No sew snaps pulling through elastic straps - Help!
geronika replied to Falciform13's topic in ANH (Stunt and Hero)
I went to a local sporting goods store and bought shoulder pad elastic. It's a lot heavier duty. -
My late father's birthday.

TK-19513's road to the 501st
geronika replied to Squimspickle's topic in Newly Approved Members - Sound Off!
Well done. I have a very nice heavy weight undersuit and found a lighter weight one to wear in summer. It also stained the underside of my armor. Now I warn evenone I know to wash their undersuit multiple times before wearing. I am afraid that the Anovos undersuit will do the same thing. -
The email I got said the undersuit and gloves will ship in a separate box. I got my box yesterday and I'm happy with it. A little lighter it seems than my ATA. I think I am going to build it for the wife.

Using water bath to mold armor
geronika replied to hon143's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I can tell you from experience to never set foot in a hot tub wearing your TK -
I did the same thing, they also have white. I ended up using the black on parts that don't show which was the interior snaps for strapping. I wouldn't use it for cover strips because there is always some that oozes out.

I sit down and put my legs through my thighs and not go past my knees.. Then I put on my boots. Then stand and pull my thighs up as high as possible. Put my foot on the chair and put on the shins. Proceed from there.

Plus $6.50 for shipping.

I can't wear glasses in my bucket since I have to twist and turn to get it on (ATA). Plus you can't see regardless. As for fogging up fans help but I wipe my lens with a soapy towel also.

Iron Man MKVI in Fiberglass
geronika replied to Dday's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Oops, I did not spot the smaller shoulders and gold abs. Your suit is one of the best I've seen. Plus you fit it well. I need to lose about 50 pounds to make mine look better. Awesome job. -
Iron Man MKVI in Fiberglass
geronika replied to Dday's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Awesome suit except that is a MKIII (Mark 3) suit. It was worn in the first Ironman movie. The MKVI (Mark 6) was built in the second movie and has the triangle shaped arc reactor. I have a foam version of the MkVII (mark 7) that he wore in the Avengers. I am jealous because you look so much more awesome than I do wearing mine but kids don;t care, they love Ironman. -
You can troop with pretty much anyone but you are restricted to one squad or garrison because of voting privileges.
-
Luckily you have some vets to help you. I had absolutely zero help from my squad and the main garrison is too far away.

My first was a Star Wars Reads day for some inner city children. I didn't have any thing to carry my gear in so I used the box that it was shipped in. It was so awkward. I knew nobody at the event, they were quite surprised when an unknown TK showed up. (It was a local non 501st costume club called JediOKC). I had no handler but there were enough people there to help. We dressed in a supply closet. When the kids showed up they were ok for about two minutes then they started getting confrontational. The girls were the worse, they would get right in my face and start asking questions like "what are you supposed to be" and then start poking my chest. After ten minutes the kids were done with us and we were supposed to be there for an hour. I was miserable and hoped that not all troops were like this one. Thankfully they were not. I've only had a few other experiences that were as bad or worse. I learned a lot that day. First I realized that building a costume and wearing it around the house is one thing, actually trooping in it is another. Armor bites and immobility plus having no fans may me fog up so I could barely see. Just because it fits at home doesn't mean it fits when you go to wear it and move around. When I got home I had to make adjustment to my thighs (I have redone them three different times since then). I learned you are never done working on your armor. The good news is that my second and third troops went much better, and now I am pretty much a veteran with over 60 events in 20 months. When I first made the decision to build a TK, my wife thought I was crazy. When I took her to her first event, and she saw the way that people reacted, she said to me "Now I get it. I get why you are doing this." She goes to nearly every event as my handler and now all of my grandkids have Star Wars costumes as well. One last thing, smiling inside your bucket is normal. But it also hides your tears.

Eastbay evapor...stitching is ugly
geronika replied to fuumantroop's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Dyeing stitching may be very difficult or almost impossible because it is usually a nylon thread and won't take the dye. Also I caution anyone buying cheap undersuits to make sure you wash them three or four times before wearing under your armor. I bought a lightweight set at Kohl's and it stained the inside of my armor. -
Congrats

I lost my father to cancer almost two years ago. I became a stormtrooper to honor his legacy of service to the community. My TK number is his birthday 2-07-36. I miss him everyday. That never goes away. But I know he is with me in spirit everytime I don the helmet. It doesn't make things easier but it helps knowing that I am carrying on the values he taught me.

Way's of preventing the dreaded Armor bite?
geronika replied to tk10500's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I cheated, I sewed some black fabric over padding and velcroed it to my inner thighs and back of the knees where my armor bites were the worst. -
A GOOD SOURCE FOR A BODY SUIT.
geronika replied to A Master Builder's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I strongly suggest you wear and wash your undersuit multiple times and I mean multiple times prior to wearing it under your armor. I have a high quality thicker set from Nike and when summer rolled around I bought a little bit thinner set I found at Kohl's. Well the color rubbed off on the inside of my armor and now it has this reddish brown stain on the inside that no amount of scrubbing with a Mr. Clean sponge can get off. Luckily it is mostly contained to the inside. -
Just got asked by coworker - Armor for new movies?

Not one set of armor was made for the prequels, they were all cgi correct? -
Bodysuit under the TK armor
geronika replied to moxtrooper's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I have a really nice set of separates made by Nike but they are heavy duty. One day at Kohl's I found a top and bottom that were much lighter and I thought I'd purchase those because it would be a tad cooler and I had a nice 30% off coupon. Even though I washed them before wearing them the first time, the dye of the fabric stained the inside of my armor and some edges. I've scrubbed and even tried bleach but those stains may be permanent. Luckily they aren't too noticeable. Don't buy cheap stuff and if you do wash them about ten times before you wear them. -
You can go to a sporting goods store (independents are better than chains) to buy shoulder pad elastic. Most sell it by the yard.
