Potty Meister
Got a little surprise today. I'm totally geeking out right now. I mean, total geekdom here. I'm a little nervous about starting on this thing, but there are plenty of tutorials around here to reference so I should survive. I don't think I've ever seen how the brow actually attaches...is it just glued on with E6000 or something?? Ima go get some tools now. MisterFubar[TK]
Hope you have better luck finding time to work on yours than I have. Mine has been sitting on my work table taunting me for like a month now.

Potty Meister
Made some progress tonight. Got the general shape of the eyes and teeth cut out and the edges trimmed off. Still need to fine tune. Sorry about the picture quality. The lens on my phone is slightly broken. Dremeled out the backs of the teeth A preview of things to come... Potty Meister
Okay, I think I've got the eyes and teeth where I want them. I'm wondering if the teeth need to be a little bigger but it's scary trimming to that fine line of too much ....thoughts? Also, I picked up some filing blade things from hobby lobby. They work great for the teeth. Edited June 14, 2012 by Potty Meister
Mogwai[TK]
Looks great, I have the same Helmet and Armor. I would cut the Teeth a little bit more, but not much. Looking forward, to see more pics from your build. Edited June 14, 2012 by Mogwai

HawkTrooper
I agree with Serge: I would trim the teeth a little bit more.
Potty Meister
apparently the upload size for any post is 31.5k now??? I can't get a picture posted unless I make it really small and crappy looking. not sure when that changed. Anyway, I've got the two halves of the lid put together, but the ears are a PAIN!!! My brother and I spent three hours trying to get one side to fit right and still couldn't get it. I would love to post some good looking pictures... Nirix[TK]
I would love to post some good looking pictures... If you have a Flickr account you could upload there then post either the links, or by using the BBCode. You don't have to use Flickr, could use Photobucket or any other picture hosting service you prefer. Edited June 17, 2012 by Nirix
Potty Meister
I remember I created a flickr account once upon a time....here we go! Ok...the STUPID ears. Maybe I'm just think about it too hard or being too much of a perfectionist, but I know it's possible to make them flush and I can't seem to get it. Potty Meister
With much patience and use of the force (and a steady a dremel), the first ear appears to be coming together. Do I need to trim some more off the top section?? I'm thinking that I can get it as close as I dare then just fill in the gaps with some white caulk or something...or is that not advisable? Or what do you guys normally fill in the gaps with? If anything at all... Any input is appreciated! Front: Back:
Mogwai[TK]
Just leave the gaps open. In the Movies, they had also some gaps. I think, that Ear look fine. When you screw this to the Helmet, it will fit better, you will see. Here you can see my ATA Helmet with the Right Ear. Potty Meister
I have both ears on now. These things are so hard to do! I've gotten pretty good with a dremel I still think the top section of the right ear is a little too thick and might trim that down some more to help make the bottom more flush. Also, are the eyes and teeth ok? Not a fan of these gaps... I don't have the screws tightened down all the way, but is this how everything is supposed to line up at the bottom?? HawkTrooper
The gaps at the ears make your helmet more screen accurate Very nice work on the helmet!
Potty Meister
making progress. I coated the inside with plasti-dip and got the lens and s trim installed. I'm thinking I'll just paint the parts inside that were masked off. If I was thinking I would've coated the inside before putting it all together, but too late now. Now it just needs some paint, mic tips and padding! Any recommendations for padding? What have people tried and what seems to work best? Potty Meister
Preliminary painting done. I've just noticed how crooked the top section of the helmet is compared to eyes. Not nearly as noticeable when the trim is on but still....I may end up trimming it down a little, but might wait til everything is painted to see how it ends up looking. Comments/input appreciated! Potty Meister
Finally starting to look like a real lid! Got the mic tips installed and two coats of grey on everything. Just need to do the tubestripes, ears, and stripes in the back and on the tears. This is the paint I've been using. Sorry it's blurry. It's Testors grey, gloss black, and bright blue. Picked up some thinner too. Saved me a couple times great for cleaning the brushes too

theisaac
I have the same lid. What I did for padding was go down to a sports store and got a cheap batting helmet and pulled out the soft foam inside and used velcro to hold it inside the lid. It already has holes for ears cut into the foam so you can wear it and still get some air flow. If you need pics I can post some but its pretty basic and works great. I think the batting helmet I got was 12 bucks. I got the Jr size since I just needed the foam from it. Isaac
