  1. I might take the effort to change the box some day but for now I just want a finished helmet I can put on my shelf. I have the paint job mostly complete. Then I'll just need lenses.
  2. Three guesses? Is that all? Man, there are hundreds of costumes in the SW universe. Well, let's see if I can guess - 1. Sandperson? 2. Ewok? 3. Princess Leia? That's really cool. It's da man himself!
  3. Dunno about the cigarette box, but there does seem to be two versions. I wish I knew what was on the back of the silver stripe TIE lid. Oh well. Nobody ever looks at the back anyway. I did decide to change the contour of the arch above the vocoder though. After I get more done I will get a few pics.
  4. Having looked around at more references I'm getting more cornfused. The TIE seems to have - althernately - a small square rectangle on the back, or a larger button type panel. Maybe I don't have to make the mod to the back after all.
  5. Hi, thank you jag and nazgul for the links. I'm already a member of so many online clubs my computer is limping, but I might have to check it out. I'm not certain what helmet I have, but I think it's actually supposed to be an AT-AT driver, rather than a TIE pilot. The helmet looks really good and quite accurate as far as I can tell (the face is the same size as that of my stormtrooper lid so it's really quite large), except that the little arch over the vocoder is more pointed than it should be, which makes me think it might be a goldenarmor AT-AT helmet. I plan to modify the few details that are different (as far as I know it's mainly just the shape and size of the "box" on the back of the mohawk strip). If there is another difference I should know about (other than the obvious differences in details like painting and greeblies) feel free to educate me. I may or may not take the time to reshape the vocoder arch. I should be getting some lettering decals soon. The biggest problem I will have with this helmet is finding a place to display it. I'm quickly running out of designated Star Wars stuff shelving.
  6. Hey all, I am painting a TIE pilot lid and I want to do a particular paint job from one of the pilots during the battle at the end of ANH. What I would like to know is if there are any good sources of good clear pics. I also was wondering if there are decals available anywhere for the lettering on the top of the "mohawk". I have the imperial cog decals so I don't need those. I'm tempted to hand paint the lettering, but I need some good clear pics before I take it on. Michael
  7. Traditionally, a set of six of anything is called a sextet. I don't know that there is really a word for a set of six movies, as such.
  8. I think for the most part anything other than just "white" has probably more to do with lighting. Any tone the colour takes after the fact may have more to do with aging. Many paints and plastics will "yellow" over time.
  9. I hate to sound like a nit-picking doof, but will there be any mention of copyright and other legalities with the posting of said essay? The only reason I ask is because the incidence of plagiarism is on the rise, and it's as easy as a couple of mouse clicks to lift an essay off the net. I'm not saying anyone here is looking to lift an essay, but stuff makes the rounds on the net. At least with copyright notation there is legal recourse in the event of plagiarism. I suppose that will be up to the person posting to decide.
  10. You knew this had to be asked: What do stormtroopers wear after Labor Day?
  11. The regular old postal service works just fine. Much better rates. They have insurance options. I always choose postal service over any other service.
  12. I find they pretty much all have their occasional problems. It's just a web thing to have occasional glitches and such. I use Yahoo - have done for a few years now - and I don't really have a problem with it. Well, not with the technicalities of the service anyway. The Yahoo homepage headlines on the other hand could use some brain cells in the mix. You can tell they aim their news at slack-jawed OMGers who sit around all day reading articles about what an atrocious colour so-and-so wore at the celebrity ball last night.
  13. I don't mean to be nitpicky, or to sound like a doof, but I think "stormtrooper" is a translation of "sturmtruppen"... the other way round from the way you had it. Yeah, yeah, ever'buddy thumb their noses at Gypsyboy now.
  14. You could always go for the music from ANH called "Imperial Attack". It's the music during the scene where the stormtroopers bust onto the Tantive IV. It has some elements of Vader's theme in there but it isn't really Vader's theme. There are also some elements of Luke's, and Leia's, themes, and some other "good guy" bits in it, but the general overtone of the music is aggressive and makes one feel like something bad is about to happen.
