I was struggling with this Vern, I did the same thing you did for my ESB bucket. Mark from AP looked at my pictures and said I needed to cut the step to around the mold line. I am a huge proponent of no gap, how did you end up going about this?
-
YOu're right Mark, I messed up. I asked around and I need to cut that step out. I even think it looks bad now. I'm going to go slow and trim where I need to to try and minimize the gap as much as possible

Again from experience if you keep the stuff in its tube it lasts a very long time and secondly yes it hardens in about 5-10 minutes after kneading, and applying into a rock hard state. It can definitely be painted. -

I feel your anxiety Anj, I'm the same way that's why we listen to FISD old guard! Take your time, research and be patient. Also listen to the advice below lol, I can attest to this first hand. -
It may or may not happen but I have my extra lenses cut, and my fix it stick ready, just have to trim my other ear and brow, we might had a paint ready bucket in the next little bit comrades!
-
I trimmed the back and front indentations a little more they are noticeable but I think it looks ok. I know I'm going to receive from flak about having excess ABS in those recesses.
-
Alright comrades, not sure how this will fly. but I think I got the dread right ear pretty darn good. Yes there is a bit of excess on the back... BUT... come on! Gap? Fahgettabout it! Let me know if this is acceptable to get up to that sweet cent status or will I have to go back and painstakingly dremel mm by mm again lol.

OMG please you can have the nickname lol I can't believe I missed this. -
I also think starting with the helmet might have been a bad decision. At the same time perhaps working with a part as intricate as this might make the other parts of the armour more manageable. Heck easier even lol.
-
Thanks man, it's very frustrating not to get instant gratification for this, but rushing as well as over thinking has proven several times to be a dangerous enemy.
-
Like I said I'm going super slow on this literally a mm at a time, fitting the ears marking where to trim next, fitting and repeat. I probably still have 3 or 4 mm of meat still on there
-
Exactly Mark. I will work slow and trim little by little. The back may need a little extra to close off the gap but your form lines are spot on!
-
Exactly I have those snips and I was following your lead Aaron, I saw you using this technique on your build thread
-
I will keep at it tonight. The dreaded ears are next... I may practice a bit more on my auxiliary ANH helmet that I warped
-
Dan my Man, I posted a picture of Mesh lol!
-
As you can see I am going extremely slow on the ears... Maybe I should try another part of the armour.... Better safe than sorry... again Also I', trimming exactly on the mold lines from Mark (AP)'s inside and let me tell you follow these it make it a lot easier And here's some Mesh lol Also what do you think I sanded the hell out of this thing to get it alright...
-
Yeah that is definitely an interesting thought. It's pretty great stuff and for 8 bucks it will last you a while the problem is it is not white. you can sand it and polish to a nice sheen though. I'd definitely try it out on some scrap brother.
-
Centurion all the way brother. Thanks always for the support man!

Sorry Guys. I'm still trying to get organized in the house. replaced the fridge today. Have to get unpacked and put things away. To top it off my cat got a hairline fracture exploring the tops of shelves in the basement so that set me back a bit... I'll try to get back at it as soon as I can. I keep seeing all this stuff about this kidney notch. ABS paste and all this nonsense I made some myself do I need to do the same thing for ESB?

Good taste my friend

I like music... maybe I should include a picture of my guitars
-
I wish I could use the beer as the excuse you should have seen the Pete Townshend arm whirl did lol. It was Rush, Caress of steel during the necromancer and I still had the exacto knife in my hand bad times... twas the worst of times..
-
to all the non-Rush Fans out there yes I was listening to a rush album air-guitaring and inadvertently sliced my hand open lol
