Another Vac Form Table Underway
Murray1134 replied to TK8776 jgarrettg's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I know next to nothing about Vac-forming, but I did attend a panel held by Spat at a local con where he went into his setup. He used a multi-hole pattern and it seemed to help. just throwing that out there. -
Have you posted this on either of the Legion forums? Contacted local garrisons?

The best thing I have found for any SW-Costume reference is the Visual Dictionaries

Cos-Effective Gloves - reccommended
Murray1134 replied to rapstertee's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Hmmm... just let me check on that exchange rate between the UK and the US again. -
I can sit.. sort of. Getting back up is the harder part for me. Right now, the length of my thigh pieces don't let me gain leverage to stand back up.

If you are using the kit I think you are (most TX kits are FX based) then when you cut out the teeth there is already a raised and lowered portion. Just cut out the lowered portion. It really is up to you as to how much you want to cut out, some people leave them somewhat rounded. Whatever you think looks good to you.

I saw it last night. The action and the clones are awesome. We get real down and dirty in the fighting, Geonosis has nothing on these battles. Rex is a true bad-an impolite person, as is Cody. There is no Jar Jar, but something close. I really liked it, it's not an A+ but it really opens up A LOT of very interesting possibilities for the TV Series. Things can only get better, and I think the TV show will be A+ material.

I like how you curved and kind of sloped the "side-gap" piece. Makes it look more interesting.

MR CE helmet overhaul
Murray1134 replied to wannabetrooper's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I bought window screen but I thought it was a bit harsh and I was afraid of scratching up my face, so I switched it out to a fabric mesh. -
Not that it is really canon, but BF2 has classic TKs fighting a few months to a year after ROTS
-
I'm also looking for a good touch-up/match for the MRCE helmet. I really don't want to do a full sand down/paint on it, but I know I'm gonna need some kind of touch up for covering where I have to sand those pesky mold lines off.

5'-9" sounds right. I have one too, mounted on my door.

This topic reminded me of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0L99Q5xiMA As for why Troopers couldn't hit the broadside of a Wookiee, never underestimate the power of the "plot shields"

Welders Shield for Lenses
Murray1134 replied to Murray1134's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Thanks for the help guys. After doing some searching, I think buying is going to be a pain right now. So I'll probably end up buying some off of one of you fine lens makers. I'm trying to figure out how to actually make a lot of these things myself, so that I don't always have to rely on the sellers if a shortage should ever occur. -
I feel this is kind of a stupid question, but I know there are people who know more about than me. I need some lenses for my MRCE and I thought about making my own out of the Welders shield. What are the different shade levels? Which ones are too dark, too light. Is Shade 3 the best one to use?

Rubies Armor - first look
Murray1134 replied to journeymanprotector's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I've heard of quite a few similar stories. Rubies reps were quoting suits that we all wear at upwards of $5k! -
A Question about the Thermal Detonator.
Murray1134 replied to Sandman's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I went all grey, I'm not that big of a fan of the silver strips. -
Work, work, work, work, work, work some more. At some point, I may try to figure out how to best close my side-gap and fix my ab-plate so it pulls in more. Also, I have to figure out how I can get myself a copy of COD4, because all I have to waste time online with is Halo 3.

Umm... what else would you need? Some of these are obvious. If you can't find Humbrol, Testors #1138 works good too for grey paint. Drill When it comes to snaps, you'll want Industrial Snaps. Available at most major craft stores or Wal-Mart type stores. Elastic, Nylon webbing and Velcro in black and white. Wire cutters, especially if you plan on wiring up your bucket. Screwdrivers and pliers. All I can think of for now.

Personally, I'm in the middle between the two camps. But, like Gino said I can see myself not staying in the middle. I've only been at this for a few months now, but I can see so much more now in the films and in what people are wearing. I like the scuffs, scratches and marks that are on my armor. I think it gives it more character and makes it look like it's actually been out there in the field and not sitting in a rubbermaid tub in my living room. On a somewhat related note, I was looking at some of the new Clone Wars books at the store the other day. Something in one of them caught my eye and has stuck with me. In the movie and TV show the clones have a slang for new recruits "Shineys" because they haven't been out in battle yet and the armor is still all perfect and clean.

The Making of Star Wars is a must buy. The Complete Visual Dictionary. For PT-stuff, Dressing a Galaxy is really good. It's more than just Padme dresses.

Idea for hiding a speaker in armor
Murray1134 replied to XNtr3k's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to bother with putting sound in my helmet. But, after wearing it out in public one time around a bunch of kids, I quickly realized that me just kind of talking in the helmet really ruins the effect, and you can only pantomime so much. Also, it's very difficult to understand what you are saying underneath the helmet without so kind of sound system. I went the cheaper route and paired the Wal-Mart special voice changer with a set of Stomper's great aerator speakers, and I think it sounds great and right out of the movies. So not only can I now be understood but I've also got that great theatrical effect too. -
You might want to add some snaps to the ab section under your belt. The downside of the canvas belt is that it will slide around on the plastic. Snaps will help it stay in place.

Stealth Trooper "How I Did It" guide
Murray1134 replied to drlostdude's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
That would be the one. I leave my bell and bicep attached all the time, and put them on as one piece. The shoulder/armpit strap is permanently attached. It keeps your bells from flopping around whenever you lift your arm. -

Looks good to me. Only thing I would recommend is to put a strap running under your shoulder bells to get them from shifting.
