. Personally, I have never heard of such a company approaching a stranger in such a way. Normally they would go to professional rental places, or hire a builder or something like that.
  22. I haven't read the novelization of the movie, but would it possibly say who these individuals are in the book?
  23. Thanks, I will be seeking greeblies from Elvis Trooper for sure.
  24. Got it done ... although I may throw some more gloss on there. Now that I look again I realize I should not say done, really, because I haven't gotten the greeblies yet. But the paint job is done. Next stop, Greeblieville... wherever that is.
  25. I can't find the plug-in-thingy to recharge my camera so I might have to get inventive with the webcam on my laptop but I'll see about getting some pics today. I've been knocked flat for days with a virus and today is the first day in a while that I feel I have enough strength to even pick up a helmet. GB
