  1. Hey all, I'm routinely asked if I ever want to do a FOTK build. Due to the frequency of this question, I've formulated this response: "Yes. As long as it's either Captain Cardinal or Commander Pyre, but there's no CRL." Oh to my surprise when I saw Captain Cardinal listed in the Databank as a New to the Legion Costume in Progress. https://databank.501st.com/databank/New_to_the_Legion_Costumes_in_Progress With that said, I've heard a few different things circling around about potential Cardinal and Pyre CRLs, but it looks like information on the forum is somewhat limited. Also, while I lean more towards Commander Pyre (yes, I'm one of those guys who actually enjoyed Resistance) I love the Cardinal Character and would gladly add this costume to my never-ending build list. However, I really want to know if we have the full "blessing" from the LMOs before I commit to anything. Anybody want to get rid of a FOTK kit????? So with all that out there, if we do have the go-ahead, I'll plan on changing this topic title to The BigJasoni's Captain Cardinal WIP at a later date, but I want to make sure first. Now, swinging topics a little bit, I saw the Pyre discussion regarding realistic vs. animated armor. Personally, I'm not a big fan of differing between realistic and animated kits, i.e. Clone armor, because it complicates things. I understand that there's differences, but why? I had a similar conversation with the Underworld Detachment regarding Hondo Ohnaka and it kind of turned me away from doing the build. Regardless, Pyre would be my "dream First Order build," but I'm not getting the feeling that a CRL is ever going to happen. If any of you can answer my questions, I would be forever grateful. Lol Thanks as always!

  2. Painted a rivet on my Ammo Knee. Once it’s pretty dry I’ll flip it and do the other side. Also, I started to make the inner connections. Did the back side so far. Next I’ll do my thighs, and work on the front. …..and I have my ab button plates gluing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Gotcha thank you, I’ve spent most of the day shoring things up and bending things to fit better as well. I decreased the curve of my shoulder straps to lift that up a bit and will possibly shorten my front elastics and lengthen the rear ones on the chest piece/back plate which may also bring my shoulder bells forward a bit

  4. Did some work with my thighs. having larger things, there was a gap at the top in the back once I got them sized. The right thigh actually was wider once I actually had it taped properly to try and close the bottom. I used a piece of trimmed ABS that was about the same thickness and placed it in the gap then marked it with a pencil and trimmed it. ‘’I then placed a fairly thick cover strip over the gap and glued it and the gap insert using E6000. After 24 hours, I placed the outer cover strip on. To try and get the cover strip straight and centred at the bottom, there would have been a very thin edge to glue on the outer side. This allowed more area to glue the outer cover strip down at the top.

  5. Thanks Glen, Those are two of the threads I've been watching, almost since their creation. The paint job on @Sano's Pyre is especially what got me interested and led me to watch Resistance again. Lol. Also, what you said about needing a finished costume confirms what I was thinking. However, as I alluded, I've had a few separate conversations which led me to question whether this was happening, or if the detachment (or LMO) needed more justification for CRL creation. I think the main things throwing me off are the conversations about building a CRL off of an action figure, 'a la Mountain Trooper, and Pyre's absence on the New to the Legion Costume in Progress page. Since you brought it up, I wonder is if any vendors are willing to create animated armor. Other than resistance, do we have any other animated examples that would make the juice worth the squeeze? Is there a market? Are there any... cringe... 3D kits out there? @JAFO, I'm looking at you brother. Lol. I'm sure you guys know the feeling where you think "I'm not going to buy another kit," but deep down you know that all it'll take is a little whisper from a bad influence. Unfortunately, I've got plenty of those guys close by and I'm definitely feeling the urge. Fortunately though, I've got enough costume builds to keep me busy through my birthday, or possibly Christmas, but it's never too early to start thinking. Thanks again Glen, I'm afraid I'll be reading these threads again in their entirety over the weekend.

  7. I get the whole "troop as approved" vibe, but also... I want to be as comfortable as I can be while still effectively portraying the character I'm there to troop as. In my opinion, the general public neither knows nor cares that rubber gloves are 'accurate'... they're just stoked to see a real-life Stormtrooper! Props to the folks that make it work with liners and all, but I wear these as they are the thinnest, coolest black gloves I have been able to find. The long wrist cuff helps keep it tucked into your armor, the grip on the palm isn't noticeable, but helps you grip your blaster, and it's nice to be able to use a phone with the touchscreen reactive fingers to help guests take photos if needed! I've seen guys take the rubber gloves off and literally POUR out sweat, and that's not my vibe. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZY5G3ZC/ Typically on troops, my head and my hands are my two hottest parts (especially if there is a decent breeze, and followed by my lower back) so I obviously use fans in my bucket to help in that zone... and I use specific gloves to help with my hands. Ensure you remove the tags and connectors (easy, but possibly necessitating resewing the seam) and wash them first to ensure no leftover dye stains your armor, but I sure do like these gloves. The Nomex aren't terrible, but still pretty heavy, and I don't like (or need) the leather strip present on most. I use the ABS handguards supplied with my Anovos kit, but use a 1" elastic band around my palm, and then a thinner, 1/4" band around my wrist (admittedly a hair tie) to keep the plate snug when I bend my wrist. I'll snap some pics when I can, but just presenting another viewpoint. My rubber gloves and flexible handguards come out for photo sessions, but not for trooping in the Southern California sun...

  9. You will find one forearm is more rounded and the other oval, foam will definitely help. For a very small member I ended up using a heat gun, warming on both sides then applied some pressure to make the round forearm a little more oval, using a heat gun though takes a lot of practice perhaps the same could be achieved with a hot water bath. I still have two small pieces of foam in my forearms too, just to help stop any rotation, having the correct strapping in the right place can also help, which is mounted on the top of the forearms, many add it to the bottom
