Non-Canon Stormtrooper
Daetrin replied to WhiteCommando's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Say, that armor looks quite similar to this I wonder if they're from the same source...And those decals...they look like those cool ones that are removable so you can change paint schemes...wonder where you got those from ;-) -
Non-Canon Stormtrooper

For a 501st approved costume it's up to the LMO. Having three sources helps, but what he's really looking for is permanence in the SW universe. Doesn't mean you can't to this costume, just means it probably won't be considered acceptable for 501st status as an EU trooper. -
Deployment Standards - ANH - Beta 2

Gotcha covered Jason - it's certainly going to be in the proposal. No reason not to when they are readily available from two very good sources, the cost is relatively minimal, and the installation is easy. -
ROTJ bucket from LFL molds
Daetrin replied to javamonkey's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
That was the sound of my jaw dropping. What a find! Has anyone brought up doing a run of these? There aren't a lot of ROTJ stormtroopers out there, but this would certainly be the bucket to get if you ever did one. -
Non-Canon Stormtrooper

There is EU, and there is 501st accepted EU. If you want to do a custom costume of any kind, whether it be something you read in one book or this prototype, my hat's off to you. 501st EU is of course the province of the LMO. I think it's cool that someone is attempting this - kinda like making real life models of Da Vinci drawings. -
Deployment Standards - ANH - Beta 2
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Regarding side gaps - it would be good to decide as a group whether that was intentional or not. I suspect not - there were many other goofs in the film (missing tube stripes, etc). For belts, this will ultimately be up to the membership to decide. My personal feeling is for canvas or canvas covered belt. I have a leather and love it, but if the purpose of deployment standards is to be film accurate, than that's what I'd think we should go with. -
I used a snap system that connected the chest & back - I'll take a pix tonight & post.

Deployment Standards - ANH - Beta 2
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
We're (command team) working on the final draft now as we want to include visual references to dispel any confusion as to what the text means. The ANH proposal will 100% be up for voting by the end of the month, with the ESB & ROTJ versions to follow, both to be completed by the end of February. -
Do you mean along the tops, or on the sides, or both?

No, I'm not sure the muzzle's should be covered. The 501st banner was added later to comply with Legion guidelines. If someone has the chops to modify the files and can do quick-turnaround work, please PM the XO.

The corrected version of the logo arrived today and can be found at: http://www.whitearmor.net/uploads/whitearmor_logo_FINAL.jpg It *may* end up being tweaked to ensure that the right blaster is modified to remove the ejection port and add the clip, but otherwise it's *done*.

I got it last night. Mr. Zahn was very gracious and included both their names & everything you requested. Please PM me for shipping info. Also, where are they located? He was wondering where they were, in coordination with his book schedule. Whether you like his writing or not, he's pleasantly gracious in person.

I'm getting it as well. Just didn't want you guys to think it wasn't noticed, but it's really hard to pin down as it's sporadic in nature.

Should the thermal detonator be required?
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in ANH (Stunt and Hero)
In the end it's up to the LMO. I suspect though that the standard would read that the costume standard required equipment includes the detonator, and the grappling hook + comlink are authorized optional equipment. This doesn't mean that you have to troop with the TD at all, but it does mean that you need to have it to be accepted, as you may have to do a canon event. -
Should the thermal detonator be required?
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in ANH (Stunt and Hero)
FWIW, the Legion TD requirements are under review and I'm quite certain the bar will be raised to include dirt among other things. Dirtless variants will all fall under different costume names (e.g. Heavy Weapons Troopers). And it can easily be argued that the current MEPD standards being high is what inspires people to reach them. No question about it troops - in the coming weeks the FISD staff will be offering up higher "deployed" standards of our own - the better to promote higher standards for TKs. -
Nice? It's amazing. I challenge anyone to provide pix of a better ESB lid!

For my taste I'd like the rubbed off area on the left tube to be a little smaller/subtler. And yeah, I can see about the eyes. Still, it looks more like something that came from LFL archives and is the best ESB I've seen to date. I'd like to see more people following in your footsteps - this is a very under-represented version of the TK and IMHO I suspect it's due to lack of a role model of how good it can be. Outstanding work!

What Brian said! We'll need to do a proper comparison between RT-AP-TE2 when you're done.

What makes an ROTJ stormtrooper
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I suspect the lack of TD is more an error or to make that stunt easier. I watched the same scene yesterday and did note the belt that is much skinnier. These are great ref shots of the trim btw For the butt - it does look different - I'd think we'd vote on that as a separate detail. Great job -
Hook instead of thermal detonator
Daetrin replied to Schaf's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
What he said My TE2 armor is near done and I'd love to have this on my belt -
Notes on convention: ANH = A New Hope sized buckets that derive from TE's work, e.g. AP/TE/RT/Gino, or or similar in size. A.N.H. = Another Nice Helmet - the bucket being reviewed here. The A.N.H. is a 100% fan sculpt from Kevin at ImperialSurplus.Com. I saw pix of it over on the 501st boards awhile back and didn't give it much notice at the time, but after seeing it firsthand at the TOR Parade I was very impressed. Background story on this helmet and it's creation can be found here: Imperial Surplus . Intended primarily as an upgrade for troops currently using the FX bucket, it would also make a good replacement for those not happy with their current ANH lid (e.g. 'cause it's too small or is not symmetrical or whatever). Highlights: 1) One piece construction. Basically that means fully assembled so no worrying about aligning screw holes fitting ears with a heat gun. Eyes, frown, and neck need to be trimmed, but if you want a finished bucket they'll come fully trimmed for a nominal fee. 2) It's very durable. Made from rigid urethane it's stronger and less brittle than resin, and comes out glossy white. I handled a prototype that was heavier than most ANH buckets, but was assured that later models would be a similar weight to other buckets. I didn't try drop testing it, but the one I handled was very sturdy, and IMHO while heavier than vac formed buckets was easily light enough to troop in. It was certainly more rugged than my AP. 3) It's slightly bigger than an AP/TE/Gino (haven't check it to an RT yet). Not too much bigger and certainly not as big as an FX, but enough that it should fit folks for whom most ANH buckets are too small for, and allows that much more room for fans, etc. - real estate being notoriously precious in other ANH lids. It's also much easier to put on/off due to the increased area around the neck. 4) It's a symmetrical sculpt. Other ANH buckets are all asymmetrical as they derive from screen used buckets (which were not perfect). While some people like the asymmetry of ANH as it harks back to the originals, others do not and so having it be pure in this regard is a plus. 5) The lines on this helmet are fantastic from every angle as you can see in the comparison pix. The front has a different angle of slope than other ANH buckets giving it a different appearance when seen front-on. 6) You get everything in one stop shopping: Kit includes the one-piece helmet right from the mold. Gray/Green (like sunglasses) Eye lens, black nose screen, your choice of TK or TD sticker set (---------), your choice of "tube" stripes (Black, Dark Blue, Medium Blue or Light Blue -----------) 6 screws and nuts, lower neck seal, rubber brow with adhesive. Only the Aerators are painted black and assembled with silver screen. Some other helmets you have to buy these parts seperately, so it's nice to get it all with one order. 7) Very attractive pricing: $220 plus shipping makes it the least expensive option for upgrading the bucket. You can contact Kevin directly via [email protected]. Whether you're looking to replace your current lid or just want a new one, this is certainly a great option for all troops, whether they be TK, TD, or TX.
