  1. And, he's a nice guy to boot, at least from the few times I've met him in person.
  2. The url is--------------- Most of the best clone prop makers can be found there. Java was considered the best but I believe OSCS has taken the title, though Java is still extremely good. Cheaper than MR too, and better customer service.
  3. Doh! It's there in the base standards now - copy/paste error on my part as I cleaned things up. ROTJ overrides this in it's own specific requirement.
  4. For the bucket bags you can actually get a cheap motorcycle helmet bag for about $15, then just take it to any embroidery shop to have whatever you want put on it. Here are some of mine: ----------
  5. Then you can do what you want. One of my favorites was one done up in a holstien cowhide pattern. As a Univ of Wisconsin alum, it made me proud

  7. Excellent work - that MG-34's looking pretty tight Also, you can upgrade your location - Bolivia is now an official 501st Outpost (congrats on that!! )
  8. Excellent necromancy. I actually like this better than the bins I'm using now. Mmmm...can't wait to get one.
  9. FWIW, I'm not trying to pick on guys with stock FX helmets. My first bucket was stock FX for long time until I discovered while converting it to a TD that's not how it should be. Needless to say I ended up trading it for an MG-15 and ordered an AP. It's one thing to be ignorant of how to improve a costume. Most folks when you take the time to explain and show them they can make it look much better/accurate at a very low cost effort will do so. Alas, there are some who just don't care.
  10. That's because it only exists on that seller's Ebay auctions. They are not referenced anywhere else - entirely a fiction of his own creation.
  11. As a variation it is kinda cool though - an insider piece of trivia - for non-canon events. I draw the line when it's tried to be made "official" though.
  12. "But, but...it came with the kit. Along with the black buttons. If it came with the kit it must be correct, right?" Sorry guys - been a hard day and I have to let off some sarcasm...
  13. Actually it's not canon. Mistakes made in the movies like this are not considered canon. They're called f-ups. Yeah Bernard, this topic again (sorry new guys, but this comes up at least once a year, every year). Kinda like the "should pauldrons be allowed" kinda thing. If you really want to go nuts, check out this thread and all the variations people make to their kit. I think most of it is just too much of a good thing, but I have to admit I really dig the samurai sword. http://www.mepd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3712
  14. RT's site can be found here: http://www.rt-mod.com/ For AP he doesn't have a site, but sells directly. You can PM folks for his email addy.
  15. I joined in '87. 11B then 67V. Yeah, we'd have retired by now had we stayed in :-p
  16. And for the record, my TD is an FX + AP helmet. I wore it at the Rose Parade. It's my first set of armor. It takes a beating and on me fits like a glove. Will it break my heart to let it go one day? Oh yeah. Am I going to wait five more years to replace it? Mmmm...probably not. We talk about these things not so that people get a heart attack and rush to toss out perfectly acceptable armor, but I do believe in planning ahead. Knowing that I'll have to replace it down the road allows me time to save up money and look for deals, rather than waiting to the last second and then panicking. Or worse, losing my membership.
  17. Thanks Smitty - that's the best compliment I can receive that this site continues to improve. I turn 40 in May. I think I'm the oldest Elite?
  18. Well there are different involvement levels in this hobby. Part of it is that there are over 1000 TK's out there, most of them FX. The other is that the TK costume standard has languished for so long while other costumes were being improved. Getting respectability back for the TK was one of my prime motivations starting this det. I believe you can't force change down anyone's throats, but you can inspire and encourage them by example. All it took was a few leaders to toss out FX helmets and get ANH ones in my garrison and guess what? Others started doing the same. Now, there are only a couple of hold-outs left, but for how long anyway? New folks coming in see that FX while inexpensive and easy is the lowest quality that's accepted, and many are by-passing the typical "first FX, sell FX, buy ANH" pattern and going straight to ANH armor. As the Legion grows, they start outnumbering the "old timers". Considering that FX is replacing his bucket, it's pretty clear that that FX helmet at least is in it's sunset period all on it's own. In a few years, the armor will be the same way. This is only natural. The backpack that I made myself from scrounged parts was considered good at the time I made it for my MEPD status, but with the availability of accurate parts these days and being able to buy completed packs outright, it's now considered a piece of crap and probably won't be considered acceptable by the end of the year. So...this is why as more accurate / better armor becomes increasingly available and and lower prices, we encourage folks to get the best they can if they're going to be around for awhile.
  19. Yeah. The proof will be in the pix.
  20. Talk to Deckard on these boards for spares.
  21. This is really nothing new. For a while anyone with $$ could just buy a fully completed SDS. Also, it's not much help to anyone wanting to do anything other than an ROTJ.
  22. Terrell also has another extra super cool idea to get everyone motivated. Doh! Did I just spill beans? Scott is gonna be biddee!!
  23. Lots of threads via Search ;-) ----------------- Too many to list. There must be at least 20 threads on this question already.
  24. Well it would really only work if you're doing an ROTJ, for one, which so far has been an unpopular configuration. I guess we'll have to wait and see some in person, though the helmet looks sub par.
