My biggest passions outside of Star Wars, the Legion, Trooping and things associated with them are, in no specific order: Hockey - as a fan and a player. I haven't played consistently since 2010 when I was a member of the Team USA ball hockey team in Kandahar's International League, at Kandahar Air Base in Afghanistan. I'm considering joining a local league after getting my legs back a bit. I've got a nice new pair of skates!!! As a fan, I bleed red, white, and black as a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks. Seriously love video games... I currently have 11 different systems and a game library that is pushing 500+ titles, but I'm primarily an Xbox guy because I enjoy playing online with my friends, and Clan-mates. Paintball, those same guys in the XBL Clan (most of them anyway) are also members of my Paintball team. This is another hobby that I don't do as actively as I'd like, because my team-mates primarily live in NY state. I've played several games with over 2,000 players in the Poconos Mountains in Pennsylvania though, and we have full-corporate and field sponsorship as a team. It's a pretty cool perk. My Mustang... Finally, movies. I love watching movies. The bigger the screen, the louder the surround sound, the better. I love just getting lost in the story, and the emotions of it, and letting it take me to wherever it is that the story leads me. (Usually... There are those movies out there that I just can't tolerate - I'm looking at you, anything starring Melissa McCarthy!) Outside of that, my family. Great topic, we've got a lot of "getting to know each other better topics" popping up lately. Very cool stuff!

Am I a little short to be a Stormtrooper?
Dark CMF replied to boochicko's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Greetings Kristi, and welcome to the FISD!!! To contact Troopermaster, you can send him a private message on the forums here. Just hover your pointer over his name, above his picture, and when you get the pop-up, you can select "Send Me a Message." He is based in the UK, as you assumed. Good luck! -
A Problem With My Neck Seal
Dark CMF replied to Outer Rim Tim's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Hey Tim, great name! Apparently not so great of a neck seal, or at least you're having an issue that's not standard. I got mine from Veedox here in the forums. Darman also makes some which are highly regarded. Both can be found in the on-going sale thread. -
Very impressive! Congratulations! The only question I have is do your biceps have hooks in them? I ask because the biceps (particularly in the pictures from the back) appear to have slipped below the shoulder bell straps.
-
I ask this, because I'll be there for the first one this year,, 15 - 17 May. It would be great to meet up with any of you that might be there. Maybe have a group photo take there near the AT-AT or something!!

Concerned I won't be able to get my head in my helmet
Dark CMF replied to XiliX's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
That is definitely how they go on and come off. LoL. I could NEVER get my head in my bucket without screwing it on. -

Congrats to our new Detachment Leader, Eric Brager
Dark CMF replied to captsafe66's topic in Off Topic
Are you the new Detachment Party Officer I've heard so much about???? First, a heart-felt thanks to all of the candidates. The DL is a critical position, and accepting nominations for the position cannot be done lightly. Thank you for your passion and commitment to "Troopers helping Troopers!!" Naturally, an appropriately big congratulations to Eric! Thanks for everything that you do for us as the face of the Legion (TKs, obviously) and specifically this Detachment. It is clearly a labor of love, and all of us will benefit greatly as a result of you having taken this vote of confidence from the members again. Finally, an outpouring of thanks to Mathias, for the job he's done during the last year. Not all decisions are popular, and you bore the mantle of leadership with honor, and integrity, and guided the Legion's TKs to the next level during your year. Thank you. Enjoy the well deserved break, and troop your heart out (but post Tropp Reports)!!! -
Without having an account there myself, the best suggestion I can make is to email the webmaster. Sorry... that sucks man.. Best of luck with it.

Grappling hooks wanted...
Dark CMF replied to justjoseph63's topic in The Foundry - Armor and Prop Making
That's where I'd have sent you. He was still making them last summer. -
Beautiful area... Definitely a lot of just breath-taking scenery - besides the exhibit. If you're out towards Tacoma at all, head to University Place, and check out Steph's Pizza, and if you venture off to Olympia, hit up Wagner's European bakery!

Greetings Andrew, and welcome to the FISD!!! More important than height and weight, when considering armor kits, is your waist measurement. That's the principal difference in some of the kits that are available. Nearly all of the kits are ANH derived, so based on your general size you shouldn't have any issues with most of them, but there are some that are fan-sculpted that cater to taller or larger troopers. Kits can always be cut down, but they cannot be lengthened, and the girth won't fit without shims if it is too small, and it's best to get a kit that won't need shims.

