AP ANH armor progress
BactaReality replied to TK-4261's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
This has really come together nicely, congrats on a superb job. -
The blackguard are one of the new trooper variants recently brought up for discussion on the spec ops detachment site----------------- Look in the cantina forum under new costume categories. Anyone interested in doing non-canon trooper variants should go check out that site.

That's what they call a Blackguard. No such thing as too big for a stormtrooper.

Armor History Discussion
BactaReality replied to Jumpin Jax's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I think it would be pretty obvious upon close inspection that the armor pieces are fused together with the mannequin. I still can't believe how much those things are priced at. You could get at least three accurate sets of armor with mannequins for that price. So is the family tree chart on starwarshelmets.com a fairly accurate one? Are there any revisions or additions that should be made to it? -

Armor History Discussion

The hardest part of piecing together lineage is in separating fact from fiction, and I've heard enough conflicting info to think that this will only end in tragedy. -
Hmm, I thought they were supposed to be easier to transfer from one wall to the next, I should've know better. I was thinking about getting one of these, so it's good to know what to expect when I do decide to get one.

Nice find there, so someone just discarded this and left it laying around? TK-4205 is right, and the holster is made to accommodate the size difference. If you check out other production pics of this same trooper, they show the blaster holstered, and it is indeed facing the other way. At first I thought this might've been a Fathead, but now I'm curious where this came from.

What does the armor really do?
BactaReality replied to Laspector's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
When someone was talking about speaker cabinets or guitar equipment, I used to say "You seen the new BT-16?" just because most equipment has names like that. They'd say huh? then I'd say "Huh? what was that?... ah, it's nothing". As far as armor goes in the films, I'm thinking that the rebellion was the exception to the norm when it came to testing out the armor's real effectiveness. I think most civilians were too scared to even think about shooting an officer, nah mean? It was supposed to look more effective than it actually was. At least that's probably what the emperor figured. In order to cut costs to help fund the building of the death star, the troops funding was cut and materials for armor became too expensive, so a cheaper less effective armor was replacing the normally highly deflective material... or something. -
Looks like someone is getting a little behind on their quotas.

Without getting too critical, one of the more obvious things would be to change the outline of the chest armor. It looks like it's not only shaped wrong, but it's a bit too large and reaches the belt on the sides in most cases and covers the ab piece too much IMO. If you have a larger frame or are a lot taller, then it's not as noticeable. Also, the box on the back piece looks too angular where it extrudes from the back. The hand plates look over-sized a bit as well. There are plenty of other subtle differences, but those are the most noticeable. I thought the FX kit was getting or has already been retooled. I know I'd seen a newer version of the helmet in a fan film that actually did'nt look too bad.

The ultimate add-on for a hero helmet!

Thanks, even though it's a crappy pic. Luckily my scruff doesn't show. -
The ultimate add-on for a hero helmet!

Closest thing I have to a hero helmet is my converted TE bucket. It's got the bubble lenses(not green however), lower brow trim, and shorter frown much like the hero. ------- -

Who's scruffy lookin? I got a full on beard, so I guess I'm gonna need to do something about it then huh? -
And what do you make of this material here on the legs? Doesn't really pertain to the question, as this is ROTJ, and not ANH, but it still was something I was curious about.
-
I have no idea, great question T*E.
-
I was actually looking forward to having T*E give us a really good armor question. Something that the majority of us might not know, as it's always cool to find out new inside info. If you really want me to though, I'll post a question in a little while after I think of something.

That's a shame that the fiberglass is prone to cracking, I was hoping a sturdy fiberglass would be more resilient. I thought I remember reading somewhere that the CO FG armor was actually a little flexible, but I guess that could've been just that particular set of armor. I'm really more interested in the armor itself and was hoping it would've been worth it, just having an accurate set of ROTJ armor to go with another more accurate, current ROTJ helmet builder. I'm not really worried about weight, and ultimately it would be just for display, with the exception of the couple times I would at least have to show it off. Thanks for the info!
-
Just curious if anyone here owns a set of this armor or has any opinions on the accuracy or quality of these fiberglass wonders. I've seen several different versions of the Oakley helmet, each looking different from the other, and was wondering what you would need to look for and or avoid when considering picking these up. Also, because the brow trim on these are molded rather than a separate piece, I was thinking you'd have to remove that section all together in order to replace it with a more accurate brow trim. Has anyone done this to an Oakley helmet? I'd like to hear what some of the experts have to say about this.
-
Cool, thanks for the added info! I truly didn't believe I had all the details, I just wanted to test/gauge some of my own knowledge at the top of my head next to a more definitive answer.

1.Bubble lenses vs. Flat 2.Ear caps were slightly different due to the no. of pulls from initial stunt helmets to when they pulled the hero's. 3.Single screw on hero ear cap instead of two 4.shorter frown on hero 5.fewer teeth on hero 6.HDPE on stunt vs ABS hero 7.Stunt helmets were painted 8.Neck trim sizing was different, hero had larger opening due to materials flexiblity 9.No bumps on hero 10. Not sure about this one, but I wanna say the hero had stickers, as I know they were using them in ESB and ROTJ. 11. Can't believe I almost forgot to list this one as it's possibly the most important aspect of the Hero version that I like, and that's the lower brow trim. Is this question exclusive to ANH?

According to MR, none.

Off Topic Armor Trivia Discussions

*In a child's voice- "Are we there yet?" -
I liked Bounty Hunter, but there was definitely too many flaws with the actual game play to make it to a favorites list. Top 3 games as of late are Republic Commando (PC), LEGO SW II, and BF II. I recently got into Galaxies when they released the latest version with all the expansions, but after finding out how much the game had changed since it's initial incarnation, I felt a bit cheated , and have since stopped playing. I really don't get into MMO games, but of course Galaxies was the exception just because it was SW. Jedi Knight I & II are definite must haves too. Empire at War? I got as far as the tutorials before falling asleep.
