Wanting to do a First Order Stormtrooper any tips?
Sly11 replied to pedro2931's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
Best advise I can give, Start saving! [emoji12] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Guys head straight to the Hard armor section and start looking at AP armour builds. Also have a look at approved EIB and Centurion apps to see the sort of things that people get right and wrong in their submissions. At the end of the day, when building for accuracy, use original reference material from the FISD photo archives and only use build threads and applications as guides. Hope this helps. Oh and ask a crap load of questions, there is plenty of help here. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

TK-11075 Requesting ANH Stunt EIB Status [AP] [512]
Sly11 replied to JDTrooper's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Hey James, thank you for your application for Expert Infantry, lets take a look. CRL and EIB Application Requirements: All photos are present and your armor contains all specifics required to meet EIB, with that we welcome you to Expert Infantry rank. Another nice clean AP build, well done Sir. Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: I cant tell if your helmet is entirely hand painted or you have used decals, that's a darn good paint job in my books, very nice work. Also good work making AP fit around your mid section, shims are never an easy task, but i will cover this subject in the Centurion suggestion section below. If you can shorten the top straps of your shoulder bells to make them virtually touch the bridges at the top, it will just be a finishing touch to make you look the best you can, we would really like to see this done for your future centurion application. Centurion Suggestions: I can see by your build that you are gunning for Centurion and there really is only one element that requires some attention with your side shims. As per the CRL . A single visible seam line is present. You have two options here, the first generally gives the best outcome. ABS paste, a mixture of small abs off cuts and acetone. this also forms a permanent bond as it literally acts like plastic weld. Once applied and dried, it is sanded back with fine sandpaper and then polished. There are many build threads that have used this method to great success. The other is a white caulking tube, but considering you already have a slightly different shade of white between your shim and the armor, this could give a third shade of white to the area which might be just a little too much. Personally I would do a practice run in making the ABS paste and applying it to some other scrap ABS materiel and experiment with the result before applying it to your armor. Once again Congratulations on your EIB badge. Please use the photo reference guide and include the D ring shot in a Centurion application. http://www.whitearmo...hoto-checklist/ -
Comfys ATA ANH Stunt - First Build!
Sly11 replied to Comfy Turtle's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
If you are going to use thinners, I would only ever use mineral turpentine on ABS, it is the mildest form and won't melt your armour. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

I found them in a marine shop. Actually they were a small nut and bolt, but the correct size and both pan head and slightly domed. They were available in varying lengths and sold individually so I didn't need to buy a box of them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

I used a Dremell with the sanding head on it . First I marked a line with pencil to sand down to rather than take it off entirely . This way if I made a mistake, there was still more I cauldron remove, sort of like a safety net. The only reason we keep any return edges is to give the illusion of thickness to the armor. Sly11 replied to Comfy Turtle's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
You can remove the return edges on your Biceps and forearms to get a better fit. Most of the archive images show that the original suits Han no return edges at all. As o your little issue with the ab plate, yes some medium fine sand paper then fine , then wet n dry, which is exceptionally fine and as it name says, yes you wet it and sand out the scratches. Then Noves 3, and finish with Novus 2, you probably won't need the Novus 1. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Trooperbay Down? + Tear question
Sly11 replied to Comfy Turtle's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
They do look a little small, as they should be painted right to the bottom edges of the tear area. You can still used the Hand painted style decals for this (Dave M) versions available on Trooperbay once it is back up and running. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Comfys ATA ANH Stunt - First Build!
Sly11 replied to Comfy Turtle's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Hi Comfy, could you please tell us the thickness of your end caps. They should be 19mm, (3/4") wide. Also on the right side of the button plate looks like it has a bit of a lip on it . This could do with a sand to take that kick up off. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Sly11 replied to Chemalakita's topic in Request Centurion Status
Alright JosƩ!! Thank you for your Centurion application!! Let's get right to it CRL and Centurion Application Requirements: All required photos are present, thank you, however we will need you to adjust your drop boxes and retake the belt photo and your action shot before we can award you Centurion. Almost there. It appears your drop boxes move around quite a bit. They are sitting in a different position in every photo they are visible in. As per the CRL : Drop boxes are vertically aligned with the end of the ammo belt.(as they are in the below image) Yours move out past the ends or sit to far in from the ends Maybe use some Velcro to prevent the movement, and problem solved. Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: It may be the angle of the photo that makes it look this way, but the corner of your sniper plate looks like it is sticking out a touch, I am only concerned that it might catch on something and possibly get damaged. It might pay to try and secure the sharp corner down to avoid this. Overall you look awesome, great job with the mods for Centurion, nice clean build. Please make the above mentioned adjustment, and the badge is yours. Nearly there my friend Thank you for adjusting the drop boxes and updating your photo. With out any more delay, congratulations and welcome to Centurion rank -

You definitely need to consider the ability to go to the toilet. A zipper in the crotch would be covered by the cod, I would just be careful things don't get caught if you know what I mean Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

AP Thigh Trimming Question
Sly11 replied to Stampeder17's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I actually heat bent the bottom bit on the front and sanded the sharp bit off. As for the rear, I trimmed the back bit out a little o allow me to bend my legs more. The cover strip on the rear will conceal the top edge misalignment perfectly. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Schlick paint job Tony, this is going to look awesome when it's done. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