  15. What are you trying to say? Are you saying Jedi mind tricks are a myth?
  16. Not long after that, Chewie offered a big piece of meat pie to Han, Luke and Leia. They all sniffed at it and said, this smells really good, we didn't know you were a chef. They ate up the whole pie, and the other pies were put in a freezing unit on the Falcon. Yum.
  17. It's a casting of a modified (by you) casting of a little thing that wasn't made by the guy who originally cast it. You made it original. If people want to go on about recasting then you may as well accuse everyone in the props dept at Lucasfilm of doing the same thing, because they did exactly what EVO3 did.
  18. The comparison between Star Wars and Star Trek is old and tired. Besides, they aren't even the same genre of entertainment. Trek is Sci-Fi, Wars is Science-Fantasy. It's apples and oranges. You may as well compare Blade Runner with Harry Potter, for cryin' out loud. I like Trek and Wars, but for different reasons. This is all just media hype. They have to come up with some reason to get people thinking about the movies so they can get the box office sales up.
  19. Or... you could come to New Brunswick, Canada, where I am and have all the "snow day" you want. We already have about 9 tons of snow per square foot, and it's snowing again right now. It really does look like Hoth here... except that you can see cars and houses and stuff... just barely. LOL Around here a "snow day" means that schools and universities are closed because of all the snow. We get them rather regularly in our winter months. By the way - there is a joke in these parts about us having two seasons; Winter and Poor Sledding.
  20. Of current/recent movies, I would have to say my faves (apart from the original Star Wars) are the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. All my other favorite movies are old movies. When I say "old" movies I mean black and white... and in some cases silent. I'm particularly fond of the great old comedians like Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, The Marx Brothers and that lot. Those were from the days when people knew what being funny actually meant, unlike more recently where farting in a puddle would be the most humorous thing one could expect. Although I don't count them among my favorites, I also enjoy much of the general sort of fantasy adventure kinds of things that are popular now - The Dark Knight, Iron Man, etc. I like the Harry Potter movies. I like almost anything by Pixar too, and stuff like Shrek, etc. Really, I like pretty much anything that appeals to the imagination without getting overly gross or gory. Gore doesn't bother me, it just doesn't progress a story any and I feel like it wastes my time. Yes, I'm a movie snob. I'm proud of that fact.
  21. First to NY from Canada, and then to UK? And it's cheaper? This I gotta look into.
  22. It's been my experience that tracking numbers generally tell you that something has been mailed, and then informs you that you got it when it has arrived yesterday.
  23. This is weird... I hit reply on a whim, even though I have not been able to sign in here for a while now... and it let me post!!! How vewy, vewy stwange! Anyway, I usually try not to tell them if possible. I had been sort of bouncing between telling them or not, depending on what kind of "vibes" I got from the salesperson. Sometimes you can just tell if they're gonna say "cool" or if they're gonna say "uhhhhh ,,, huh ..." My worst experience for that was when I was at Canadian Tire once and I was asking about fiberglass supplies. There was a fellow next in line at the counter and he asked me what I was planning to do with it. I said, "I'm going to make a Darth Vader helmet", and his reaction was like I had told him I was going to invite Howard Stern to his granddaughter's 4 yr birthday or something. His reaction was actually in the realm of distaste, not just confusion, but he actually came across like he was somehow put out by my hobby. I refrained from giving him a piece of my mind, to the effect that if you're going to imply an interest in what someone is doing you should at least have the decency to not treat the reply like it was offensive or something. Ever since that day I always give a generalized answer, not a lie as such, but very general - something like, "I'm planning to make a casting from a silicone mold" or "I need to match a fabric colour to something I have at home" - which is what I said when asked why I was looking for a small swatch of red velvet. She didn't have to know I was hoping to match the colour of a red guard helmet. If they press me for a more specific answer I simply reply the way I did before, and if they continue to do so I tell them I can find what I'm looking for myself, thank you very much, have a nice day.
  24. It would be interesting to see what the Ewoks might have been like in RotJ if GL hadn't wanted them to apeal to younglings. I kina like the idea of them being less teddy bear like and more fur-covered carnivore like. I'm picturing a bunch of two-legged wolverines running around the forest. LOL
