  1. I said "YOUR SHIN COVER STRIPS ARE ON BACKWARDS!"
  2. Hi everyone, Now that I am approved, I'm heading to my first troop next week at Toronto ComicCon and I need to get my fans installed in my bucket. My concern is with how loud they are. I have 2 x 40mm USB powered fans, running off of a lipstick style USB power pack. I'm worried about being able to hear over them. Thoughts? Thanks!

  4. Hi everyone, I received my approval yesterday and have signed up for 2 troops including the Toronto Comicon. I look forward to meeting many of you and to giving to the community. If only I knew: -Just how much information is out there! -That the advice on here is so solid. -Do more research, make more notes -Triple check your supply list -Just how darned HOT it is inside TK armor! Oops! -Gather all of your supplies and triple check your list. It will save a LOT of trips back and forth to the fabric stores, hardware stores, hobby stores, Amazon... A funny thing happened on the way to the Death Star: -My journey started with an email to a 501st member that I found on the 501st.ca site. He welcomed a total stranger (well.. he DID Facebook stalk me and talk to a mutual friend to make sure I wasn't a total psycho) with awesome advice, invited me to his home to see his armor, and has been there for me the entire journey, taking pictures, offering advice, and volunteering to help at any time. Thanks SO much to @Twosolitudes Shout Outs: @Twosolitudes @68Brick @gmrhodes13 @wook1138 and everyone else who helped, laughed, and kept me company during my build thread. Last of all to my dad. Last summer was spent at the hospital with my dad who was slowly wasting away to prostate cancer. The last conversation I had with him was when I told him I had finally found the Trooper armor that I wanted to order, and told him the price. He said "Buy it". The next day he was unconcious and unresponsive, and he died the day after. My TKID is in honour of him. His birthday was April 8 1934, and I am TK 40834.
  5. There are plans in the 3D section of these forums.
  6. Solid black non-textured undersuit with no visible logos (when the armor is on). My under armor had grey stitching so I actually got compression gear from Walmart. Neck seal you will need. There are a few sources like Trooperbay (order larger...they fit small) and Geeky Pinks Phantastic Gaskets (see Facebook).
  7. It's official! TK40834 reporting for duty! Just need my official forums access on here so I can EIB/Centurion
  8. Nice! My only thoughts are on the blaster: The weathering on the blaster grip... They should be gloss black from my understanding. Trigger? Selector switch? Trigger Group Retaining pin? Charging Handle and the slot?

  10. I think you need to get everything aligned properly first, then once you have your strapping in it will all line up. It doesn't look like you've cut out your notches yet either.
  11. Cool. I was just looking at Dengar a couple of days ago and trying to pick apart the pieces.
  12. Considering that a modded Rubies blaster is allowed at EIB I am a bit surprised to hear comments about your counter. I didn't realize the level of detail required I guess.
  13. Yeah it can be hard to take it slow... Just get lots of clamps and magnets so you can have multiple parts going at the same time.
  14. CA can pop off, so don't worry too much about using it sparingly. I think part of the issue is that you have a narrow strip to glue to due to the needed gap for your manly forearms.
  15. You could also try adding some CA to the inner strips when you glue them to get a bond. The E6000 and the outer strip should reinforce it.
  16. Strange that the glue is failing like that. You can try a slight bend in the strips to match your shape before gluing, and also try roughing up each surface with an aggressive sandpaper before gluing to help give it something to stick to.
  17. Approval email received! Just need to wait for the election dust to settle and I'll have my TKID!

  19. Here are the clearer pics, taken today:
  20. Start your build thread, and read lots. Ask lots of questions. Read more. Everyone here is super helpful. Have fun with your build!
  21. Even cheaper because I work at Rona lol.
  22. I just posted a ton of pics in my pre-approval request. I was emailed by my GML who said it should all be a go but he wants some clearer pictures. I'll have to take the actual shots of me wearing it tonight, In the meantime, I whipped up a mannequin out of ABS pipe in about 30 mins: (the left hand slipped...need to make it better next time I put the armor on him!) Material List: 3" ABS pipe - 12' 2"'ABS pipe - 6' 3" ABS "short" elbow - 2 3" ABS T - 3 3"-2" Reducing Flange - 2 2" 45 degree elbow - 2 Zip Ties to connect torso to shoulders Cut List: 3" Pipe: 4" x 2 (shoulders) 5" x 1 (waist) 17" x 2 (torso) 33" x 2 (legs) 10" x 1 (neck) 2" pipe: 8" x 2 14" x2
  23. Here are a whack more. I'll get live shots of me wearing the armor again tonight or tomorrow. Got my GML email and he just requested a few clearer pics and a good action shot. I figured I'd take the Centurion list while I was at it.
  24. Yeah mine were a fail too - Also AP. I've seen the 2-part CA glues with an activator work well but you need to make 100% sure your placement is perfect. I've had to order another set from Mark...
  25. Don't worry about the rivets. You can use nuts/bolts in there as they will not be seen. Your brow looks a touch high. Try lowering it and adjusting the angle, then tape the ears on and post a few pics. Worst case you could always trim more off the brow if you had to.
