  1. There's twice as much plastic in a fotk.

That would certainly affect shipping and possibly breach a "band". But if thats the case, why not offer a chepaer slower option as well as air mail. If I've waiting 12 months whats another 6 weeks for a container on a ship?

Anovos just issued an update on their shipping prices. They are working on reducing prices and now won't charge you the shipping price until later next year as they work to reduce them. No guarantee that they will be much better but at least they are aware of the problem.

I've been takling to someone on their FB pages and have been pointing to the issues with delayed shipping payment/pricing.  It's a nice idea but they need a reasonably accurate estimate up front, they guess too low and people may not be able to pay the final bill and have to cancel, guess too high and people won't order in the first place.

  2. Hi David, which trooper are you after the Origional Trilogy or the First Order?

I have the OT kit and am cleared to centurion and really enjoyed the build.  Also bare in mind there are many other suppliers and they may well suit you better if your build isn't suited to the Anovos kit or you expecting to need spares, which Anovos aren't really supplying.  Best bet would be to join your local Garrison forums (looks like you'l be SCG http://southerncaliforniagarrison.com/)and speak to them.  You may also be able to see some of the kits built in person and see what you're getting into.

  3. I had a similar issue when I first suited up.  Removing most the return on the toop allowed me to pull the thighs up that little bit more and made all the difference, I don't even need cresants now.

Though as joseph suggests get everything else done first.  Final adjustments for fit and comfort need to be done as a whole really.

  4. Hi Nick welcome to FISD.

I can't comment on the ATA kit as we dont have many/any over here but the Anovos kit is a prety decent kit.  All kits have their pros and cons, do some research and try figure out what your requirements are and ask any questions needed.  I'd recommend reading some build threads on the various armours which will give you an insight into each armour.

Just make sure before you buy anything you know what you're getting into and that its from a known supplier.

  5. Hi Simon, welcome to the FISD.

The Shoretrooper, or Scarrif Stormtrooper depending one where you look, is sure to be a hot new costume over the next year.  At the moment it's very much in the R&D phase and probably will be until well after the film comes out.  I'm a member of a couple of facebook groups where alot of this work is being done and the first armour is just starting to trickle out but I suspect it will be a while until it's more generally available.  There's also no CRL, a requirement for 501st clearance, but several drafts are starting to form in various locations.

If the Shoretrooper is your goal then you're probably best popping over to Special Ops: http://forum.501stspecopsdet.net/ Current smart money is on them being the detachment that gets this cosume.

I'd also recommend you pop over to the UK Garrison http://www.ukgarrison.co.uk/, there are a few of us working on the shore at various stages and speeds so you won't be alone.

    Chris.

  6. This is how I did my traps: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/35424-themaninthesuitcase-anovos-ahn-stunt-build/?p=479783

For the lines around the edge, I just took my time.  Braced up as well as I could and even then I made mistakes.  Just have some kitchen roll handy and a bit of the appropriate thinners, though go easy on this.

If you make a mistake, I made several, wipe away straight away.  As the base grey is dry a quick wipe won't hurt it but will take away the wet paint with out issue.

if you're worried practice on a scrap piece.  Alot of the trick is getting the right amount of paint onto the brush.

  7. I have a similar style logo on my Sondico stuff.  The logo comes off pretty easy but to get the "glue" off has taken a LOT more effort.  Basically I use a t-shirt off cut then hold a pad of it soaked in acetone on then rub hard.  It's taken a lot of elbow grease but I'm getting there.  I wash it after each session and after 2 there's not much left at all and I'm hopign 1 more go and I'll be done.

  8. As far as undersuits are concerned, I have tried them all. One piece, two piece, motorcycle undersuits, sports compression suits, cheap, expensive, recommended and the rest.

And the one thing that is the most comfortable and cost effective - are of course the cheapest ones.

Im not sure if you have UNIQLO in America, but their 'HEAT TECH' undergarments are what I use and have been using for the last 18 months. They cost no more than $15 a piece for top and bottom, and all you have make sure is to buy at least a size down depending on how tight you want it.

Its super lightweight and durable for what it is, breathable and very quick to dry if wet. They also have an 'extra warm' version for the winter months. Same price Im sure.

    Hope this helps.

Whish I'd known about those a month ago!  No logos I can see either.

  9. Hi All ,want to start trooping and had some great feedback from people in here..considering SDS Stunt basically as its preassembled and trimmed , i know it will need some work to make it 501st cleared, I don't have the skills to trim and put a kit together.. What are your thoughts on SDS ..I know some of you have the kit is it OK . Ta

    sent from my Mobile

I'll echo the stay away from SDS, there's many reasons but ultimately there's better options, and not just the two already mentioned.

