  1. Hi Martyn,

whats the protocol with meets etc? Do i need to get the armour first or can i start attending events as an observer as i start my build? Im currently researching who to contact for my armour as i will be one of the larger troopers, i am just over 6 foot tall and weigh about 19 stone, although i do carry it quite well, lol.

    Cheers

    Mike

First sign up with the UKG. This will get you access to the forums and mean you can start your WIP and beging the path to clearance. The armourer team are very good at what they do and will be able to guide you regarding the fit.  Speak to them and they can guide you to the right kit.

In order to attend a troop in the UK you do need to have a cleared costume, I know this isn't the same everywhere but it's how it is here.

For you're first troop you'll need to attend an induction troop where you'll be given a safety breifing and also a few pointers.  You'll spend the first morning spotting for the cleared troopers.  This gives you a chance to learn by watching and also ask questions from the other spotters about what they and the troopers are doing.

In the afternoon you'll be given the chance to kit up.  There will be a final inspection of you're kit before you recieve you're shoulder brand and join the ranks of the UKGarrison.

As you're in Essex I'd recommend aiming for an MCM London induction.  Bit of a baptism of fire as its a HUGE con but great fun and you'll get to see the Reel Icons doing there thing too which is always fun.

  2. Not really got anything yet. Have already join the 501st board as well as satjusthere. Was recommend to join here also. Have some friends already in the 501st so shall be defiantly using before I buy anything. Looking at starting my build in the new year. But any more help would be more than greatful for :)

If you've not bought anything yet make sure you have a chat with the UKG armourers (or pm me I guess!) and they will make sure you start on a good path.  Though if you know a few people already then you might well already know what you're doing!

  3. Hi Micheal, welcome to the FISD.

If you're wanting to join us at the UKG then the best time to join is early!  The armourer team are friendly and helpful and will make sure you don't buy a lemon of a kit.

Would be cool to see you're Boba too.  Im always impressed by the amount of detail people put into that costume.

  4. I have also signed up to the UKG where I will also be posting a WIP thread.

My work here is done  :laugh1:

Welcome to the FISD, The armourer team over at UKG will make sure you see your way into a great set of armour.  Though do keep a copy of the WIP over here, I found the more social side here quite a boost at times vs the mentor one over at the UKG.

A lot come here with statements saying they aren't crafty but with some practice and care you will do just fine.

There's a fair few folk in Wales, and fairly regular troops but I don't know where abouts you are vs where most of the Welsh lot are.

    Chris.

  5. Hi Peter Welcome to the FISD.

You haven't said but have you bought anything yet? If not hold fire until you've researched and spoken with people.

I'll also recommend you head over to the UK Garrison http://www.ukgarrison.co.uk/forum andsign up there.  We have our own set of clearance procedures that differe a bit from the rest of the legion.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me or humperdingle who's also an Attache for the UKG or just ask a question.  You'll find people will go out of their way to help you both here and over at the UKG.

  6. Welcome Gary,

I'll start by warning you off re-manufacturing parts.  This is highly frowned upon and will get you excomunicated pretty fast!

Seeing as you're in the UK I would head over to the UK Garrison http://www.ukgarrison.co.uk/forum/and starting a WIP thread over there if you're interested in joining us trooping.

Trooping is basically a fancy way of saying attending an event in costume.  By doing this with the UKG you gain the support of other members to help kit up, have someone spot for you to ensure you're safe and also you get the benifit of being covered by the garrisons PLI.

It's also amazing fun.  Kids, young and old, all love seeing the characters in the flesh and you wil allways make someones day.

Of course you can do this on your own, or with other groups, but if you want to be part of the 501st legion and get the benifits that comes with check out the UKG.

  7. Welcome, if you have a look in the build thread sections you should be able to find some SDS threads.  Also have a look at some of the EIB or Centurion threads, a few SDS kits have been taken to Centurion so those might be useful to see what's been changed on them.

If I was you start a build thread, show what you have and hilight anything you already know is an issue and we will be able to help guide you.

  8. Hello Everyone

Had a very productive time reading through this 6 year long thread - all very informative and helpful. What a great forum.

So, I'm looking at finally purchasing kit - at 46 years old I'm getting no younger and want to finally achieve that childhood dream of becoming a trooper...

I'm not practically minded (or confident enough) to do a build from scratch/kit so I'm, looking at a ready to go set. I've got in mind that if I'm spending a decent amount so I should really at some point go for 501st approval so I can get the most out of it, and really get involved - why invest and then leave it on a mannequin most of the time! By the looks of things a couple of the sets I'm looking at are almost 'approval' ready, bearing some minor alts which I think I should be able to deal with.

So my question is this - I've narrowed it down to the RS Commission or SDS Original Standard. I know there's pros and cons for both, and that the RS has literally everything included and is made-to-measure, and to be honest it's the one I'm leaning to more. I know that the RS is the one people go for for authenticity and 'real feel', and that the SDS is a more 'polished' version.

Between those two options, which would people recommend?

Any comments gratefully received - and apologies if this isn't quite the thread to add this too.

Guessinging from the list are you located in the UK?  If so make sure you head over to the UK Garrison and sign up there.  It's also worth considering a self build still, lots of help is available to those who ask and also it helps keep the costs down a bit.

    Chris.

  9. The EIB and centurion logos are available in the staff area so that won't be a problem. My only hesitation is that Tim has already said that something was in the works and I'd hate to see a waste of effort due to duplication.

Edit: oops there was a 2nd page.

Is the script on the server, which is why it requires a login? Is there a way to automate more or at least be able to run it on a personal system?
