My son just received his scout trooper kit from RS propmasters and they included a 2024 Calendar with the kit. I was so excited when I turned to Mr. August and saw @Nairy looking back at me. awesome to see you in there. Congratulations9 points

On behalf of the staff of FISD, I would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. What ever you may or may not celebrate this time of year, please be safe, have fun, and if you can spend some time with the ones closest to you. For many, times have been tough in 2023 so we hope 2024 is kinder to everyone, specially those who need it most. Love and happiness to all First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment staff3 points

Some additional info here if it helps with your research. It looks like there have been 11 or so DA suits that have passed at L2 historically. Feel free to use the Search function to check out their threads (sorry I can't post the links with ease, and haven't completed all of the older threads in my database). But it looks like we haven't had one pass at Centurion in the past 5 years (since @Xinx, whose thread may be worth reviewing if you go that route), so take that for what it's worth. I see that the majority of the 7 or so are also out of the EU, which may be the motivating factor in their purchase. Depending on where you're based, that may be a more important consideration with shipping/duties/etc. They absolutely can be built to L3 standard but wouldn't necessarily be my first choice for Centurion - especially if you plan to paint the helmet anyways and don't need to worry about matching your existing helmet ABS color to the armor. RS has traditionally offered kits in addition to their "pro-built" series, but I did notice that the option has been removed from their website - which is pretty disappointing. Definitely build your own!1 point

You are still welcome to ask questions here even if you will be a dirty boy1 point

I already reached out to a couple of the designers (that's one of them) but there's a big difference of 3D rendering images compared with 3D printing and he's not interested in trying to convert1 point

Well this is a cool Christmas gift! I'll also be itching to print one. -edit- https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/military/gun/nambu-type-99-lmg I wonder if the creator of this file could be convinced to upgrade it a bit for print quality? hmmm.1 point

If you're worried about weight, you might check into AP (Authentic Props) armor. It's sized very generously in the midsection. And if you're painting the bucket anyway, no issues with using a different set of armor as you can paint the DA helmet to match. AP is also having a Boxing Day sale right now I believe. Check the sale forum. My own AP armor has almost achieved 100 troops and it's as strong as it was on day 1. I'm blessed to be the actual size of a 70s stunt TK. My AP armor needed a decent bit of midsection trimming to make it fit my small frame. However, it was lovely that it came in a larger size vs many kits that require shimming to fit larger troopers. Much easier to trim some extra plastic than to shim and paste. It's also not difficult to achieve Centurion in AP armor. No affiliation with AP, just a satisfied customer.1 point

Thank you all very much for your time and advice! As I said, I have already purchased the ABS stunt helmet but I have plans to emulate CableGuy Dan by using the green/khaki base coat (he managed to color match) to give it the HDPE look. Hopefully this makes the ABS of the helmet and whatever armor set I decide on not a problem at the end of the day because the main coat will be spay painted like the originals. I'm 5'11 and 190 lbs which is something I'm actively working on. I'll do some more research on what is best for my body type but the main goal is to look as if I walked off set in 1976. After seeing the other details that might be a problem with getting a DA Prop to level 3 it might be best to steer clear or make the changes required while building the armor. RS seems to be a great choice but they only provide fully completed sets of armor at this time. I was hoping to give myself a project and build my own. I have a lot to think about but I'm very gracious for the advice provided and I can tell this is a great community! Sent from my Pixel 7a using Tapatalk1 point

I've not printed them myself as yet, Qantas were a little heavy handed, after a trip to the other side of Australia for a rare LFL event a few years ago, going was fine but after the return I saw two baggage handlers carrying my crate to me and baggage claim, they managed to destroy a wheel in transit. Luckily I found replacement wheels and managed to fix the crate, these being 5 segments. I don't use the crate often, I like using a suit case for ease of packing and local travel but the crate is great for air transportation, well normally1 point

So I stumbled across this flash based soundboard on StarWars.com and I noticed it has some really cool official blaster sound effects straight from Ben Burtt himself at Skywalker Sound, just click on "Sound Effects & More" then click on "Blasters" and you can hear various blasters from the films. https://www.starwarsgamesonline.com/game/star-wars-soundboard Interesting fact about the blaster sound; Apparently while looking for "other worldly sounds" Ben Burtt discovered the support wires for a radio tower in the Nevada desert made an interesting "space gun" type of sound when struck with a piece of metal, he recorded this and combined it with a military bazooka layered in the background. There are a couple really great clear samples of E-11 Blast and Stun sound effects which would be perfect for blaster builds. Unfortunately Lucasfilm won't let us just download these sound effects and they are under copyright. Which means they can not be sold or distributed without the knowledge and permission of Lucasfilm Ltd. However just because there is no download option does not mean it's illegal for us to have a copy of the sounds on our hard drives nor does it prevent one from obtaining them. The fact that Lucasfilm has shared the sounds for free online streaming automatically means they are now in the public domain, omitting a download option discourages and helps prevent this but having a copy on your hard drive is not infringing any copyright laws and certainly not illegal. The sounds are not "Royalty Free" that's something totally different. The sound effects themselves are still copy-written and possibly even trademarked, which means one cannot redistribute or sell them in any way without possible legal consequences. But it is definitely not illegal for you to simply record sound coming from your own computer, you just can't redistribute or sell that sound if it's copyright material you don't own the rights to. Anyways, as you can see I have a professional home recording studio in my basement. I was able to use digital optical audio to transfer a full high-definition 44.1kHz 24-bit quality data stream from my MacBook into my MacPro, essentially downloading the raw audio data directly from the website. Not an analog audio rip, but a digital data stream of the sounds. An exact digital copy of the audio waveform my sound card is playing from StarWars.com, Perfect! Here is a photo of the optical digital audio coming out of my MacBook, which I then plug into my MacPro. If anyone is interested in the samples PM me or post here, I am willing to share my recordings with friends in the community. Just remember you cannot redistribute or sell these sounds to the public without legal consequence as they are copyright of Lucasfilm Ltd. Also for everyone interested having authentic "trooper chatter" from the films on your com system I also recorded all the stormtrooper voice clips from StarWars.com (thread here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/34943-official-lfl-trooper-chatter-sound-effects/ )1 point
