  1. Hi Andy,

Those Black Series helmets look pretty good but the Rogue one stuff is all still very much a work in progress.  As far as I know no one is making armour for the new Stormtrooper.

If you're just after any Stormtrooper rather than a Rogue One trooper specifically then the more common A New Hope (ANH) troopers are much more readily available. There's also the ESB and ROTJ if you're feeling slightly more adventurous!

What ever you're after just make sure you read up and as some questions before laying out any real money.

  2. If you're looking for spare parts I would not pick Anovos.  The kit is pretty straight forward to build, mien was by first and so far only build, but there are a few gotcha points which can catch you out if you're not expecting them.  Of course thats the same for any armour, so if you can read up as much as you can first that will help reduce unexpected issues causing you to mess up.

There's a few suppliers in the US, I don't know of any in Canada, those may well be your best option.  The TM option mentioned is great but you'll have to import it from England so shipping and customs will expensive. It is excellent armour though and will probably be what I end up with next.

  3. Thanks so much :duim: . We know we're going to need to do some trimming as she's "fun size" (5'4", her words not mine :P ). I think we'll avoid that one, given that neither of us are experienced builders at all, and if it's no longer in production sourcing replacement parts for the inevitable screwups will be a nightmare.

Your best bet is to contact your local 501st Garrison and have a chat with them.  They should be able to point you at a known source locally or at least where shipping won't cripple you!

For Ontario it looks like Capital City Garrison for you: http://capitalcity501st.ca/

  4. I wouldn't pay for the Anovos soft goods. I use the neck seal as I've not got another but the under suit has certainly been religated to a backup.

The neck seal is quite nice but I don't think it will last long. It's also quite big, which is great for my 17+" neck but I'm a minority, most people have loads of room.

  5. Hi Lance,

Welcome to the club! Certainly a bit faster than most of us got our kits!

Make sure you have a read through some build threads. ukswrath's thread is popular, I also liked Kman's and I feel mine covers a few bits many others haven't touched on.

My biggest advice is to take it slow and ask questions and know when to stop for the day.  This isn't a race and rushing or working tired or angry just leads to mistakes.

    Chris.

  6. That can't be right?!?!?

    Marc

It is! 0.136 (or 136 thou*) is about 3.4mm. Thou are quite a nice unit of measure for small stuff and the front sight isn't very big. 0.375 for example, which is the height, is about 9.5mm.

    * 1 thou = 0.001". A "tenth" is a "tenth of a thou" or 0.0001". Imperial is weird, but good for small measures as you can use whole numbers.

  7. It's been about 1,5 hours since I applied the Midnight blue paint - should I let it cure completely before I try the french blue top coat? Or should I try hitting it with the french blue now and remove the templates ASAP so they don't stick to the bucket?

Sorry for all the questions, it's my first time doing this and I'm a little bit freaked out :P

    -Christian

When I did my stripes I left 3-4 hours between coats.  I think that's what the tin said anyway.  Took 3 coats and I did a 4th out of paranoia.

  8. The chances are that the paint will have bled under the template.  So really you're starting over, clean off with thinners and start afresh.

However It might be worth trying a top coat in french blue and seeing what happens.  Worst case it's out with the thinners and you're no worse off.

The Humbrol brand thinners is safe on ABS too which is handy, and it also works pretty well.

If you have to start over you can seal the template with either a clear varnish or white.  This will bleed and seel the template and mean the blue can't resulting in less clean up.

  9. Wait wait wait.....EIB certificates? Someone shed some light?

You used to be able to request a certficate after passing EIB or Centurion.  These were created manually by a staff member who has since stopped.  They looked really nice and where available in letter or A4 for you to print at home.

  10. Hi :-)<br><br>

I've looked around the UKG and created an account. Just waiting to see if I get approved now. ;-) I'll probably order the voice amp stuff at the end of October. I think I'll get hold of some velcro to stick it into the armour.<br><br>

Want to wear it to the midnight showing of Rogue One, but I hear it's a combination of not a good idea to sit in and extremely hard to sit in anyway. lol So it's a case of, do I spend the night looking awesome, the epitome of militaristic beauty and stand to the side of the seats to watch the movie? Or just turn up in my usual fanware and get to sit down for the duration? lol

Sitting isn't really going to happen.  There will almost certainly be troops at some of the showings on opening night if you can get the kit built, cleared and get to an induction before that.  I wouldn't expect a cinema to let you in with the bucket on (which you're required to do at all times once cleared in the UKG) and I'd be surprised if they let you stand for the showing.

I'm probably troop opening night if there's one handy and then go on Saturday or Sunday like I did for TFA.

  11. Try using smaller diameter magnets. They function the same yet with less breakage because of the smaller surface. Larger will crack regardless however, with tape at least it will keep them in one place. my 2 cents

I found the smaller ones didn't have enough pull to them but it might have been I just needed stronger ones.

I have around 20 of the 20x3mm ones and I think all are okay, I did chip a 10mm one though as they were too small to hold properly and slipped.

  12. Welcome to the FISD.  The RS stuff is good and should see you well.

If you've not already done so I highly recommend signing up over at the UK Garrison.  The UKG procedure for clearance into the 501st is slightly different to most and so it's best to head over there before you get started.  A good example of this is a blaster is required for basic clearance, despite the CRL saying it's optional.  The armourer team over there know their stuff and well see you right.

That said, do work here too as I found it helpful to get multiple prespectives on stuff.

For the voice stuff theres a HUGE list these days iComm, Rom/Fx, TK Talkie, Troopr Talk, trAmp and TKVoice off the top of my head.  There's something there for all skills and budgets.  At least 2 of those are UK based, one is a reasonably simple DIY project that could be done here too.

    Chris.
