  1. Toddo is in my garrison and I see him on a semi-regular basis. FYI guys I'm not disputing how they were constructed, however typically the 501st favors standards of what a person sees on screen. This is why any non-visible detail such as how they were put together on the inside, e.g. the strapping system (snappers/pops vs. brackets) will never be part of 501st standards. This is not just with TK's, this is on all 501st costumes (and there are scores of them). The Power of Costumes may have been at the EMP at one time, but most recently it was at the Pacific Science Center, fwiw. Currently the 501st standard allows rivets already, so to be clear we are simply allowing them to also be visible on EI/Centurion. Making them allowable is a pretty easy fix. What wording would you supply?
  2. Christoph - if I ever see you in person, I owe you a beer. Perfect post!
  3. I wore an FX suit with AP helmet for years with success. You should do well.
  4. The article is pretty spot on about stormtroopers, with the only exception being marksmanship, which is an unfortunate meme based in rebel propaganda. A good read, but what caught my attention was the note that we are unquestioning loyal. Maybe our official motto "Unquestioned Loyalty", is being noticed. Time to get the detachment propaganda office a beer http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/12/22/rogue_one_storm_troopers/
  5. We are all equal here as 501st stormtroopers. EI & Centurion are very nice costume recognition achievement awards, but a 501st member is no different than any other.
  6. The E-11. There is only one TK I remember that doesn't not have an E-11, all others IIRC even if they have the DLT-19 have an E-11 holstered.
  7. Thanks Paul! These were very difficult to make out when the movie was running.
  8. You know, I watched ANH in Blu-ray the other night and I'm wondering if they were all this way, or just some. Looking at Luke & Han in particular it seems black elastic was used, and I can't see any white elastic. I'll try watching it again today...
  9. FWIW, it could be that they were indeed assembled with rivets on the shoulder straps, but if so they are not visible when I watch the movie on screen. Even with Blu-ray, maybe the resolution wasn't great? If you can show a screen grab, that would be awesome.
  10. OK, I went through all the scenes in ROTJ Blu-ray and didn't see any rivets on the shoulder straps at all. If you can see a screen grab where it's visible, I'm happy to be wrong here. Also, while there are a few that didn't have TD's, the majority did and the film goes by so fast you'd miss the ones that didn't. It's like in ANH there are 2 troopers that don't have TD's, but the rest of them all do.
  11. Pinned! Great reference!
  12. Add a pack, pauldron, and ammo pouch, drop the drop boxes and thermal detonator. You can do a regular ANH TK with a DLT-19 (there are a few in ANH, including Han in disguise), but no pauldrons.
  13. We should see it together next time your on this side of the pass. I never thought of it as a fan film, but it makes sense in that light. There are so many odes to the previous 6 movies it's hard to keep track. My daughter didn't notice them, but I sure did. - I've got a bad feeling about this - Use of music from EP2, EP4, EP6 at least - The noise of the mouse droid when they are in the data center - Dialog from x-wings copied directly from EP4, including those old actors faces (Red Leader, Gold Leader, etc.) - Now we know why Luke could take Red 5 as a callsign - desert planet (again) - one of the assault team is just like the ughnauts, wasn't he? - Death star firing sequence - Vader force choke - Using one star destroyer to take out another - The defense gun used at the research center looks just like the ion cannon from Hoth I could go on and on - too many homages to count. I still can't believe how well they did Tarkin. Well, I'll see it tomorrow for sure. Most of all I'm happy I enjoy the film as when I saw the trailers I thought "this will suck eggs"
  14. Er, Michael, that is what we have. 3 tiers. They are fully explained elsewhere on these forums, and all over the Legion. I can explain them again if there is confusion. Mark - there is a Venn between prop replicators and the 501st. While there is a lot of overlap, pure prop replication is not what the club strives for. We emulate the canonical costumes seen on screen, whereas prop replicators try to replicate what the prop actually was, even if it doesn't quite look that way on screen. Star Trek original props look like crap for instance, and people doing Star Trek costumes today make much nicer props than what the TV show had. SW is no different.
  15. So, I finally got around to seeing it. Man, it was way, way better than I thought it would be. Now, to see it again! In fact, I think I may have enjoyed it more than EP7. I have to see it at least a second time to be sure...
  16. Stay on target everyone...your getting off on a tangent from the main discussion.
  17. Man, I love the pictures and diligence on this build thread. The persistence is amazing, as is the end product. Would you be open to us moving this to the public boards?
  18. Truth. I'm very sorry to hear about your situation, and hope it works out to your satisfaction in the end.
  19. No worries at all - I'll watch through it today as there is no substitute for a recent viewing and will post by tonight.
  20. We only recently allowed packless sandies, and it is still a contentious point as they are more background characters and it's a major element of what you remember seeing on screen. Just because it's seen on screen doesn't mean it's an option. Mr. No Stripes being but one example.
  21. Oh, and WRT to the GMLs...there are several ways to get the word out: 1. Post in the GML area of the 501st boards that the change is coming, and also when it does come. 2. FISD newsletter (goes out to 1000's of people) 3. Announcement on this forum 4. FISD Attaches - get them to get the word out on the ground too. If we do make an Endor ROTJ, then I think we can also offer a prize to the first trooper who fits the bill. Again, I really appreciate you going to bat for these changes, and apologize for somehow missing this thread earlier.
  22. Hi Mark, 1. Rivets -> 100% agree with you. I can own getting this change started. 2. Overlap -> I get what you're saying. I'd like to look at the movie again honestly, as sometimes what you "see" in the movie isn't 1:1 to the prop, e.g. detail is lost. It's quite possible it is not as bad (e.g. looking) as some think. 3. TD -> Again, let me look at the movie. I think there is agreement on an "Endor" version of the suit, and this may fit in. Speaking of which, your thought to have clearance for an Endor vs. Death Star makes sense. Biker scouts are the same way - clean Death Star OR dirty Endor. In the beginning, there actually was only 1 CRL to encompass all 3 films, and now there are 4. Even if it doesn't merit its own CRL, I can't see any reason not to offer it as a valid variant. So far, I'm not hearing anything unreasonable, or not worth considering. The rivets for sure could be changed easily enough.
  23. Is it heavy?
  24. So where does this leave us? I read through this entire thread and am not 100% sure if you still want changes to the CRL or not? I think most concerns were answered, but I am not 100% sure. From what I read, the CRL already allows rivets, the TD for many reasons stated will remain, I can see the holster becoming optional, but would prefer to watch the movie again for myself. I am not sure I saw anything definitive on construction, but am happy to be wrong. Mark (sskunky), pictures aside, what would your recommend textually be changed on the existing CRL? Again, with the knowledge that the 501st does not have a goal - across all costumes, not just stormtroopers - to replicate flubs, one-offs, mistakes, etc. which is different from pure prop-replication builders. http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_rotj
  25. Updated first post. A great light has gone out indeed, and we can only pray that she is at peace. I will always remember this scene in particular, surrounded by stormtroopers, defiant, confident. For many boys, our first true crush.