Hockey jerseys... I love them. Have almost 50 of them.

Once upon a time, 20+ years ago whilst playing Wolfenstein 3D and other games on a LAN in our barrack's rooms and BBS's (there seems to be a theme here eh?) my screen name was T-Way, first initial, and first three letters of my last name. I had a habit of playing only by the light of the television, otherwise sitting in total darkness. My friends started calling me Dark as a result. That stuck. CMF... That is my Xbox Live Clan, and Paintball team. It is tattooed on my left shoulder, actually. What does it stand for? This is a family friendly forum, but insane people doing bad things to matriarchs is a solid hint. My Gamertag on XBL is Dark CMF.

Hearing kit speaker placements?
Dark CMF replied to Quadan's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
Thanks, Hans!! You should take a look at Tony's helmet build. His EAS Installation has the mics in the ears. Very brilliantly executed, and far less nerve-wracking, I'm sure. -

Yeah... Those exposed wires for the EAS drive me crazy. LoL -
Latex handguards gluing to rubber gloves fail
Dark CMF replied to fuumantroop's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
You can save the handguards... Try to remove them but if they stick or look like they're going to tear, cut them free of the gloves. Take some fine grit sandpaper to the backs, and be sure to tack down one corner while you're wearing them, and glue the whole thing down while you're not wearing them. -
Yeah, you've got to get the mics isolated as best as you can, and then find a nice balance on the sound level. I've got mine balanced pretty well. But you've got to take into account the fact that your head will be in there, too. For me, I adjust it until I've got the tiniest bit of intermittent feedback happening before I put it on, and it appears to be the right level once I put it on.

Hearing kit speaker placements?
Dark CMF replied to Quadan's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
Yes, that kit will work exactly. I would think that 24 guage wire would work perfectly. Outside of the possibility that the battery box is connected to the board, it looks just like the Radio Shack kit (which is more expensive anyway). As Pat said, UKswrath put his mics in his ears, and that's probably the best possible option. I'm not sure how well the "stereo effect" is from the frown mounted mics, but others can weigh in on that for you. I can say that in either the ears, or the traps, you get a very clear indication of where the sound is coming from, directionally. My system is installed like so: ------- Microphones in the traps, behind the brow trim. -------- Here you can see both the battery box (left) and EAS system (right) in the top of the helmet and the speakers (green circles) behind the batteries for my Echo fan system, just behind my ears actually in the back section of the helmet. -
For hearing improvements, depending on your comfort level with soldering, you can buy a kit at Radio Shack for about $25 +shipping, or you can look for an EAS (Environmental Amplification System) in the on-going runs here at FISD. I have the pre-assembled EAS kit. I have one installed in my bucket, and trooped with it for the first time just about a week ago. It is seriously a game changer. The effects are very subtle, but very powerful. You don't fully realize that you're using speakers in the bucket most of the time, but you can hear slightly better than if you had your bucket off. At the Comic Con I attended last weekend, there was a couple there in the (very loud) vendor area and the woman was trying to convince the man to ask us if he could have his picture taken with us. He kept on resisting her. The whole time, we were about ten feet away from them and not looking in their direction. They were carrying on in those hushed tones between each other and during a break in their conversation, I simply turned towards them and stared right at them. They both looked half surprised by this. Then, I said "Yes, you can have your picture taken with us, but you have to ask nicely. Just like she told you to do." The looks on their faces were great, and there is no way that I'd have even been aware of their presence without that EAS running in my helmet.

If I were to choose one, I'd go with the first one. This is a very sensible approach you're taking. Having an amp allows you to engage more actively with the community, and is always something that you can upgrade later. People are always shocked when we speak. I don't get it, but they're always shocked.

Hey there Lee! For the armor, the rivets can all be found using the following link: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/23970-fs-centurion-level-rivet-sets/ As for screws, etc, that depends on how you are planning to build your armor. Your helmet kit should include all of the necessary screws to assemble it, but you may want to pick up a rivet gun and some pop rivets for use in putting the belt and drop boxes together. Do you know how you plan to assemble your kit? (Snaps and webbing/original strapping)
