+1. We should probably put this in a TIP. If someone wants to do this as a tutorial, we'll sticky it for sure.

Well, the TLJ & TLJ-Executioner are the same armor, the only difference is paint. Can you post a pix. For the mesh, what we're saying is that the mesh is behind the teeth. The CRL makes no mention of whether it is cast in or not. As long as it looks correct, it should be OK.

Thanks Reese. Could we not have a few levels of accuracy for the CRL? E.g. L1 allows Christian's design as well. We can simply say that it's a black cylinder approximately x" in diameter and x" long. The holster needs to be black and attached to the belt. @ L2 then we can say that the baton is painted semi-matte and needs to be externally attached to the holster. @ L3 then we can say it is made of metal or wood and has 2 points of attachment, and give the approximately dimensions of the snaps. We can also say that the "holster' is a simple strap of leather x" long looped over the belt. What do you think?

Wow, that's pretty neat! Great tip from Joseph

Prescription Lenses for Helmet
Daetrin replied to Hedjii72's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Thanks! I'm going to see my eye doctor next week, this is a good idea as I have trouble getting my glasses comfortably under my lid. -
How good is the optics on each? I ask in that I had a set of bubble lenses on my first TK helmet that were highly problematic, but on a Hero helmet Appling did for me, he made them such that it wasn't any harder to see out of than regular flat lenses. So, depending on how they are curved they can be a headache or highly useful.

Yup. ATA does a lot of orders for ANOVOS replacement parts, e.g. ANOVOS parts that wear out and break. His prices for parts are excellent.

"TK" Designations for First Order Troopers
Daetrin replied to Jayben Kenobi's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
Correct. Your "number", e.g. 19736 stays the same forever. If you do a biker scout, it just means than you can use either TK-19736 or TB-19736. The two letter prefix is just a costume category identifier. FWIW, there is not a 1:1 correlation betwixt detachments and costume designators. For instance SL (Sith lord) is covered by both the SLD & FE detachments. IOC covers ID, IC, and IN. For awhile FISD covered both TK and TD, as HWT was under the TD costume designation originally. The reason why your Legion ID and TKID are different is because in the early days TKIDs were recycled, e.g. if I left the Legion, then someone new could also be TK-8020. They don't do that anymore, but is why there is a need for both. -
"TK" Designations for First Order Troopers

OMG - LOL. Bet that's how it started. "Crap, we can't call our lead male Tick." -
"TK" Designations for First Order Troopers
Daetrin replied to Jayben Kenobi's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
It's important to remember that costume designators are really more of a costume grouping and are only created when there is a gap. For instance BH is Bounty Hunters, and even though Mandalorian Warriors aren't bounty hunters, since the armor is the same they all end up getting a BH anyway. In earlier days of the Legion it was easier to get new costume designators created, but it became abused (RP anyone?) and now the bar is really high. Lastly, the books are written by people who just make stuff up. Look at TK-421. Probably more than 1000 stormtroopers in the Legion, so they can't all be TK-something. Finn is FN and the presumption is that the two letter designator is more a unit designator. If we really followed the books, people could in theory just make up whatever two letter designator they wanted and still be a stormtrooper. While this makes interesting fiction, it's too unwieldy for a real-world costuming club. -
To the Type 1 troopers offering ideas I tend my I love your spirit of helping out others.

Congrats!

Wow, you guys are really, really making it tough on the judges. These designs are phenomenal.

Question - did the kit come with the ab & cod separate, and also the back/butt? And...take a look at your new permission group. You'll see all the new FISD only sections now - congrats on your TK! Lastly, you know, now that there are EI sections, you could be the first Rebels TK Expert Infantry. Just sayin!

Wow, this is truly awesome news. Both are solid changes and I want to thank everyone who contributed to making this happen.

I'm pretty sure it's there. Gary, clear our your browser cache and refresh. hahahahahaha
-
FYI, I shipped this off to the LMOs for review. Huge thanks to Eric for getting the photos going. We'd be toast without that!
-
Hey Eric - clear your browser cache and hit refresh LOL Fixed. The movie quote I have to defer to the LMO about, that's part of the standard TK verbiage.
-
Thanks everyone - I fixed all the issues you mentioned. I'll let it sit for a few more days and if there is nothing more, off to the LMOs it goes. I think for weathering we are trying to capture to how it appears to the eye on screen as has been mentioned. To me at least I'm not seeing anything that looks like a "clean" TK should. As has been mentioned this is likely due to the artists making it easier to show depth, etc. In any event, subtle weathering is just that, subtle, to add shade and depth. Also, the fact that it's L2 gives us room to maneuver.

I will reserve an extra special piece of exclusive merch for the winner, too.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Here is my ruling based on feedback, source material, and also having made CRLs for 10 years and realizing that L1 isn't meant to be "perfect" (it certainly isn't Legion wide), e.g. L1 should be consistent to other TK and non-TK costumes in the Legion. 1. Neckseal: I'm allowing ribs for L1, and not for L2 2. Armor: weathering is now L2 3. Forearm: I'll remove the # of segments, people can see if it "looks right" from the picture. The OT TK CRL doesn't mention the number of raised boxes anywhere either, not on the belt, arms, thigh ammo pack. Nowhere. 4. Back plate: I'll allow overlap on L1, but not L2+. ANH TK's are the same. 5. Boots : Yes, regular OT TK boots are fine for L1 6. Grey Lines: Yes, we should mention this as needed. Please lmk if I missed anywhere. 7. Added pauldrons. OT ones are OK for L1. 8. The stickers is relating to back in the day FX kits came with metallic stickers to simulate the metal hooks we use now. It's a legacy item I can remove.
-
Typically we'll keep regular pauldrons as L1 and nice ones for L2/L3 when they emerge.
-
I'm in alignment with that, I think the question is how badly should it be a requirement for L1. Thanks for showing the shot of the pauldron - I'll need to add that as an accessory.
-
Updates made. The only question is if we should require light weathering for L1 or not. it's in there now. Any other comments, lmk. My goal is to let this be a Q&A for a week and have it sewn up in time that we can get the LMO's to sign off before end of month.
