HOW TO: Support pads for Mr NoStripes bracket system.
ukswrath replied to ukswrath's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
Yes. Then decided not to because I didn't want to deal with the gluing. Thanks for your input -
In this short "HOW TO" I'll be illustrating how to make and install support pads that will be used with Mr Nostripes bracket system. The reason for the support pads is due to the thin Armor material I encountered while building my Anovos TK. The height of the trooper was exerting a good deal of stress on the bracket mounting screws. Fearing the armor may eventually crack over time I made simple support pads from scrap ABS that would help distribute the stress throughout the length of the brackets instead of just at the mounting screw. This is not screen accurate nor is it absolutely needed. It is a solution to a problem with this particular armor and trooper. If you're experiencing a similar situation regardless of armor, this may work for you as well. If made correctly the pads are unseen from outside the armor. Material: 1 or 1.5mm ABS or similar Tools: Steel ruler Exacto knife Pencil or sharpie Drill and bit Screw driver Nut driver or pliers PPE: Glasses Cut resistant gloves Getting started. Using left over 1.5mm cover strip material, measuring the end to end bracket length. Mark the mounting screw location Drill holes at screw locations. Cut out pads Install between brackets and armor. The Mr Nostripes screw are long enough to incorporate the pads. Original setup With pads

How about this, I'm not into pointing out what you did or didn't do correct. Instead I'll attempt to lead you in the right direction. When you're ready start a build thread, we'll help you get from from start to finish.

Glad to be of assistance Jim. The FISD has many talented builders, some that could even leave me standing in my tracks. THT

That is correct, swoops forward

My trooper should be 501st approved anytime now so here's the final pics. He's 6'1" @ 175lbs Note: I'll be changing out the pop rivets for more accurate cap rivets after approvals and post the change. As Germain noted earlier cap rivets are more accurate. At the time of the belt assembly I didn't have any and my trooper was anxious to get in his armor and get through approvals. Brackets are shown with the additional ABS support pads. The support pads are not screen accurate and are not required. They we're installed to help prevent chronic stress cracks in the armor due to the wearers height, which was putting a lot of strain on the mounting screw to armor connection. This concludes the build portion of this thread. The following pages are questions, comments, corrections, suggestions, general chat, etc. Thanks for following and hope this has helped you with your build.

Sorry for the delay Albert, the armor should float on your body however, climbing into my ab section is like strapping on a corset
-
Thanks Adam Edit: May switch it up a bit and dawn a pauldron this time. So much fun having the ability to switch up

Docking Bay specials, I believe you've got it. Would love to have a pair of these bad boys

Sorry, It didn't remove the paint on mine.

Now that there other 501st approved armor builders out there, shirts and any other swag should to be on non-exclusive sales threads. The shirts are neither Anovos or 501st so it shouldn't matter anymore. As for the FB page, that's going to be up to Anovos and their NDA.

If you have 501st FO TK armor I don't see why not, but that's just my 2 cents

What are we approving here? -
Hey Marc sorry if my last post came across as accusatory, that wasn't my intention, I do apologize. Your thighs look fine (overlap method). If you wanted to give it that extra accuracy touch by adding cover strips I see your point, but to be honest I think they look just fine the way they are. Not only that the cover strips may make the ridge look too tall. That said, it's your armor and you can do with it what you like. Besides accuracy we also encourage creativity. What a boring world we'd live in if there wasn't any right?

Yep

I would yes however, it is heavy and you'll feel the weight on your head on long troops. Par for the course I guess.

Pyrates AP Build and Journey to The 501st
ukswrath replied to Pyrates's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Yo G! Hurry up and take your time with this build already -
Hey Marc so I want to make sure you understand the approval requirements before moving forward making any more improvements. At basic and EIB the overlap method is perfectly exceptable however, without correctly making the connection repairs (overlap to butt and strip), this is as far as this armor is going to go I'm afraid. Adding cover strips to make it look more accurate is one thing, to hide a required correction for approval is another. I'm not saying that's what your doing I just want to make sure you understood. Also, for L3 the chest will most likely have to be considerably altered being it's considered too big, and the back plate will have to be replaced for the same reason, it's too big unfortunately. The thigh ammo belt may have to be replaced unless you can adequately repair it by adding material to the overall length. There's just not enough material at the end to square off the top edge and still have the correct amount left over to mount it to the thigh. It looks like you're pretty creative so this may not be a issue for you. I don't mean to discourage you I just wanted you to have all the facts before moving forward any further.

Hey brother, all it takes is some practice, patience & persistence. We all started at the same experience level. I've helped people like yourself with little to no experience build some awesome armor. When you're ready there's many experienced builders here that will be ready to guide you.

haha yea only took 6 months
