  1. Crazy awesome discussion here. Had fun reading it. To bring this back to the space ships at light speed and to combine it with science fiction movies: What if the two ships reach their destination and the first one goes below light speed just a nanosecond before the following ship does? If a fleet of star ships enters hyperspace in movies we see the ships on the front start first - that makes sense. When the fleet arrives and leaves hyperspace, the first ships arrive first. Wouldn't it be more realistic, if the last ones brake first? (a point of safety first) Yes, I know, this is all just theory and of course all ships in that fleet use a clocking signal to synchronize their hyperspace travel and avoid any collision.
  2. Big apologies to everyone here for keeping you waiting. In the background I have been working on the folding stock, that I had somewhat underestimated. However the good news is: next update is not that far away… Hi Kevin, the same over here. As I am trying to reconstruct the Sterling in most details, there was no way around Aaron’s muzzle kit with rounded edge. And I love how it changed the front view… Thanks Ian. You are correct, in my last photo it looks like the sight guard was pressed together, but luckily this seemed to be just a fish-eye effect of the camera or something. The side view below shows how it really looks. Happy Easter everybody
  3. Same over here. For my current build I thought about making this functional, but I doubt it will ever be magnifying because on the blaster we look into the wrong end... Will keep an eye on this until I get to that stage...
  4. A pleasure to read - as always Great work everybody.
  5. Good example for "Troopers Helping Troopers" 2.5 years ago I waited 7 weeks for my kit to arrive (UK to Germany) and got a bit nervous meanwhile. This offer is a great opportunity to save some time...
  6. Are the power cylinders from resin or metal? If metal, how did you attach these? Glue? Magnets?
  7. Hey Bill, good to see you finally started a build thread. You made some nice progress in the background, all looking fine so far. Why repainting the grip? The glossy surface is correct and will anyway reduce a bit as time goes by. Oh and thanks for all the kudos.
  8. The digital sideview of the scope you have linked, looks like the rear foot is not close enough to the big lens. Maybe that is just an issue on the shapeway picture and not on your printed scope (hard to see in that first photo). If the rear foot is located like on the real scope (your last picture) then everything is fine.
  9. Thanks for your words, Sean. You did everything right by starting a build thread, because THIS is what really helps. Most people on the FISD are friendly and ready to help. The comments and critics you are going to receive here, might push you for even higher details... Good luck with this build.
  10. And really, postpone?? Come on....
  11. A good start and excellently detailed thread. Curious to see how you will run this build with all your additions...
  12. Ian, these T-tracks really make that blaster looking even better - like Brian said. The receiver tube has now "grown" in diameter and looks good, considering the other dimensions. Very cool job! Any plans for wires around the T-tracks like it was done on the DLT-19 ?
  13. Update #12 - Work on front end Some readers might have noticed the new receiver tube during the last updates. Derrek (Dday) had corrected the position of the front sight block in his latest tubes. He wanted it to be accurate in this thread and therefore generously replaced the tube with a new one. Next two pictures (from other finished builds) show the difference. With that new pipe, the muzzle from Derrek can be installed in 3 different ways: After Aaron (usaeatt2) had highlighted the issue with the rolled edge on the Sterling muzzle, he started making resin casts of his modified masterpiece. I am now very happy to introduce one more of his highly detailed resin copies in this build: Thank you for reading. Feel free to leave any comments and critics. Next update might take a bit longer...
  14. Really a perfect copy of the original end cap. The slightly bigger seamline will surely reduce after some layers of paint. This photo also shows, the ring is a nice match. Any idea why the bottom of both end caps are different? (meaning the area below the ring)
  15. Wow, that looks very cool. The thicker rail is fine. It will most likely not be recognized and looks better with a scope of that size. A longer rail would not make any sense as the position of the scope does not need to move. All good as you did it. I love this build
  16. Hi Michael and welcome to the FISD. There have been 3D-printed E-11 but as far as I know, people did not share their files. This thread does not contain such files, but can help to give a good understanding of how all the parts work. I highly recommend the Gallery chapter #33
  17. Happy to see it worked to replace the bipod. Looking really cool Ian. This area will most likely be, where your second hand is at. So I hope the mounting method of the bipod will stand that stress... Can't wait to see your inner barrel and T-tracks.
  18. THIS really made me laughing out loud. Who is that guy? Hairstyle and glasses look like from the deepest 70’s... Funky A member of the FISD once posted pictures of how that part worked on his Sterling. Although there is no real function in my build to release the magazine, I wanted to incorporate this mod Very curious about that effort - when I finally get there. Real life is currently slowing down things… Hey Bryn, nice to have you stopping by. Indeed the pipe builds allow to add a few more details than the full resin kits. But for trooping, I guess this blaster won’t leave the house… Thanks Chris, glad if this thread is of any help to somebody. Have seen your aluminum build and man, this is outstanding. Can’t wait to see the folding stock in action… Thank you very much for your kind words Chris. You sounded, like this thread started something... Thanks Christina. I wish for a faster progress, but there are some other things in life... However, update #12 will be ready (latest) at the next weekend.
  19. Hi Will, there is a research-thread for the best available item to install lenses in resin scopes and the search indeed ended up with the mini monocular telescopes.
  20. Regarding your questions: my first scopes got painted in flat black but checking reference pictures later, these are semi gloss in some places (depending on wear and tear). Having different types of black paint on individual parts of a blaster makes it (imho) look more believable. It is something I am heading for in my builds.
  21. For the counter I expected something like this Just kidding Ian (again). To be honest, I am following this thread with great interest and every new update is a pleasure to read. I like the way you run this build from your own ideas and imagination, without having any detailed references. My deepest respect for that. Your Hengstler mod is very precise and I never expected to get such a nice "face" out of the parts from that ebay counter. Well done my friend. Same for the bipod, which is a very nice addition to this build and makes the whole blaster look even more believable. The only thing I am wondering about is the mounting position of the bipod. Most guns (incl. MG34) do not have these installed on the very front end. Would be interesting to see, how it looks when being placed closer to your tactical foldable grip... (just an idea and no offense in any way)
  22. That is exactly what I meant when mentioning "the crazy things you will do next". Looks good and I am very excited about how it will look with a bipod on the front and some T-tracks...
  23. All good Ian. I was just kidding. This build rocks and I can't wait to see what crazy things you will do next.
  24. No panic Ian. I am sure you can compensate the shorter rear stock with that incredible receiver tube... But seriously thanks for that nice comparison picture.