I'd suggest popping over to the UK Garrison and posting in our forums.  The armourer team will be able to point you in the right direction for you're needs and budget.

    Chris.

  10. RS should work well with the Anovos helmet, there are many who believe they are both based on the same original armour.

Looking at my Anovos helmet it does seem your gap between the face plate and cap is a bit larger how ever I've had mine apart so could be how I put mine back together.

For the frown I used Humbrol Enamel thinners and possibly some Isopropyl alcohol.  The thinners can be got at Hobbycraft (get a big 125ml one it evaporates FAST) and the IPA at a chemist, independents are more likely to have it vs a boots etc.  I just cleaned off all the grey and then repainted with Humbrol Enamel #5 Admiralty grey.

On mine I pulled out all the standard internal stuff as it's a bit pants.  For the lens I measured out and drilled the lens it's self to fit the screws that hold the ears on.  These screws should ideally be swapped out for some M3.5 counter sinks painted white (again i used Humbrol, white gloss).

    screws:http://www.spaldingfasteners.co.uk/metric-brass-countersunk-slotted-head-machine-screws-m3-m4-m6/I used the M3.5x 30mm long

    nuts: http://www.spaldingfasteners.co.uk/metric-coarse-brass-hexagon-full-nuts-m2-m3-m3-5-m4-m5-m6-m8-m10/

    washers : http://www.spaldingfasteners.co.uk/metric-brass-flat-washers-m3-to-m10/

    This shows my lens mounting.

For the padding I used some cheap tactical pads from eBay but a foam clover is also popular and was what was used on the set. The clover is just some 1" foam cut to a shape that works well in the bucket.

I wouldn't worry about plastidip. You'll find very few people bother in the UK and people I've spoken to who've done it here say it wasn't worth it.

The one other thing people will usually do on the Anovos helmet is either change the mesh or the whole mic tip (aka hovi tip). The mesh on the anovos is too fine, I swapped mine out for a bit cut from a poundland sieve but I'm still not 100% happy so might change them for some others in future.

My bucket refurb starts on this page and is a bit scattered amongst the armour build: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/35424-themaninthesuitcase-anovos-ahn-stunt-build/page-5

  11. Welcome to the FISD.

CE was a great event, looks like you got the Anovos bucket. You're kids made a good decision as I saw some lesser ones about!  I have their full armour, and was the first UK trooper to clear with it.

Before you order anything make sure you head over to the UKG and post an intro there.  The armourer team will be able to help you pick an armour right for you, we have a lot of options in the UK.  Chances you spoke to one of armourers already as one was on the stand at CE.  We also have different a clearance to most Garrisons so this will get you off on the right track.

If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message or post up here/on the UKG.  Just make sure you check with someone before you order anything!

  12. Welcome to the FISD, and if 501st is your goal, the UKG.

I would recommend you head over to the UKG and post a introduction there. The armourer team will be able to help you out regarding any purchases and lead you away from any duff kit and point you to the good stuff.

Also a quick thing to note is we have a slightly different clearance procedure in the UK and so heading over earlier makes that easier. You'll also be needing a blaster to suit your choice of armour to clear.

Both the UKG and FISD WIP threads are full of great info. It's probably be worth reading a few covering different armours to get a good idea of what they all involve.

  13. Hi and welcome to the FISD.

When budgeting also don't forget there will be other expenses on top of the armour you'll need assorted supplies and tools to build the armour, boots, an undersuit and for the Anovos kit a new belt.  Of course these costs can be spread out as needed but I would hate to see some one spending on the armour then not being able to finish.

  14. Welcome to FISD.

The Anovos kit is a nice kit, I have one, but there's a couple of small but very fixable issues.  Make sure you read through a couple of the build threads.  I also recommend starting one of your own as soon as stuff starts arriving.  Ukswrath, Kman and mine all cover all the things that will need fixing.

  15. Hi Jesse welcome to the FISD.

Once you've been cleared and been issued you'll be able to apply for 501st access which will give you access to the detachment merch.  I don't think there's a t-shirt run at the moment but I'm sure one will come up again at some point, though it probably won't be for a while.

You can apply for the 501st access here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/16-501st-trooper-status-requests-include-link-to-your-501st-profile-in-your-request/

    Chris.

  16. Interesting.  I'll have to look into whether my printer can handle ninjaflex or not... I haven't really done anything beyond PLA so far.

    https://ninjatek.com/products/filaments/ninjaflex/

Looks like you should be okay depending on the extruder/hotend.  You need a pretty enclosed path through the extruder to stop it bending all over the place.  It would probably work on mine but  don't know what the simple extruder is like.
