Looking Great Curtis! Man, is it me or are 501st Stormtroopers getting better and better?
-
True enough. It's been on the To-Do list for the detachment staff for some time, but we never got 'round to it. We should create a thread under the Armor and Helmets - General Discussion section. We can label them with a REF prefix, just like we prefix tutorials with HOWTO for easy searching/finding.

Considering that people spend $1000 on a Vader helmet, it may not be out of line. $500 on a top shelf TE2 or TM bucket, $300 for a RomFx, $200 for a Bommar. Yeah, $1000 for a lid is super expensive, but it should would blow away anything else out there. Heck, if Altmanns and SDS can sell Fleet Trooper Helmets for $800, it seems a steal ;-)
-
Yeah, I'll echo that thought. If it weren't for people making armor we'd all be SOL. Very, very few have the time & talent to make molds from scratch and pull their own kit. You may not like someone's business practices, but if it weren't for hobby armor makers what would we be left with? MR? Rubies? I don't think any of us believe the licensed stuff out there is in any way comparable to fan made. And don't even think of bringing up MR clone helmets.

Let me round up $300 and I'll send one to you for integration. ;-) Yeah, the static burst and the sound effects come to mind.
-
Yeah, maybe after being DL his head got too big. Hmm, perhaps I should step back up to the plate ;-) LOL
-
Yeah I know. I'm just wondering why Wyatt is able to easily wear it in his RT but you can't, e.g. what's the difference in builds of the RT buckets.
-
I'm surprised it didn't fit considering it fits into Wyatt's so well. Did you take pictures so he could have compared padding issues? I'll donate either my TE2 or AP for the next set of molds.

Check out the latest SW Insider. What icon do they use for the Empire? Is it a: 1. Star Destroyer 2. Darth Vader 3. Grand Moff Tarkin 4. Cog 5. Death Star Nah! You know who it is! A STORMTROOPER! :tk: Striking fear and respect into one who crosses their path. Go White Armor! ** Alas, the dude's hand plate is dangling and the details aren't 100% right for an ROTJ but overall the armor is pretty tight (see page 18) Anyone we know? Best ROTJ so far methinks if it's a 501st. *** Ooooh! And what helmet do we espy when we open the cover? A see of beautiful ANH Heros. Whoa! Need to trade in one of my stunts. Outstanding issue - I'm sure going to stay up late reading it - dang kids are home already

TE2 vs AP Armor - Any clear winner?
Daetrin replied to makerofthings's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
WRT to HIPS vs ABS...as most but not all know, this debate has played itself out on several forums. I'll agree that it won't stand the abuse that a ABS does (e.g. playing football in it), but for regular trooping my TE2 has been great. I guess it really depends on what you plan to do in armor. -
Yes, it was bad of me to delete all posts including the inoffensive ones. Sorry those got caught in collatoral damage. The reality is that we did more moderating on these boards yesterday than we in the entire history of this forum combined. We try to stay on top of things, but us mods have real jobs that require real attention throughout the day, and we just don't have the time to babysit every thread.

I totally agree for the reasons you cite. Which is why I deleted the pinned post, and put this reply here. -
Heavy handed deleting occurred. Any posts by anyone other than Matt or GINO will be deleted by me. Any personal attacks will be edited. One more chance...
-
Popcorn time: OK so let's be clear. The reality Matt is that you have in fact sold molds only to come back and sell new items using new ones several times. You admit this yourself and many of us have seen this happen, so having this fact brought up shouldn't be cause for dispute. Baiting Gino also is out of line especially considering that you've in the past complained about him baiting you. This needs to stop, and both parties (and their griefers) have been repeatedly warned. It's getting so the moderator team isn't even bothering to notify when threads are deleted. We just delete and move on. It's not a secret (or shouldn't be) that you two have a dispute regarding two transactions: the selling and ownership of one set of molds and the lending and damage of another. We can create a nice thread on these boards where both of you can air out your grievances and lock it for posterity, pinning it even so that every new person can read it. But to bring this stuff up over and over again on every board that deals with armor is getting to be quite tiresome when there does not seem to be any hope of the matter being laid to rest. You guys are both welcome here to sell stuff, lurk, and post. Stay. Enjoy the fellowship of white armor. But the flame wars have to stop. In my personal Nirvana there is room for both of you to exist on the same board, but I'm wondering if it will only ever be a pipe dream.

FWIW, here is the "history" link that I should have used. All sources are referenced. --------- -
TE2 vs AP Armor - Any clear winner?

And FWIW Gino - you're equally free to post For Sale threads here as you are on other boards. Perhaps allowing people to see for themselves may help? I held one of your items back at the Rose Parade and it was sweet. Personally I like the fact that there are differences between the various makers, as not everyone wants the same thing. Variety being the spice of life, no? -
TE2 vs AP Armor - Any clear winner?
Daetrin replied to makerofthings's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
The only thing I removed was a flame. The rest of your post is unmolested. Notice I did not edit or remove your latest post. Information is fine. Making personal attacks is not. And I don't claim to be the font of all knowledge - certainly others on this board are far more knowledgeable than I am. Which is why I asked for corrections to my info on my gaps. And I don't think I'm that biased. Do I sport TE2 armor? Sure, as I like the look and the guy making it. Does that mean I don't like your helmets too? I know for sure I've complimented your work more than once over on MEPD. I'm not sure why I - and others - have to be forced into choosing one over the other. You guys both make some really nice lids. Each is different, and beautiful, in their own way. -
TE2 vs AP Armor - Any clear winner?
Daetrin replied to makerofthings's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
The lore I've seen is that this is correct - it was originally an ROTJ tour suit that was reverse engineered into ANH as much as was possible at the time (guys - correct me if my sleep deprivation is hurting my memory). That said, I've not hear any claims of any other armor being closer in lineage to real suits. -
TE2 vs AP Armor - Any clear winner?
Daetrin replied to makerofthings's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I don't see one as being "better" than the other. It depends on what you want. Here is how I normally see the breakdown: TE2: I want the closest I can get to screen used armor, period. AP: I want the closest I can get to screen used armor, but I want it in ABS. TM: I want the most faithful fan sculpt armor, period. RT: I want the most faithful fan sculpt armor, but I'm on a budget (darn exchange rates). FX: I want the cheapest armor possible that's will allow me to get in the 501st OR I'm over 6'2". Realizing that fan sculpts are designed to be easy to put together, with overlapping seams, symmetrical parts, etc. Having lineage to screen used means that parts are not asymmetrical and more complicated to put together. -
FX armor and AP helmet color differences
Daetrin replied to Jehudah Design's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Or you can do what all clone troopers and everyone with TE/TE2 armor does - paint it!
